[Meghnad's POV]
It's been a few days since our magical night in Ashoka Vatika, and life at the palace returned to its usual rhythm. But the memory of that serene garden and the peaceful moments spent there stayed with me, providing a quiet strength and a reminder of the beauty in the world.
One morning, as I was practicing my breathing exercises under the watchful eye of Uncle Vibhishana, he approached me with a thoughtful expression. "Meghnad, I've noticed your dedication and eagerness to learn. It's commendable, but there is something important I need to share with you."
I paused, looking up at him with curiosity. "What is it, Kakashri?"
He sat down beside me, his gaze steady and serious. "While starting early and building a strong foundation is good, you must also learn to balance your training with rest and enjoyment. Your Aunt Surpanakha and Mother are right. You have your whole life ahead to become the warrior and leader you're destined to be."
I nodded slowly, recalling the words of wisdom from that night in the garden. "I understand, Kakashri. I want to be strong, but I also want to enjoy my childhood."
Uncle Vibhishana smiled, a rare but warm expression on his usually serious face. "That's the spirit. Remember, true strength comes not only from rigorous training but also from a well-rounded life. Now, let's focus on some lighter exercises today, something that will still help you grow but won't be as intense."
We spent the morning engaged in a more relaxed training session, focusing on mindfulness and gentle stretches. It was refreshing, and I felt a sense of balance that I hadn't experienced before.
After the session, as I was walking back to my quarters, I noticed Kavya waiting for me with an excited look on her face. "Yuvraj, there's something special happening in the courtyard. Would you like to see it?"
Intrigued, I followed her to the courtyard, where a group of performers had gathered, preparing for a show. It was a rare treat, and the courtyard was buzzing with anticipation.
Aunt Surpanakha was already there, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Ah, Meghnad! You're just in time. We're about to enjoy a performance by some of the finest artists in the kingdom. It's going to be a delightful afternoon."
We found a comfortable spot, and soon the performers began their show. There were dancers, musicians, and acrobats, each displaying incredible skill and artistry. The courtyard was filled with music, laughter, and applause.
As I watched the performers, I felt a sense of joy and wonder. It was a reminder of the vibrant culture and talent within our kingdom, and it made me appreciate the richness of our heritage.
After the show, Aunt Surpanakha turned to me with a smile. "What did you think, Meghnad?"
"It was amazing," I said, my eyes shining with excitement. "I loved every moment of it."
Kavya nodded in agreement. "It was a wonderful performance. Thank you for inviting us, Lady Surpanakha."
Aunt Surpanakha smiled warmly. "I'm glad you both enjoyed it. It's important to experience and appreciate the arts. They enrich our lives and remind us of the beauty and creativity that exists in the world."
"But do you know what all this celebration is about?" Aunt Surpanakha asked, her smile widening.
I shook my head, intrigued. "No, what is it?"
"Well, Your second mother is coming back."
I blinked in surprise. "Second mother? What do you mean, Aunt?"
Aunt Surpanakha's smile softened, and she placed a hand on my shoulder. "Yes, Meghnad. Your father has another wife, Queen Dhanyamalini. She has been away in her homeland, visiting her family. But now, she is returning to Lanka, and we are preparing a grand celebration to welcome her back."
I felt a mixture of curiosity and excitement. I was confused before because from the time of my birth till now, I haven't heard of her existence. I thought I was in a world of Ramayan in which she didn't exist.
My mind raced with questions, but I tried to mask my confusion with a polite nod. "When will she arrive?"
"In just a few days," Aunt Surpanakha replied. "There will be festivities, and she will be eager to meet you. She has heard much about you, and I am sure she will be delighted to see how much you have grown."
As the days passed, the palace was abuzz with preparations for Queen Dhanyamalini's return. The excitement was palpable, and everyone seemed to be looking forward to the reunion. I found myself eagerly anticipating the moment when I would finally meet her.
On the day of her arrival, the palace was adorned with fresh flowers and colorful banners. The courtyard was filled with people, all gathered to welcome the queen. I stood with my family, feeling a mixture of nerves and excitement.
A fanfare of trumpets announced her arrival, and soon a beautifully decorated palanquin entered the courtyard. As it came to a stop, the curtains were drawn back, and a beautiful woman stepped out of it. She had long flowing pitch-black hair reaching her hips, A blue saree wrapped around her body like a flowing river, and her eyes sparkled like the stars in the night sky. She exuded grace and elegance, her every movement calm and composed.
Father stepped forward, his face lighting up with a smile. "Welcome home, Dhanya. We have missed you dearly."
Queen Dhanyamalini returned his smile and stepped forward to touch his feet. "It is good to be back, Swami (Husband). I have missed you all as well."
After that, she turned her attention to my mother as she also tried to touch her feet but Mother held her hand, preventing her from doing so. "No need for such formalities, Dhanya. We are equals and sisters," she said warmly.
Queen Dhanyamalini smiled gratefully and embraced my mother. "Thank you, Elder sister. It's good to be back."
Finally, her gaze fell upon me. She walked towards me with a gentle smile and extended her hand. "And you must be Meghnad. I've heard so much about you."
I bowed respectfully and then looked up at her. "Welcome back, Queen Dhanyamalini."
A mock pout appeared on her face. "Oh, Meghnad, there's no need for such formality between us. Just call me mother, alright?"
I couldn't help but smile at her playful demeanor. "Alright, mother."
(A/N: From now on: Mandodari = Maa, Dhanyamalini: Mother)
"Awwww~ How cute~" Before I could do anything, I was... again pulled into a warm embrace. Mother held me tightly, her touch gentle yet firm, and I could feel her affection radiating through her hug. "I've missed so many years of your life, Meghnad. I hope to make up for lost time."
I smiled up at her, feeling a deep sense of comfort. "I'm happy you're here now, Mother."
The rest of the day was filled with joy and celebration. Mother mingled with the palace staff and nobles, sharing stories of her time away and listening to updates about life in Lanka. It was clear that her return brought a new sense of warmth and unity to our family.
As evening fell, I found myself sitting with both Maa and Mother in the garden, the scent of blooming flowers surrounding us. Mother looked at me with curiosity. "Meghnad, tell me about your training and studies. What have you been learning?"
I felt a surge of pride as I began to recount my lessons with Uncle Vibhishana, my training sessions, and the wisdom imparted by my mentors. "I've been learning a lot, Mother. Kakashri Vibhishana teaches me about strategy and governance. But I have to wait four more years, when I turn seven years old then I could start my combat training officially," I explained, a hint of eagerness in my voice. "For now, I'm focusing on my breathing exercises, mental discipline, and understanding the basics."
"That's brilliant, Meghnad," Mother said, her eyes shining with pride. "It sounds like you're on the right path to becoming a strong and wise leader. But remember, it's important also to enjoy the journey and find balance in your life."
Maa nodded in agreement. "Your mother is right. You're still young, and there's plenty of time to grow and learn. Enjoy your childhood while you can."
I smiled at both of them, feeling a deep sense of warmth and gratitude for their support and guidance. "I will, Maa, Mother. I promise."
We spent the rest of the evening talking and laughing, sharing stories, and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the garden. It was a moment of pure happiness and contentment, one that I would cherish for a long time.
"Your Majesties, Yuvraj. Lunch is ready," a servant announced, bowing respectfully.
Maa and Mother rose gracefully, and I followed them towards the dining hall. The palace was alive with the sounds of celebration, laughter echoing through the corridors, and the aroma of delicious food wafting through the air.
As we entered the grand dining hall, I marveled at the elaborate spread laid out before us. The table was adorned with a variety of dishes, each more mouth-watering than the last. Fresh fruits, fragrant rice, rich curries, and delectable sweets awaited us.
We took our seats, and Father raised a toast to celebrate Mother's return. "To Dhanyamalini, whose presence brings joy and unity to our family."
"To Dhanyamalini," everyone echoed, raising their cups.
Mother smiled warmly, her eyes shimmering with happiness. "Thank you, everyone. It feels wonderful to be back among my family."
As we began to eat, I listened to the lively conversations around me. Father and Uncle Vibhishana discussed matters of the kingdom, while Maa and Mother shared stories of their past. Aunt Surpanakha added her witty remarks, making everyone laugh.
Kavya, who stood quietly by my side, leaned in to whisper, "Are you enjoying the feast, Yuvraj?"
I nodded enthusiastically, my plate filled with a little bit of everything. "Yes, Kavya. It's all so delicious."
"Try this, I personally prepared it for you," She said with a slight blush on her face.
Kavya handed me a small bowl of sweet kheer, her eyes filled with anticipation. I took a bite and immediately savored the creamy, sweet flavor. "It's amazing, Kavya! Thank you."
She smiled brightly, pleased with my reaction. "I'm glad you like it, Yuvraj."
The celebration continued late into the evening, with music and dance filling the halls. I spent time with my family, feeling the bond between us grow stronger with each passing moment. The joy and unity brought about by Mother's return made the palace feel warmer, more like a true home.
