Chapter 1 - Prologue

The kingdom of Draesrinad lay peacefully under a starlit sky, its castle towers gleaming in the moonlight. The air was filled with the soft murmur of crickets and the occasional hoot of an owl, painting a serene picture of a kingdom at rest. Princess Aurora sat by her window within the castle walls, gazing out at the night sky. Her brunette wavy hair cascaded over her shoulders, and her brown eyes reflected the light of the stars. She felt a strange unease tonight, a sensation she couldn't quite place.

"Are you alright, Your Highness?" asked her handmaiden, Seraphine, noticing the princess's troubled expression.

Aurora turned to her with a faint smile. "I'm fine, Seraphine. Just a little restless, I suppose."

Seraphine nodded, though her eyes remained worried. "Perhaps some sleep will help."

Aurora nodded, though she knew sleep would elude her tonight. As Seraphine left the room, Aurora's gaze was drawn back to the window. A chill ran down her spine as she noticed a strange red tint to the moon. The legends spoke of a blood-red moon as a harbinger of great change, or terrible calamity.

"Surely it's just a myth," Aurora whispered to herself, trying to dispel her fears.
