Chapter 10 - Power

Every employee in the building was shocked to their core.

Their new boss was the most ruthless businesswoman in the country, and possibly the world! They didn't see this coming. They hung onto her every word in the video as if it were her last. The moment they saw the glasses and scarf the building was filled with gasps. It wasn't until Muylin introduced herself that everyone felt their breathes hitch. They couldn't believe it as they turned to each other in great tremor, their hearts quaking in fear. No one dared to offend her, but now they had to work for her! Tangible distress spread throughout the building as every mind below the top floor grimly pondered Muylin's words. They couldn't wrap their minds around the fact. Such a powerful woman was in charge of them, the disbelief transformed the building into a chaotic zone, everyone asking each other questions.

Their new boss was known as a cruel businesswoman throughout the globe, and their former boss was serial rapist. The thought of their former boss made people extremely appalled. They weren't sure if it was more because of his actions, or because they had worked tirelessly for a such a repulsive man. But they then considered the mentioned benefits of Amanda Saw being their boss. Their professional dignity would be protected by her, meaning they had the great Corporate Queen backing them up, they would be receiving more rewards since Mr Gray was greedy man, and she would treat them fairly. They wondered if she was simply making empty promises as Mr Gray first had.

Rita Fernandez sat stupefied in her office as the head of the Finance Department. Her first thought was to call Bryce and tell him as she grabbed her phone and dialled his number. On the third ring he answered, asking Rita what she wanted. She parted her lips to speak when Muylin's final threat conveniently echoed in her mind. They couldn't tell anybody; she would find out and there would be grave consequences to bear. Rita's words got caught as she fought with herself in complete turmoil.

"Rita? What is it? I don't have all day," Bryce impatiently asked, snapping her back to reality.

Rita, having made up her mind, unclogged her throat to tell when her intercom dinged.

"Miss Fernandez, your presence is required in the CEO's office immediately," a melodious voice sounded.

"We'll talk later," she said to Bryce before hanging up.

She remained stunned for another long moment before summing up the courage to stand from her seat. She walked out, maintaining a calm exterior as she headed to the elevator. She entered, and as soon as the elevator doors closed, she took multiple deep breathes to calm her racing heart. She was now working for Amanda Saw, a terrifying force to be reckoned with. The panic spread to her body as her hands trembled when the elevator doors opened. She still couldn't grasp, like everyone else, that Amanda Saw had simply *taken* Mr Gray's business from him. He was that powerless to stop her, and everything he had built was no longer even his. It belonged to a woman who avenged rape victims.

Rita walked fast, almost running to reach Muylin's office. She saw a man standing outside a golden door with a naked stare latched onto her as she approached. She could already tell he was the assistant.

"Miss Fernandez, I am Sam Connor, CEO Saw's assistant. She awaits you inside," Sam greeted before opening the door to Muylin's office.

Rita slowly and cautiously stepped into the office. Her eyes took in the changed interior design, the once beige walls were instead grey with white and black patterns. The rectangular desk she was used to had been replaced by a semi-circular glass table that was littered with paper. Rita's body instinctively tensed in response to the stuffy atmosphere, congested by the exuded authority of the woman before her. Rita kept her head low, unable to bravely raise it as the powerful aura pushed it down. There was a heavy silence in the room, Rita not having the gull to open her mouth. Muylin quietly stared at her former friend, bitterness flowed into her heart as countless memories surged into her mind. She recalled every moment Rita made a move on Cameron. She was so blind she couldn't even see that her friend had an eye out for her boyfriend. Rita often dropped flirty hints, tried to get close to Bryce, and always hugged him longer than any of her other friends. She honestly should've known; the signs were all right there.
