Chapter 29: The Old Man's Secret
As the door to the CEO's office at Apex Antiques closed behind Jin, he felt a sense of accomplishment mixed with curiosity. Becoming a major shareholder in such a prestigious company was another feather in his cap, but his thoughts lingered on the old man he had recognized.
The CEO's congratulatory words echoed in his mind as he stepped out, "Mr. Smith, congratulations once again on becoming a major shareholder. We're excited to see the new heights we'll reach together."
Jin nodded, offering a polite smile before his eyes began scanning the showroom for Edward Lee. There was something about the old man that piqued his interest, something beyond the brief martial arts interaction they'd had. As Jin walked past various antiques, each one whispering tales of history, he finally spotted Edward near a display of ancient weaponry.
Edward Lee turned around just as Jin approached. "Ah, Mr. Smith," Edward said, surprise evident in his eyes. "I didn't expect to see you again so soon. What brings you to the CEO's office?"
Jin smiled. "I'm the new major shareholder of Apex Antiques," he said casually, watching Edward's eyes widen in astonishment.
"A young man with such power," Edward mused. "And someone who knows martial arts as well. You are truly extraordinary."
Jin chuckled. "You're quite the mystery yourself, Mr. Lee. May I ask, what brings you to Apex Antiques today?"
Edward's face grew serious. "I'm searching for a green jade. It is said to have the ability to heal wounds caused by cultivating martial arts."
Jin's interest was piqued. "Are you injured?"
Edward nodded. "Yes, indeed. In my younger days, I practiced incorrectly and damaged my meridians. These meridians are crucial for cultivating the qi of heaven and earth. Without them functioning properly, my progress in martial arts has been severely hindered."
Jin listened intently, the old man's words resonating with him. "Cultivating qi," Jin thought to himself, "sounds like something out of a manga or anime. But then again, I have a system that grants me unimaginable powers. Who am I to question this?"
Edward continued, "Due to the damage, I cough up blood whenever I push my body in training. It's a constant reminder of my past mistakes."
Jin's eyes softened with empathy. He could see the toll it had taken on the old man. "Let's see if we can find this green jade," Jin offered, guiding Edward through the various sections of the antique store.
They scoured the shelves and displays, but to no avail. The green jade was nowhere to be found. Disheartened, they eventually gave up the search. As they were about to leave, Jin turned to Edward.
"Where do you live, Mr. Lee?" Jin asked, curiosity and concern evident in his voice.
"I have a villa," Edward replied, handing Jin a small card. "Here's my address and phone number. Visit me sometime, and we can talk more about martial arts. Perhaps I can teach you a thing or two."
Jin accepted the card gratefully. "Thank you, Mr. Lee. I'll be sure to visit."
As they exited the building, Jin noticed Edward's personal chauffeur and bodyguard waiting by a sleek black car. The old man was clearly well-off and well-protected. Jin waved him goodbye, watching as Edward settled into the car and drove off.
Jin walked over to his Bugatti, the engine roaring to life as he navigated through the city streets. It had gotten dark, and the neon lights of the city reflected off his car's polished surface. Thoughts of Edward Lee and the mysterious green jade filled his mind as he made his way back to his villa.
Back at his villa, Jin sank into his luxurious couch, replaying the day's events in his mind. The encounter with Edward had opened a new chapter of curiosity and intrigue. As he sat there, Jin's mind wandered back to the conversation with Edward. The idea of damaged meridians and the need for a healing jade made him reflect on the fantastical elements that seemed to be creeping into his life. He pondered on whether the system could help in finding or even creating such a jade.
With a sigh, Jin pushed the thoughts aside for the night. He decided he would visit Edward soon and learn more about this mysterious world of martial arts and cultivation.
