Since last night, Quen's mind was on Angela. He was worried about her after what she said. He knew that she will have a bad headache that's why he texted her to come afternoon so she can take a good rest but this wasn't enough to decrease his worries so he busied himself with work to avoid too much thinking. He took his coffee mug but found nothing inside, realizing he had finished it all. He was about to call Betty in for another coffee when he noticed a slow opening of the door and Angela's head peeking in as he already guessed.
" Why are you entering like a thief?" He asked, wearing his usual serious face, but deep inside, he was amused and wanted so bad to laugh at Angela's facial expressions when she heard his voice.
" Umm I_ I thought no one was inside," she stuttered." Beside this is my office too," she added but immediately regretted it. Silly Who asked if it was her office anyway.
" But that's doesn't mean you enter like a thief." That's very true. She thought, disappointed by her foolish answer. Quen rose from his chair and walked towards her. His gaze was fixed on only, and without knowing, she attempted to explain herself.
" No_ it's_ it's just.." she stuttered, losing a word to say, but what Quen said afterwards completely caught him off guards.
" Are you feeling fine?" That wasn't expected, mostly not from Quen. She stood like a statue with opened mouth. This sure wasn't happening. She thought and shook her head vigorously, hoping to find that it was her own imagination, but to her disappointment, Quen's voice, which was now confused, was still on her. So this was real. She was brought to the real world by Quen's voice calling her name.
" What ?" She blunted out the first word which came on her mind.
" Don't you have ears, I'm asking you if you are fine now," he innocently answered with a frown.
I think that was supposed to be my question. She wanted to say but to keep the thought to herself.
" Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," she answered, putting on a smile of assurance.
" Ok. That's great then, " he said, tucking his hands in his suit pant pockets." Get you document and come to the meeting room, five minutes left." He said before walking to the door.
" Ok," she mumbled to herself.
Quen opened the door and poised to leave but suddenly halted and turned to her.
" Angela," he called, which made Angela turn too before giving him a little loud "yes."
He stared at her contemplating whether to say it or not but decided to go with no. " Never mind," he said and left, closing the door behind him. He had wanted to ask her about her past but stopped remembering what it caused last night. Besides, they weren't even friends yet.
"Why didn't he hear anything about last night?" She said, confused." He is so weird to day. Good for me, though. " she smiled , picked up her documents, and headed outside.
The meeting took about two hours. They had to finalize tomorrow's event with the marketing team and department of production. After the meeting, Quen went to have talked with the chairman, and Angela went directly to their office. She found Betty waiting for her in the office.
"I'm free now, and I bet you are too. Would you please tell me what happened cause I'm really dying to know? " she pleaded as she led Angela to the couch, holding her arm.
Angela mumbled, and I knew you won't let it slide and gave in to her pleas.
" Just don't laugh, okay?" She asked before letting out a sigh as Betty nodded okay.
" I really fucked up last night... Blah blah " she told her what Alan and Brena said. Though Betty had promised her no to laugh, she found herself doing so. So hard that even tears welled in her eyes because of Laughing.
" I'm sorry Angela but you are silly. I can't help it" she said holding her stomach which was aching from laughing.
" Hey, it's not funny" Angela frowned. She knew that it was stupid and silly of her but she was drunk so they didn't need to laugh or tease her.
" Okay ok, what will you do then?" Betty asked knowing well that the Quen she knew was going to use it against her whenever he got a chance but that's where they were all wrong. The Quen they knew was different when it comes to Angela.
" I don't know. I'm confused whether say sorry or thanks". She had spent the afternoon thinking on what to do even in the meeting whenever her eyes landed on Quen, she couldn't help felling guilty and embarassament welling up in her.
" Well, I can help" Betty said which lighted up Angela's sunken expression and made her smile in excitement.
" Really! that's so kind of you". Betty grinned, proud that she will be able to help. She pitied Angela. She was a young and cheerful not forgetting innocent, she didn't deserve Quen's bullies and coldness so she decided to help her the only way she could think of at the moment. She beckoned Angela to come closer and whispered the plan to her.
" Do you think it will work?" Angela asked not sure if it will really since it didn't really sound like Quen Okefe.
" It works. It always did, just trust me" Betty assured her with a smile.
" Okay. Then go for it" Angela said before she rose up, said a quick thanks and hurried out of the office, praying for it to work. Not only for being grateful but also to shut Quen teasing mouth up.
