Chapter 11 - The King II

Xavier navigated the shadows with ease, his journey back to the unknown kingdom swift and silent. The whispers of the wind and the rustling of leaves were his only companions as he moved through the darkened forest.

As he approached the obsidian castle, the towering spires loomed like sentinels against the night sky. The blood-red moon had faded, but its ominous glow lingered in the air, a reminder of the power that lay within these walls. Xavier slipped through the gates, his presence barely a whisper, and made his way to the throne room where the King of Darkness awaited.

The chamber was dimly lit, shadows dancing along the walls as if they had a life of their own. The king sat upon his throne, his crimson eyes gleaming with a mix of curiosity and anticipation. He regarded Xavier with a piercing gaze as the shadow assassin knelt before him.

"Rise, Xavier," the king commanded, his voice echoing through the hall. "What news do you bring from the world of light?"

Xavier stood, his posture respectful yet confident. "My lord, I have observed a kingdom to the north preparing for a grand festival. The festivities are in honor of their annual village celebration, but it appears there is more to it. The kingdom's morale is high, and their defenses seem relaxed."

The king's eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "And what of their leaders? Did you glean any useful information about their strategies or alliances?"

"Indeed, my lord," Xavier replied. "The princess of the kingdom, a figure of great influence and beauty, seems to be at the heart of the celebration. She moves among her people with grace and confidence, inspiring loyalty and admiration. I suspect she holds significant sway over the kingdom's decisions."

The king leaned back on his throne, a contemplative expression crossing his face. "A princess, you say? "

Xavier nodded. "Precisely, my lord. While the kingdom revels, they may not be fully prepared for an unexpected threat. Their focus on celebration could be an opportunity for us."

The king's lips curled into a cold, calculating smile. "You have done well, Xavier. Your observations are invaluable. We shall use this knowledge to our advantage."

Xavier bowed his head. "Thank you, my lord. I am at your service."

The king's eyes gleamed with a sinister light. "Prepare yourself, Xavier. The world of light believes itself safe, but they shall soon learn the true power of darkness."

As Xavier left the throne room, the weight of his mission settled heavily upon his shoulders. He had seen a glimpse of a world filled with joy and light, a stark contrast to the shadows that had become his home. Yet, his loyalty to the King of Darkness remained unwavering. The path ahead was clear, and he would walk it without hesitation.

In the depths of the castle, the king's thoughts churned. The princess of the northern kingdom had unwittingly become a focal point in his plans. As he plotted his next move, the lines between light and darkness blurred, setting the stage for a conflict that would shake the very foundations of both realms.

He chuckled. " I miss smelling blood in my hands, maybe I should go hunt some human head?"

The King of Darkness stood before the mirror of shadows, a relic of ancient magic that connected his realm to the world of light. The room was silent, the air thick with anticipation. He had sent Xavier to gather information, but now it was time for him to see the light world for himself.

With a wave of his hand, the mirror's surface rippled like water, revealing the shimmering landscape of the kingdom Xavier had spoken of. The king's crimson eyes narrowed, determination burning within them. He would venture into the light world alone, unseen and unknown, to gather his own insights and confirm the reports of his shadow assassin.

Beneath the cloak, glimpses of his attire can be seen – sturdy, well-worn boots and the hem of dark trousers The cloak's fabric rustles softly with his steps, a whispering sound that adds to his enigmatic presence., the king stepped through the portal, feeling the strange sensation of the air magic brushing against his skin. As he emerged on the other side, he found himself on the outskirts of the vibrant kingdom. It was filled with the sounds of laughter and music, the scents of blooming flowers, and delicious food wafting through the breeze.

He moved with the grace and stealth of a shadow, his presence masked by the dark magic that cloaked him. No one noticed the dark figure slipping through the streets, blending with the midnight shadows. He observed the lively festivities, the joyous faces of villagers and nobles alike, their carefree demeanor starkly contrasting with the heavy atmosphere of his own realm.

As he made his way toward the heart of the celebration, the king's gaze fell upon the young princess. She stood at the center of the street, her azure gown shimmering in the torchlight. Her hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall of light, and her laughter rang out, pure and musical. She greeted her people with genuine warmth, her presence commanding respect and admiration.

The king felt a something unfamiliar—a mix of envy and longing. He pushed the emotions aside, focusing on his mission. He needed to understand the strength of this kingdom, the power that lay within its leaders, and the potential vulnerabilities that could be exploited.
