Luck stared at the piece of paper containing Emilie's number, she had written it for him just before he left her room. Apparently it was normal for friends to have each other's numbers, he knew this but there was one obstacle.
'I don't have a phone. Well I'll get past that problem another time,' he thought.
Luck came to class a little earlier than usual today, he woke up early and having nothing to do he just decided to get dressed and go to school.
He was the only one in class when he got there but soon after the remaining students began to trickle in, the first surprisingly being Cosmo and then others followed suit.
The last person to enter the class was of course… Layla.
She looked a little sleepy but that didn't affect her coordination in any way, unlike most people who had late nights her hair was perfectly arranged and her uniform neatly ironed and even though she wasn't the earliest to come to class she was still far from being late.
She looked over to where Luck was briefly sparing him a glance before walking down to take her seat which was right next to his.
"So you finally stopped using your enigma." Luck teased.
There was no response.
"I was beginning to think you would keep using it forever, you must be really powerful to have it on for that long." He said, reclining his chair as he spoke.
Layla just reached into her bag and pulled out her phone.
'So she has a phone?'
It was strange seeing her do so because throughout the period he had known Layla never once had he seen her use a phone, that was probably why the thought of it never occurred to him.
Although it made sense that she always had one since she knew the class was postponed.
She brought an earpiece next and plugged her ears with it cutting herself out from the outside world.
'Someone is cranky today.' Luck thought reclining into his chair deeper.
It was normal for Layla to be oddly silent with some people, he had witnessed it a number of times since the few weeks he had been in the academy but it was never the same with him.
She always had a clap back, something witty or annoying to say but today was different.
'She is acting weird today.'
After a couple of minutes Arlder strolled into the classroom and with him was Ayra carrying a large box that looked heavy.
From the sound the box made when she placed it on the table he was now sure that it was indeed heavy.
"Good morning class."
"Good morning Sensei," the class echoed.
"As you all know, most of you did not complete the track punishment." He said with a malicious glint in his eyes.
The class groaned.
"Come on don't be like that, did you really think I was going to let you off just because majority of you didn't complete it?"
The students at this point were at the edge of their seats, they knew that none of them completed the jog the exception probably being Luck and Ella but even for them Arlder had to stop the punishment early.
There was now a mystery box in front of them and knowing how Arlder was it was truly scary. What could be in that box and why is Ayra with him?
The students stood at the edge of their seats tensions rising as they waited to hear what Arlder would say next.
But among them two students remained calm although curious why one of them was completely uninterested! He had completed the punishment after all.
That student was Luck.
"I couldn't think of anything that wasn't to harsh so I consulted Ayra and she gave me the perfect punishment."
"I hope you guys try not to see this as a punishment but a way to improve." Ayra said.
The class groaned once again.
Something about the way the class acted made it look like a punishment from Ayra would be even worse than one from Arlder.
"So as a punishment you are going to be completing the Venators guide to Phantoms, the secret edition." Arlder said.
"This will give you an in-depth knowledge of phantoms from their types to classes to skills that have been noticed in some phantoms." Ayra said.
"This is a special edition of this book not available to the public, you are not allowed to expose any part of this to the public. Not even to the B class." She finished.
As Arlder took out one of the books a student screamed.
The thing was huge!
It looked like an encyclopedia but slightly bigger and it definitely weighed a lot too.
As Arlder brought it out he had a knowing smile that Luck mirrored.
'These guys are cooked!'
One by one he began to call the names of the students that failed to complete their punishment forward to take their textbooks.
Layla went last, going forward to take her textbook from Arlder, she did not look pleased.
"Luck, come for yours."
"Huh?"
'Wait what?' He thought, slightly confused.
"Your textbook,"
"What textbook?" He had a bad feeling about this, Arlder was probably up to something again and Luck had a feeling that he had already been caught in it.
"I completed my punishment." Luck said now on his feet.
Arlder smiled.
'Damn it.' It was the exact smile he gave when he tricked Luck into getting a job and using his enigma.
"I only stopped Ella, you actually stopped on you own."
Luck was awestruck. He had been tricked once again. Did Arlder plan this from the very beginning or did it just occur to him.
Technically he was right, he never asked Luck to stop running, Luck had assumed and that very assumption was the reason he now had an encyclopedia sitting on his desk.
Layla chucked but returned to her stoic demeanor when Luck turned to face her.
"Ella, I assume you already have a copy of this textbook?"
"Yes sir."
"You and Noah are exempted from the punishment but I'll advise you to go through it as well."
"As for the rest of you know that Ayra will be overseeing the revision questions and if you are unable to answer them…. Well we'll cross that bridge when the time comes."
