I couldn't bring myself to call Mrs. Dragon or confront her without a plan yet. My heart was falling apart because of what I had just discovered.
But I will never allow these people to treat me the way they did six years ago. I'm ready to do whatever it takes to get my children back.
Our company had been going through some rough patches these past few days. We heard about a very important investor coming to the company today.
Everyone was on their best behavior, careful not to get caught off guard doing something that could upset the new investor.
"He's finally here," I heard one of my junior colleagues say.
We all stood up to welcome our new investor. At that pivotal moment, my pen fell to the ground. I quickly bent down to pick it up, and before I could stand up, I heard a man's voice calling my name.
That voice sounded so familiar. I wasted no time looking at the man who had called my name. I was taken aback to discover that it was Henry.
How on Earth did he find me?
"Is this really you, Andrea? I've searched everywhere for you."
If I had a knife in my hand right now, I would stab him. How dare he say those words to me after the way he treated me?
He was never a good husband to me. He never believed in me or anything I said. I angrily walked past him and totally ignored him as he stood there calling for me to wait.
I ran to the roof of the building to catch my breath. How I hate his guts right now. I really want to put a trigger in every Dragon's head. Maybe I should start with Henry Dragon first.
My phone started to ring. I let it ring for a while before I picked it up to see who was calling.
I was shocked to see that it was our company's director calling me.
I quickly answered the call. The director was furious with me. He threatened to fire me if the deal with Henry fell through because of me.
"Do whatever it takes to make Henry Dragon change his mind," he said before hanging up.
But how is any of this my fault? What did I do wrong? That Henry, only God knows what lies he told the director about me.
I quickly came down from the roof, and the first person I saw was Henry. He was still there waiting for me.
I could feel my stomach boiling with anger. At this point, I didn't care if I got fired. I could never bring myself to beg this man not to cancel the deal.
I walked past him, went to my desk, grabbed my bag, and then headed for the elevator, but he chased after me. We both got into the elevator. No one said anything while we were on it. As soon as we exited, I headed for the door.
Once we got outside, he finally spoke.
"Andrea, hold on for a second." I didn't stop but kept walking. "This is your last chance to save your company. If you keep up this attitude, I'll go inside and call off the deal," he said.
That certainly got me. I stopped, not because I cared if he called off the deal, but because I was disgusted by what I was hearing.
What does he take me for?
"Look, Henry, to hell with your money. I don't care if the deal falls through or if I get fired because of this. You are free to do whatever you want with your filthy money. Just leave me alone and stay out of my life, just like you've been doing for the last six years," I said, arching an eyebrow.
"I'm sorry, Andrea. I'm sorry for not being there for you when you needed me the most and for not being a good husband to you. That's what I actually came out here to say, not to get you fired. I will invest in your company, but just know that I'm doing this because of you."
The effrontery and the nerve of this man to think he's doing me a favor. But why the sudden realization? Did he already find out the truth that I'm innocent?
"Why are you suddenly saying all this now? So now you believe I'm innocent of all the charges laid against me after five years?" I stroked my hair back.
"No, it's not anything like that. I still believe you're guilty. But the thing is, after you disappeared, I started missing you so badly. I thought I was losing my mind. I don't know what you did to me."
Okay, that's it. I'm out of here. As I turned to leave, he told me I could never escape him because I'm still his wife.
"What did you just say?" I asked furiously. "What then did your lawyer have me sign while I was still in prison six years ago? Wasn't that a divorce paper?"
I never knew Henry Dragon as someone with a short memory.
"The divorce paper the lawyer brought to the prison for you to sign was fake, not real. I only did that to please my mom," said Henry.
Mrs. Dragon really played me for a fool. I never knew she hated me this much.
"What do you mean you only did that to please your mother?" I asked with curious eyes and stretched ears.
"It's all in the past, Andrea, so leave it be. But everyone thinks we're divorced. I never told anyone the truth, not even my mother."
Leave it be? How easy it is for him to say those words. Did he even know how much his mother hurt me or what I've been through at the hands of his family and his stupid girlfriend? I will never forgive these people.
"So why didn't you tell them the truth?" Already tearing up. "What did you have in mind when you had me sign the fake divorce paper six years ago?" Even a child would be able to feel my pain at this very moment.
"Did you have fun playing with me? Answer me, did you?" I couldn't control the tears anymore, so I let them pour freely. "I really hope this will be the last time I ever set my eyes on you." I turned and started to leave without looking back.
I can't believe Henry is still the same way I left him: slow and stupid.
I will not rest until everyone who hurt me gets what they deserve. Justice must be served, and in the end, I will be victorious.
This is just the beginning.
