Chereads / Great Adventure (English version) / Chapter 11 - The other traveler

Chapter 11 - The other traveler

Our path was littered with the corpses of the guards and knights that escorted me, most of them cut in half, Wallet was screaming in pain from his severed arm, I could not contain myself, I vomited at the ominous landscape, again the thoughts that flooded me were when I saw Bert die, came back to me.

I don't know at what point Willfest approached me, but he grabbed me by the shirt, causing me to stain his arm with vomit. He looked at me with disgust, then punched me in the face, the blow brought me back to me, but due to the vomit left in my throat, I coughed.

-What was that thing, I'm pretty sure it was coming for you.

I had a hard time looking him in the face, I'm sure he didn't know that woman, but because of the way things happened, they think I'm guilty, she talked to me, and for some reason she left me alive, even I would blame someone else if I had gone through the same situation.

-I have no idea, I really don't know who she was... wait a minute.

-You're lying

Lay approached us, drew his sword, and attacked his father.

-Sister, have you lost your mind?

Roy tried to intervene, but he didn't get there in time, Sir Willfest closed his eyes accepting his fate, the attack was aimed at him or so I thought at first, with a simple thrust, she killed a crow that flew over us without us noticing, she sheathed her sword, grabbed her father's arm that was holding me, and pulled it out.

She came up to me and with one arm, she hugged me.

-Thank you... Father Gran saved me from the attack of that....

She looked at me, it was clear that he also managed to see her.

-I don't really believe that he has anything to do with what happened, or at least he is not aware of it.

-Lay... Thanks to you too.

I was quite surprised, for some reason she liked me, I liked her too, but we have only known each other for a few hours, and she protected me from her own father, that made me feel some warmth, which I thought I would not feel at this time.

-Sir Willfest, I am not the only suspect here, I also took notice of what was going on in the battle, and I am sure she knew you very well, she even knew who you were, I don't just mean the name, but your relationship with King Edward, and your expertise in combat.

-Don't you dare think what I think you're thinking, you've already made my head hurt, but the point is that many know who my Father is... I mean Captain Sir Willfest, so I don't think that makes him a suspect.

-No, the brat is right, if I blame him with the same evidence that he holds against me it's normal that I'm suspicious in his eyes, but I assure you that in all my life in the hell of war, I've never seen anything like that, she could have killed me whenever she wanted, she was playing with me.

-So Sir Willfest can believe that I don't know her?

-For now at least I'll believe you, besides I have you to thank for saving my bastard.

For some reason it annoyed me that he called Lay a bastard.

-If you want to thank me, at least call your daughter with the respect she deserves.

Poart's family was surprised, but without a doubt the most surprised was Willfest, who even cracked a smile, something I thought he was incapable of doing in the short time I've known him.

-They didn't teach you not to meddle in other people's family problems... but you're right, let me rectify my words, I thank you for saving my eldest daughter.

There was no expression from Lay.

-Now how am I supposed to explain that out of the 15 men 8 are dead and one seriously wounded.

One of the guards approached us.

-Captain, I don't think Wallet will make it through the night, he's lost too much blood.

-Bring me a torch.

Willfest withdrew.

Lay started to look over the corpses, he went to one of the corpses with only the lower part of his body, and for some strange reason he took off his trousers.

-Here, now get changed.

I was surprised by her request, but it didn't last long, she pointed to my crotch, I don't know when it happened, but I had peed my trousers, maybe it was when I thought I was going to lose my life at the hands of that woman.

-Go there, Roy, keep an eye out for me.

She pointed to a bush at the edge of the road.

-When did I start taking orders from you, Lay?

-The moment you were born, don't argue.

She probably had a little sneer on her face, which annoyed Roy.

-I said, "Go change your trousers, quick.

The trousers that Lay handed me were a bit stained with blood, which made me debate whether to wear them or not, before the blood didn't bother me, but since Bert made me extremely tense, I stopped thinking and changed them, which cost me a bit because my hands were tied.

Don't get attached to Roy or Lay, you know what happened when you did it, Fress betrayed you, he sold you out, maybe Finley too, besides I should plan what I'm going to do when I meet Lord Irish and avoid losing my head... how I need you Hero...

I walked towards Lay as I went on with my thoughts.

I've always dreamed of travelling back in time, I've studied it out of fascination, but I was so foolish to think that things would be just exciting, they have no value for life, they kill without a trembling hand, I was deluded.

Wallet cried out in a heart-rending manner, the scene was strong for me, Wallet was propped up in what was left of my mobile cell, a stick was put in his mouth, and Willfest was cauterising the wound with his red-hot sword.

-Wallet, if you endure this, you will live, you will be better treated when you get to Dublin," said Sir Wilfest in a flippant manner.

Wallet at one point fainted from the pain.

-Sir Arthur charged Wallet for the remainder of the journey.

-As you wish, Sir Wilfest.

Arthur was a very droopy knight, in the battle with the woman he was the only one who dodged her attack, but he couldn't be anything either, he had brown hair, it was totally unruly, he was probably handsome at one time, but an ugly scar that started from the corner of his mouth to his eyebrow, ruined his beauty so to speak.

He was probably in his late twenties or thereabouts, he was tall and stocky, his eyes were blue, he was the very representation of stoicism.

You've got that crazy look on your face again.

-Tell me how can you guys put up with all this Lay?

-Because if you don't this world will consume you, it's best not to think about it like I told you.

I stared at her.

-I get the impression that you don't believe your own words.

-Why do you say that?

-Your dark circles under your eyes tell me that you have cried in silence much more than I have cried in this short time.

-You have no idea what you're talking about.

-You're right, I have no idea what I'm talking about, seeing all this massacre affects me too much.

-Boy, for your sake you'd better get used to it quickly, otherwise you'll die soon or worse, you'll fall into madness, this life doesn't forgive the weak.

-I will try, but I make no promises.

-I'll try, but I won't promise anything.

Willfest approached Roy and took out my knife, with it he cut the rope that kept my hands tied.

-Due to the death of my men, we are prey to any bandit or Irish attack, I need all the help I can get, I will give you your knife until we get to Dublin, if you try to escape, I will end your life myself, do you agree to the deal?

-Yes, besides I would have nowhere else to go.

-One more thing, improve your lie about losing your memories, or Lord Irish will put your head on a pike.

It was already clear that there was no point in continuing to lie in front of them, in fact my lie was so badly acted out that even I forgot to go through with it.

-I will do so.

-Do you know how to ride a horse, Gran?

-No, I've never been on one.

-Lay, you take the boy on your horse. -You take the boy on your horse.

-All right.

-Take your knife, I don't want to see it without its sheath unless it's strictly necessary, now I'll see how the fuck I explain that I lost 6 lairs and 2 horses to Lord Irish.

Abruptly I put my knife in my hands, this time I just nodded.

A few weeks earlier

-Where am I?

The rain began to soak me, I looked around me, but I could see almost nothing, I could only see that damn forest that I had left behind.

In the distance I could see some lights moving in my direction, soon a carriage stopped in front of me, the man driving the carriage was dressed elegantly, but somehow strange.

The carriage door opened, there was a young man dressed in outlandish, but elegant clothes just like the waiter who was driving the carriage.

I didn't like the look in her eyes, it was as if she was undressing me.

-Get in, you're going to get soaked.

I instinctively told her.

-No thanks, I'll soon get to where I need to be.

When I finished speaking, I realized that both the man who spoke to me and I spoke Old Irish.

Why do we speak in this language?

-Miss, there is nothing for miles, and I would hate to waste such an exotic beauty, I'm afraid I must insist.

The young man had a malicious smile, without hesitation I drew my knife, to protect myself, but I made a grave mistake, at no time did I realise at what moment the waiter had got out of the carriage, what happened next was that I was given a hard blow on my never, before I fainted the only thing I felt was how someone lifted my body as I watched the rain fall.

-Great...
