Time seemed to be at a standstill as Lily looked at Sean, Sean looked at her, and Joan at them both. Out of the three, Lily had a bucket load of questions. Hearing him say he left his phone behind meant he truly was at her apartment. It also meant he spent some time there, so much so, it was enough for him to forget an item that belonged to him.
"Lily?"
Sean's frail voice was barely audible, brooding suspicion in Lily's mind. His face was pale, almost white from shock.
"You're back."
Stating the obvious wasn't helping him or Lily, or anyone else for that matter. It only made the atmosphere more tense, more awkward.
"What are you doing here?"
Lily let her curiosity get the better part of her. She had every right to question him. Paying the same rent as Joan, the apartment was just about hers and it was Joan's.
Sean walked in, quietly closing the door behind him. "I left my phone," he simply said.
