Biting her lip, Leo slid into the driver's seat. 'Yeah, I can do it! Just don't hit anything and we'll be good to go,' she reassured herself. The weather seemed to conspire against her as rain began to pour, lightning crackling through the sky, adding to her distress. She hated thunderstorms.
"Are you sure you know how to drive?" Argon asked, his skepticism evident as he watched her squint and bite her lip, her expression full of uncertainty.
"Of course, I do. I just have to—" she started, her throat suddenly dry. She started the engine and chuckled nervously. "Haha! There we go, now I just have to—"
The car started to move, but instead of going forward, it lurched backward. In a panic, Leo slammed her foot down on what she thought was the brake but was actually the accelerator. The car shot backward, causing Argon to hit his head against the headrest in front of him.
"Ow! What the hell are you doing?!" Argon shouted, clutching his head.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Leo cried, frantically trying to regain control. She fumbled with the gear shift, finally managing to slam the car into park. The car jerked to a halt, throwing both of them forward.
Breathing heavily, Leo looked over at Argon, who was rubbing his head and glaring at her. "I got it now! Trust me, I will drive you now!" she smiled nervously, showing all her teeth. This time, seemingly better than the last, Leo started to drive slowly, the car barely crawling out of the parking lot. "Wow! This is not that hard," she said happily. "I think I've gotten the hang of it," she muttered to herself.
"Don't mutter around me! I hate it when people do that," he hissed.
Leo's lips curled up as if she was about to say something offensive but then nodded. "Yes, I will make sure to keep that in mind," she added and then drove ahead. Slowly regaining her confidence, she picked up speed but soon realized she had no idea where the hospital was.
"Ahm—" she said, glancing in the rearview mirror.
"What now?" Argon asked, trying to keep his wrist stable while also trying to keep his life because Leo was driving.
"I don't know where the hospital is, and I can't search it on the web because I am driving, so could you—" she smiled again, wanting him to take pity on her, but she failed as Argon gave her a hateful look.
"Just go straight, take the U-turn, then turn left and drive straight for three kilometers," Argon said, his tone uninterested. He went on for a while, and though the instructions were too many, for some reason, Leo remembered all of them and drove perfectly towards the hospital, reaching there in less than twenty minutes. Argon had expected Leo to ask him a few more times where to turn next, but she didn't, which impressed him slightly.
When they reached the hospital, Argon remained seated in the car, his gaze fixed ahead. He didn't move a muscle, waiting for Leo to open the door for him. Leo felt like her jaw was about to drop. She, open a door for someone else? She would have never thought of doing such a thing, but she still did. With a sigh, she got out of the car, walked around to his side, and opened the door.
"You! Stay here until I am back! I will talk to you once I have my hand fixed," he said disdainfully, barely looking at her. Leo hung her head low, feeling a mix of anger and regret.
"Let me go with you. You might need my help," she said, biting her lip. Argon looked her in the eyes, their height difference stark. He was over six feet, and she was around 5'7", making her feel dwarfed in front of him. He got closer, making Leo's back stick to the car.
"You! Stay away from me! You cause me problems when you are close to me!" His words were filled with anger, making Leo turn her head away to avoid looking into those angry eyes. 'What is this man? He is nothing like those letters he wrote me. Was it even him?'
A hint of curiosity bloomed in her chest. 'If only I had met him that day and not gone to see Nico.' She thought. 'What would have happened?' She gulped nervously, and her vision replayed the moment of her death, making her chest tighten. She slipped away from the car, away from Argon.
Argon then stepped away and headed towards the entrance of the hospital, pulling his phone out of his pocket and calling Kant. "Where did you disappear to all of a sudden? Come back immediately. I am at the hospital."
"Huh? Why are you at the hospital?" Kant was surprised.
"I think I overworked my wrist, and now I have sprained it. Get your *ss back here."
"Now? I can't do that!" he said hurriedly.
"What do you mean you can't?"
"Well, you were right about the new workers at the workshop being unskilled. They have almost ruined the new jewelry pieces. Also, I don't think there are any flights back until two days. Have you seen the weather?"
"Then what am I supposed to do? I can't work with a broken wrist, and you didn't even leave a replacement!" Argon got even angrier.
"I said the same thing this morning, but you were too busy sending me away! Now how do you expect me to find you an assistant this quick?"
"I don't know, just get back here!"
Back in the car, Leo sat pondering deeply. "So, does that mean I am already fired for breaking his wrist, or does that mean I got the job? What do I tell Kiera?" She thought deeply when she suddenly got a call from Kiera.
"Hello?" she instantly picked up the call.
"What is it? Are you back at the mansion yet?" Kiera asked.
