Chapter 3 - Motion Sickness

A week passed quickly, and finally, the long-awaited day arrived. That morning, the sun greeted them warmly, brightening the surroundings. The gentle breeze added to the pleasant atmosphere, making it perfect to start their vacation adventure.

In front of the house, the car had been neatly prepared, ready to take them to their stunning destination. Elio and Emma were busy packing their belongings into the car trunk, ensuring that everything was organized and safe for the journey. From suitcases to baby equipment, everything was neatly arranged to not disrupt the comfort of the trip.

Meanwhile, Petrus, the private driver, meticulously checked the car's condition to ensure everything ran smoothly. He checked the tires, oil, and everything needed to ensure their journey was safe and comfortable.

Meanwhile, Vera, who was pregnant, sat comfortably inside the car, holding Mia, the little baby, tightly in her warm embrace. She looked out the window, attentively watching her husband busy outside the car, assisted by Emma.

"Elio, can I help you?"

Vera asked gently as Elio returned to the car after checking the trunk.

Elio smiled softly, shaking his head.

"No, darling. You shouldn't tire yourself out. It's better for you to take care of Mia in the car. Let Emma and me handle the rest. Your health and our baby's health are the most important."

Vera smiled softly.

"I'm fine, darling. I want to help you pack."

Elio shook his head lightly.

"No, darling. Emma and I will handle everything. Your health and the baby's health are more important. You need to rest well inside the car."

Vera understood with a smile.

"Alright, darling. I will obey your orders."

Elio watched his wife with love.

"I will always take care of you, dear. Just make sure to rest well, okay?"

Finally, all the luggage was neatly packed in the car trunk, and Petrus finished checking the car's condition. Happiness radiated from their faces.

"We'll be on vacation for five days."

Elio said, his smile adorning his radiant face.

Vera smiled gently, her heart filled with happiness.

"Yes, Elio. I can't wait to see the beautiful landscapes shown in the brochures you shared."

Petrus started the car engine, and everyone prepared to get into the car. Before starting the journey, Elio gave instructions to Petrus.

"Petrus, I know you're a very experienced driver. But I want to remind you to drive carefully, especially because Vera is pregnant. Their safety is the most important."

Elio said with a smile but seriousness, his eyes looking sharply at Petrus.

Petrus nodded understandingly.

"I will be careful, Mr. Elio. The safety of Mrs. Vera and her unborn baby is my top priority."

Petrus began to drive the car, and slowly the car departed from their house.

During the journey, a sense of happiness enveloped them. Elio sat next to Petrus, who drove carefully. Vera sat in the seat right behind Elio, while Emma, with affection, cradled the sleeping Mia, sitting in the back seat next to Petrus.

They thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful moment, sharing snacks, and chatting lightly while enjoying the passing scenery along the way.

Halfway through the winding journey, Vera suddenly asked to stop.

"Petrus..!! Petrus..!! Stop, Petrus..!"

Petrus immediately pulled over to the side of the quiet road, slowing down the car and finally stopping.

"What's wrong, Mrs. Vera?"

Petrus asked anxiously as the car stopped, turning his face towards Vera.

Vera took a deep breath, her face pale.

"Forgive me, Petrus. I suddenly feel very nauseous. I need to step out for a moment."

She said weakly, her eyes full of discomfort.

Vera struggled to get out of the car and walked a little away from the road.

She then crouched by the side of the long ditch, facing the row of wilderness across the road, trying to hold back the nausea that hit her.

Elio, sitting in the back seat, immediately got out of the car when he saw Vera in that condition.

"Vera, what's wrong? Are you okay?"

He asked with concern as he approached her.

Vera nodded weakly, still holding back her stomach cramps.

"Yes, Elio, just a little motion sickness."

She replied with a strained voice.

After a few moments, Vera's nausea began to subside slightly. She turned to Elio with a weak face.

"Elio, sorry to bother you. Can you move to the back seat next to Emma and Mia? I want to sit in the front with Petrus. Maybe it can help reduce my nausea if I focus on the front,"

Vera requested hopefully.

Elio nodded understandingly, realizing that Vera's health was the top priority at the moment.

"Of course, Vera. I'll move."

He replied, showing a small smile.

They finally got back into the car, Elio gently embraced Vera and held her hand as he helped her get back into the car.

Vera sat in the front, and Elio then walked to the back seat and took the seat previously occupied by Vera next to Emma and Mia.

After Elio moved, Vera felt relieved. She sat back in the front seat with Petrus, her gaze now focused forward.

With a calmer feeling, they all got back into the car.

"Thank you, Elio. I hope this helps ease my nausea."

Vera said with a weak smile.

"Eh, no problem, Vera. The important thing is that you feel better,"

Elio said sincerely, briefly placing his hand on her shoulder.

Emma added,

"I've never seen Mrs. Vera experience motion sickness before. This may be because Mrs. Vera is pregnant, so she feels nauseous during the journey. Usually, pregnant women are more sensitive to changes in movement and environmental conditions."

Elio, increasingly anxious, asked.

"Is this dangerous for the baby?"

"No, Sir. Nausea is a normal thing experienced by pregnant women, especially those who are still young. I also experienced it when Mia was still in my womb."

Emma replied, trying to reassure Elio.

Elio felt relieved to hear Emma's explanation.

"Thank goodness for that."

He said, looking at Vera with concern.

"Darling Vera, you'd better rest and sleep so that this long journey doesn't feel too hard."

"All right then, I'll just sleep."

Vera said, lowering her car seat and lying down to sleep, her face looking tired but calm because of the comforting explanation from Emma.

With a calmer heart, they continued their journey.
