Xavier Reece had been taking peeps at Muylin since she arrived. The was an indescribable feeling he got from looking at her. He couldn't tell what it was but it put his heart into unrest. The longer he stared, the more anxious he got. Even with the distance that separated them he could still tell that woman was perilous. He wanted to know what it was about her that petrified him so much.
"Ms Saw, it is a great honour to meet you," he greeted as he reached her, startled by his own bravery.
No one else in the room but Bryce and Devon had the balls to approach her. Muylin turned her head to her father's voice, not that he knew.
"Mr Reece, it's honour to meet you as well," Muylin replied slowly in a low voice.
Xavier stood still with a rigidly shocked face. He did not expect the famous woman to know his name. it took a few more seconds of stunned silence before the gears in his head began rotating again.
"You-you know who I am, Ms Saw?" Xavier stuttered.
"Of course. Everyone knows the righteous Xavier Reece, head government official of Star City. You are the reason this city is in such great order," Muylin smoothly covered.
Xavier released a breath of relief he didn't even know he was holding. He didn't know why he felt such gripping fear clutch his heart the moment she said his name.
"Well, I'm just doing my job. I'm rather surprised to see that Ms Saw knows my lowly self," he lightly responded.
There was a palpable tension around the woman in front of him, a tension that made the hairs on the back of his neck stand erect. The energy she gave was short of nothing less than terrifying. He couldn't wrap his head around why she made him feel like that. Sure, she was a power-house of a human-being, but surely what he felt was abnormal. And yet, there was familiarity in the air around her. It vaguely reminded him of someone; her skin colour, hair, figure. He was probably seeing things, but the slight resemblance still struck him to the core. The Ms Saw in front of him almost reminded him of his first wife, before he sent her to-
"Mr Reece?" a feminine and elegant voice brought him back to reality.
Xavier realised he was staring while lost in his thoughts. He brought caramel hand up to his neck as he sheepishly rubbed it.
"I sincerely apologize, Ms Saw. Allow me to leave you to enjoy your night. And please, if ever you are in need of my assistance, simply call me," he said with a tight smile before nodding.
Muylin gave a curt nod that released Xavier. Muylin felt her heart ache as she watched her father's stalking figure walk away from her. To think even after his rejection, she still loved him. She hated herself for not being to completely cover the remnants of her broken heart with resentment for him, for Bryce. Yes, that's right. She still loved Bryce too, and the number of nights she'd lie awake at night feeling appalled by herself for still wanting him were countless. She couldn't just hate them, she tried but she failed, because good memories always had a way of seeping into her angered mind and cushioning her loathe. Because one doesn't just stop loving somebody they adored wholeheartedly. She exhaled a disheartened sigh and focussed her attention on Mara and Kara. Before she could depress herself with more heartache Sam placed a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"Give yourself a break, milady. You don't have to think about them," he softly said.
"I know," she breathed before looking away.
Xavier returned to his wife's side under the watchful gazes of guests-turned-audience. Despite one of the leaders having spoken to Muylin, still no one else dared to approach her. Mara had intently watched her husband's interaction with Muylin and inched her lips up to an inconspicuous smirk. Her wicked mind began working, churning, plotting.
