Chapter 16 - Karl hatched

As Kael turned around, he realized that the egg behind him started to be filled with cracks.

‚Oh, is it finally about to hatch? I can't believe it has been a year already. One year stuck in this tiny cave with an egg.'

‚I wonder what type of beast will hatch. Considering that the eggshell is green it might be an emerald dragon. Or maybe it symbolizes the life inside a phoenix. I just hope it is something cool. At least I hope for a bear or a tiger.'

At this moment the eggs on the cracks spread even further, and a black paw with five almost human-like fingers pierced through the shell.

Out of the egg an animal slowly emerged. It had black and grey fur, two rounded ears two small black eyes.

‚What is this? It's neither a dragon nor a phoenix. It's not even a cool animal.'

„It's a fucking raccoon!" Kael screamed with a hint of confusion.

Just a second later a small paw suddenly hit him between his leg with the velocity of a bullet. Kael could feel that his balls were on the verge of exploding. A huge amount of pain rushed through his entire body.

‚What do you mean a fucking raccoon. I'm not just a raccoon, I'm the Ruler of the Past, the Present and the Future. I'm the Primordial Raccoon of Space-Time and Fate. The emperor of Reality. My name is…'

‚Uhmm, this is actually kind of embarrassing right now but uhh, did my father tell you my name?'

„What are you and how are you talking inside my head?"

‚Didn't I just tell you what I am silly human? And also we can communicate through the connection we made when you contracted me. Just focus on the line that connects your soul with mine and you can do it too.'

Kael focused on his soul and noticed that there was indeed a line that connected their souls with each other. After trying for just a second he instantly got the hang of it and could also speak inside the raccoons mind now.

He also had the feeling that the line had a few other functions. He would always be able to tell if the other party still lives and where he is.

,Why did you kick me in the balls though. That doesn't make a good first impression as my new subordinate.' Kael asked with a heinous look on his face, pronouncing the word subordinate.

‚Typical for a human, doesn't think before he acts. Do you really think my father would have given my life into your hands and make you the master of our contract?'

Kael wanted to retort something, but when he thought about it, it made sense. Why would he just let me take his son as a subordinate?

‚What you signed with me was a contract of equals. This means that if one of us dies, the other will also die or at least face a huge backlash that will probably cripple them.'

‚You also won't be able to give me any orders, we will have to cooperate in the future.'

For some reason Kael felt like the raccoon said the last part with a hint of disappointment.

‚You should have first read the terms and conditions before signing a contract. Can't complain about it now.'

Kael's mood was kind of down at the moment. After all he got a raccoon instead of a cool dragon he could fly on. He felt like he was completely scammed by that creatures father. And also, who even reads the terms and conditions? That's way too much work.

But at this moment Kael remembered something that instantly made him happy and put a provocative look on his face. ‚Didn't you ask me if I knew your name?'

‚Of course I did you forgetful human, finally you remember. Wait what's with the look on your face?' The raccoon, as a creature with a high affinity to fate, suddenly had a bad premonition.

‚Your name is… Karl hahahah. Kael the ruler of the Past, Present of Future. The Primordial Raccoon of Space-Time and Fate… Karl.' Kael broke out into laughter after saying this.

Karl suddenly had a unaccepting look on his face. ‚N-No this can't be you have to lie to me. You liar. My father would never give me a boring name. He probably chose something cool like… Kael, yeah that sounds more like me!'

‚Sorry to disappoint you but that names already taken by me.' Kael said with a huge smirk on his face.

,Ahem, I guess Kael is not that cool of a name anyways. Sounds like a loser human name. Karl is more fitting for someone esteemed like myself. Classical but still carries a lot of authority with it. Yeah I like that, it's a great name actually.'

Kael was somewhat sceptical. Who was he telling that to, Kael or himself? But Kael refrained from antagonizing the little guy any further. After all he would have to spend the rest of his life with him.

‚How do I even understand you though? You're saying words I don't know but I can still tell what you're trying to say.'

‚I forgot how ignorant you humans are.' Karl said, obviously feeling better already when bringing others down. ‚Thats the language of intent. A language that every living being can understand because the words carry the intent of what you're trying to express. You should definitely learn it soon since it's the main language of every universe out there.'

Kael rolled his eyes but didn't comment on it any further instead he finally asked Kael about his abilities.

‚Oh, you can just view my status screen because of our contract, just like I can view yours.'

‚I gotta say, for such a useless human you got some pretty decent talents. Even I can't see most of them and have never even heard of their names. And also what's that realm you're in? I've never heard of anyone reaching it inside the body refinement realm.'

Kael chose to ignore his questions for the moment and instead asked the system to show him Karl's status screen.

Kael was speechless. Wasn't this little, unassuming guy even more talented than him? This was the first time that Kael had seen a status screen where he couldn't recognize a single grade.

It seems like Karl didn't overstate his strength when introducing himself. Even the titles he gave himself could be found in the status screen? But what was the function of that title and why did it say ‚not activated'?

Seeing the look on Kael's face, Karl was really proud. ‚How dare you be depressed after seeing me hatch. It should have been your honour to see this monumental event.'

‚Why is your realm so low if you have such a great bloodline though?' Kael asked with a confused expression. As far as he knew, some of the elven geniuses were even born in the foundation establishment realm. How could Karl who was so much more talented only reach the Energy Refinement realm upon birth.

‚Hmph, how could I be born in such a low realm if it wasn't for your weakness? My father sealed my cultivation on purpose to let us grow together, if you were stronger I could have reached at least the nascent soul realm. Even in this low level planet with barely any spiritual energy.'

‚Now that I think about it, how do you know all these things? You've only ever been to this planet and shouldn't have any other planets to compare the spiritual energy to.' Kael suddenly remembered that Karl seemed to have a lot of knowledge right with his birth which baffled him.

‚Its obviously the knowledge I gained from my bloodline inheritance. Species with a high enough level can gain knowledge from their bloodline. The higher the bloodline, the more information it contains. In the future I will unlock even more knowledge as my realm increases.' Karl said with a satisfied looks in his eyes. He is obviously proud of his bloodline.

‚Okay I'm sorry for underestimating you.'

‚Let's first make a plan for the near future now and then finally look for some action!'
