Chapter 40 - 40

"What do you mean? Doesn't she have red hair? What else am I supposed to call her if not that? It's not like I know her name—" Leo paused and thought. 'Did I know her name? I don't remember asking her.'

"She said she owed you a debt! How much money is it? Tell me, and I will pay it back to you, just leave her alone!" Argon stepped even closer, his threat growing more serious.

Leo's mind raced. "What is going on here? Is he really the same person who used to send me those letters? I thought he was in love with me or something, but he seems pretty serious about that other girl—what was her name again?" Leo grew increasingly confused by the second.

"Tell me!" Argon asked, his tone growing colder. Leo forgot to take a breath in that moment of intensity, looking away from him, her chest tightening.

"I don't know what you are talking about."

"You definitely do know what I am talking about. Tell me how much money you want in return to never show up in front of her again," Argon hissed.

Leo paused, reflecting. 'Oh! Wait, is she still stuck on the fact that I hit that man on the head, which eventually helped her out of the vehicle? I was just trying to help myself,' she gave herself a thorough recap in her head, remembering that Autumn was stressing the fact that she owed her life to him now and was indebted to him. 'Should I tell him? But—he seems too invested in her. And by the looks of it, he will never give me a job if I explain it to him. Now is the chance I should ask him to give me a job, and in return, I will do as he says. It's not like I want to meet that girl anyway, so it will be a win-win situation.'

"Sure! I want a job at your company, and in return, I will never see her again!" Leo said, her voice full of determination. Her eyes locked onto Argon's, daring him to doubt her.

Argon looked at her blankly for a moment. "You want a job at my company? That's it?" he asked suspiciously, his gaze narrowing.

"Yeah! Sure, why not?!" Leo's voice was bright, almost too bright.

Argon's suspicious gaze didn't leave her, but he eventually held out his hand. "If you say so, then you have this job. And Autumn doesn't owe you anything. All her debts have been paid off, so you will never, in your life, go to meet her again."

"Yes! You have my word!" Leo grabbed his hand energetically, shaking it with a fervor that belied her anxiety. Suddenly, she heard a painful groan.

"Ack!" Argon cried out as a sharp pain shot through his wrist, causing him to grab it with his other hand. 'Did I grab it too hard?' Leo thought, her eyes widening in concern.

"Are you alright? Is everything okay?" She crouched down, holding his wrist gently, her face pale with surprise.'Is he that fragile?'

"Do you want to go to the hospital or something?" She cursed herself silently. 'D*mn it! I ruined it! Who told me to grab it that hard?'

Argon breathed heavily and pushed her hand away. "It's okay, just get away from me!" he snapped, his voice strained with pain. Leo reluctantly stepped back, waiting for him to say something, but he sat there, wincing for too long, making her nervous. She couldn't help but open Kiera's chat and type, "I think I might have caused Argon's wrist to break. What do I do?"

"Mr! I mean boss? I mean–" Not sure how to address him she struggled but then decided to stop and say what she wanted to instead. , "I am very sorry, and I think you need to get to the hospital immediately. So please, follow me!" She tried to help, but Argon gave her an angry look that made her freeze. "Look, just follow me, please," she insisted, but Argon gritted his teeth and breathed heavily.

"Do you know how to drive?" he asked after taking a shaky, painful breath.

Leo paused for a moment. 'I did learn it, but I never practiced. Would it be safe?' She thought and then nodded. "Yes, I do."

"Okay, good! Drive me to the hospital." He said, getting up slowly, the veins on his forehead popping out. "The keys?" she asked.

"In my pocket!" he said, looking at her with a mixture of frustration and urgency.

Leo stared back at him blankly. 'What does he want me to search his pocket or something?' she felt a little weird, but Argon didn't give any other instructions, so she put her hand into the side pocket of his coat. "No, not there, the other one!" he said, irritated.

"Here?" She put her hand in the pocket on the other side. "Here?"

"No, the one on the inside," he said, his irritation growing as the pain intensified.

"Who puts the car key in the inside pocket?" she grumbled, her frustration matching his.

"I do! Do you have a problem with that, Mr Leo?" Argon scolded her, making her s*ck in her breath angrily. She pulled on his suit, making him lean forward, and then she placed her hand in the inside pocket, pulling out the key. "Well, you should stop! Because it can lead to awkward situations like this one!" she said, and then took the key before heading out the door.

As she hurriedly led the way, Argon hobbled behind her, muttering under his breath about the absurdity of the situation. Leo glanced back and added, "Don't worry, I'll get us there in one piece…Probably."
