Rita could almost hear her heart thumping in her chest, her breath coming out in barely controlled, shallow wisps.
"Miss Fernandez, thank you for stepping in," Muylin began.
Her voice snapped Rita out of her frightened revie as she flinched a bit. Unable to find her voice, Rita offered a curtesy instead.
"I have read your file. You are quite capable in your position, however that's not why you're here. Since you know I want no one finding out about me taking over this company, I want you to keep business out of your relationship with Mr Cameron. You are not to utter a single word about this to him or else I will discipline you. And not even your boyfriend will be able to save you. Understood?" Muylin frostily said, spitting out the word 'boyfriend'.
The ice in her voice turned Rita's soul cold with fear. It finally sunk into her mind that moment. That woman had easily taken a billionaire's company away from him within mere days. And not just any billionaire, but one who was almost close to becoming a king of Star City in business. That's how strong Amanda Saw was. If Rita went against someone like her, not even Bryce, with all his money and power, would be able to help her. Rita swallowed thickly as she quickly nodded her head. She promised in her heart she would say not a word to Bryce.
"Good. I expect excellence from you and your team. Dismissed," Muylin maintained her chilly tone.
Rita curtseyed and spun to leave, fleeing from the office like she was under attack. Once outside, she released a deep breath she didn't even know she was holding. She speed-walked to the elevator ride, collapsing against a corner once the doors shut as her legs liquified beneath her. Once she reached her seat, she weakly plopped down on it. Her new boss's threat was very scary and very real, she wouldn't dare cross the woman who held the world in her palm.
Sam entered moments after Rita left with a lazy smirk and a shake of his head.
"Don't you think you scared her too much, milady?" he asked in amusement.
Muylin took off her scarf and glasses as a goofy smile played on her lip. She had to admit that watching Rita so scared satisfied her soul more than she anticipated.
"Not my fault she can't handle the heat," Muylin shrugged.
Sam chortled as he took a seat in front of her.
"Bryce's assistant called. They would like to schedule lunch for one. I've already given the affirmative," he informed.
Muylin nodded in thought as she swivelled in her chair. She was very curious to see what offers they'd be giving her in exchange for her co-operation. She hoped to receive a worthy gift. She looked at the time, it read 09:10, ample time to transform her newest branch company. By the end of the day the name of the building would be changed, and everyone would know that she was the new boss. Muylin looked at the open file on her desk and felt a sinister grin stretch across her round lips, coated in red lipstick. Her nearly pitch-black orbs flickered up to Sam who had a matching wicked smile. How lucky she was to had crossed paths with Mr Gray indeed.
13:00 hit just as Muylin strolled into the VIP room with Sam, her lawyer and two bodyguards behind them. The venue was an expensive restaurant owned by Bryce's family. Bryce and Devon anxiously looked to the door as it opened, and there she was with impeccable timing, face completely covered. They had a feeling the actual lunch would exclude her.
"Gentlemen," Muylin coolly greeted as she sat down in the chair Sam pulled out for her.
"Ms Saw, thank you for coming. Would you like anything? A drink perhaps?" Bryce kindly offered.
"I'm good, thank you. I don't have much time to waste, so let us proceed." Muylin calmly snapped.
Her words took everyone, but her men, in the room aback. There she was in the midst of two giants and she was wasting her time as if they even weren't worth a glance. Muylin felt sourness seep into her heart as she looked at the two men sharing a table with her. She once looked up to Devon, a business role model who even gave her management advice. They were never friends, or even considered acquaintances since they'd spoken only once. He told her that he didn't believe she'd surpass him because she was a woman, but he still thought she would make a great businesswoman. Talk about a misogynistic narcissist. What would he think if he found out the that woman he said such words to had become far stronger than him? What they had coming to them, they deserved it completely.
