Chapter 27 - Fire Control

An upgradable ability undoubtedly holds greater potential. The higher the level, the stronger the power will be. However, the conditions for upgrading were unclear to Sylas. To upgrade an ability, it needs to absorb energy. In the system interface, there was an energy bar next to the Fire Control skill. Once the energy bar is filled, the skill can be upgraded.

But Sylas had no idea how to acquire the necessary energy to fill this bar. Was it by killing zombies? Sylas had a suspicion. To confirm whether killing zombies could increase the skill level, he would need to test it.

Fire Control was not a simple ability. Sylas opened his hand, and a flame emerged from his palm, dancing up and down above it. With his will, the flame quickly contracted into a large fireball. This fireball not only emitted high heat but also had the potential to explode.

Sylas then slowly dissipated the fireball. Testing its explosive power here wasn't feasible. Although the potential of the Fire Control ability was high, Sylas was currently at level one, which meant his capabilities were limited. For now, the most proficient use of this ability was casting fireballs. The name "fireball" sounded ordinary, but its power was presumably impressive. The actual effect still needed to be tested to be fully understood.

Seeing the fireball in Sylas's hand, Hayden was utterly stunned.

"How did you do that?" Hayden asked in shock.

"I'll explain later. For now, let's get you home. We'll talk more once we're back," Sylas said.

"Oh, okay. But how are we going to leave?" Hayden glanced at the door, frustrated. The entrance was surrounded by zombies, making it impossible for them to leave.

"Stay here. I'll go out and lure the zombies away, then come back to get you," Sylas said.

Without waiting for Hayden to respond, Sylas went upstairs and exited through a window. Soon, gunshots rang out, drawing the zombies away from the entrance. Hayden watched in amazement. She hadn't expected Sylas to use such a method to lure the zombies away.

Sylas's abilities left her both surprised and relieved. Since she had agreed to be Sylas's slave, the stronger he was, the better her chances of survival.

Half an hour later, Sylas returned and opened the door. The large number of zombies had required significant effort to draw away, hence the delay.

"You're back," Hayden said, breathing a sigh of relief.

"Sorry about that. I forgot to leave you some food earlier. You must be starving," Sylas said apologetically.

Hayden looked at Sylas in surprise. His hands were empty, and he didn't seem to have any food. Suddenly, a plate filled with pastries appeared in Sylas's hand. Seeing this unexpected food left Hayden utterly stunned.

"How did you do that?" Hayden stammered.

"Ever heard of storage space? It's one of my abilities," Sylas explained with a smile, handing Hayden some chopsticks and urging her to eat. He had not only provided food but also prepared a drink for her.

Hayden, famished, wasted no time and started eating voraciously. As she ate, tears streamed down her face.

"Why are you crying? Is the food not good?" Sylas asked in surprise.

Hayden wiped away her tears, laughing and crying at the same time. "It's not that. It's delicious. I never thought I'd have the chance to eat pastries again. This makes me so happy."

"That's nothing. Tonight, we'll have a feast. How about some grilled lamb chops?" Sylas suggested with a grin.

"Yes, I'd love that," Hayden said eagerly, her eyes lighting up at the thought of more food. She had always been a foodie but had restrained herself to maintain her figure. Now, in these dire times, who cared about maintaining a figure? Eating as much as possible was the priority.

Soon, Hayden was full.

"Are you full?" Sylas asked.

"Yes, very full," Hayden replied with a smile, her face radiating happiness. Being able to eat until she was full felt like a luxury.

"Alright, let's go. I'll take you out of here," Sylas said.

"Okay," Hayden agreed, nodding.

Sylas opened the door and led the way, with Hayden following closely behind. The surroundings were quiet, any zombies that had been around had been lured away earlier. They passed numerous corpses along the way, causing Hayden's face to turn pale with fright. She knew the outside world was bad, but she hadn't expected it to be this horrific.

Just then, a zombie staggered into view. It spotted Hayden and rushed towards her with a greedy expression.

"Don't be afraid," Sylas reassured her. He produced a katana, and as the zombie neared, he swiftly decapitated it with a single stroke.
