Scott went on to look for ways to raise money so he could leave town and move to the big city to start a new life. He was now involved in small jobs to ensure that he and his brother David had enough to eat.
Scott worked in the streets, running errands for people who appreciated his strong work ethic.
Scott had planned out his life and promised David that he would go back to school. Now, thanks to the money he had earned from his jobs, Scott had enough to pay for David's school fees.
Before he got home, Scott bought some food on his way to the house. When he arrived, David came out to welcome him, but his face was not bright.
"What happened?" Scott asked.
David said, "You have been away for long. I'm hungry."
Scott smiled, "I know that's what you would say, but I got food for us. Can we go inside now?"
David smiled and said, "Yes."
They both went inside, and David ran to the kitchen to get plates for their food. Scott smiled and shook his head.
As they were eating, Scott told David that he would be going to school soon.
David was very happy to hear that he would be going back to school. After eating, they both went to bed, but Scott was always thinking about the death of their parents.
David, who had only slept for a while, woke up and saw his brother sitting behind the bed. Scott asked him, "What is it?"
David replied, "I can't sleep. I saw Mum and Dad."
Scott walked over to him and hugged him until he fell asleep again.
When David was asleep, Scott cried and said, "Why did wicked people have to take the things that are most important to me?" He eventually fell asleep in sorrow.
While he was sleeping, his parents appeared to him and told him, "Do not cry anymore. Face the reality of life.
Be careful of the way you mingle with people around you. Take care of your brother, okay, my son?"
The next morning, Scott woke up with a renewed sense of determination. The words of his parents echoed in his mind, giving him strength. He knew he had to be strong for David and for himself.
Scott prepared breakfast while David got ready for school.
The sight of David's excitement filled Scott with a sense of purpose. As they sat down to eat, David couldn't stop smiling.
"Thank you, Scott," David said. "I can't wait to go to school and learn new things."
Scott smiled back, "You're welcome, David. Study hard and make the most of this opportunity."
After breakfast, Scott walked David to school. On the way, he reminded David to be careful and to focus on his studies.
David promised he would, and Scott watched as his little brother entered the school gates, blending into the crowd of students.
With David at school, Scott had the day to focus on his own plans. He knew he needed to save more money if they were ever going to make it to the big city.
He spent the day taking on as many odd jobs as he could find, from running errands to helping with deliveries.
The work was tough, but Scott didn't mind. Each job brought him closer to his goal.
That evening, Scott picked David up from school. David was full of stories about his day, his eyes shining with excitement as he talked about his new friends and the things he had learned.
Scott listened, feeling a sense of pride. Despite their hardships, they were making progress.
Back at home, they settled into their routine. Scott helped David with his homework, and they shared dinner together.
The days turned into weeks, and their lives slowly began to improve. Scott continued to work hard, and David excelled at school.
One night, as they were getting ready for bed, David looked at Scott and said, "I know you're working hard for us.
Thank you, Scott. One day, we'll make it to the big city and have a better life."
Scott hugged his brother tightly. "We will, David. We will. As long as we have each other, we can achieve anything."
With that, they both went to bed, dreaming of a brighter future. The journey was far from over, but they were ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, together.
The next morning was another day for them to go out. Scott had taken David to school while he was on his way to work when he met someone on his way.
The man looked older than Scott, tall and dark in complexion. He stopped Scott on his way to work.
"Good morning," he said to Scott. "My name is James, but people call me Jimmy for short. I have been seeing you around. What's your name?" asked James.
"My name is Scott, and sorry, I'm on my way to work before you stopped me. How can I help you?" Scott asked.
"I would love to be your friend, and I like the way you do things, the way you work hard," said James.
"Sorry, I can't now. I'm very busy and don't have time to make friends. Okay, thank you," Scott said and left for work. James was amazed by the way Scott appeared so humble.
Scott, arriving where he was running errands, was met by a young man who asked a child to call him.
The child ran and touched him. Scott looked down and asked, "How are you doing?" The little boy said, "Fine," and told him that someone was calling him, so he followed the little boy and went to meet him.
"Good morning, sir," Scott greeted. "How are you? What is your name?" he asked.
"My name is Scott."
"Okay, I have been watching you for some time now. You are very hardworking."
The young man introduced himself as Mr. Lin Yu. He had an art painting company that was one of the best, but the problem was he couldn't trust people easily because he was into dirty business.
He was a drug dealer and a businessman with connections all over the globe but had no family because of the kind of business he did.
Mr. Lin Yu asked Scott if he could work for him. Scott answered, "Yes, with all pleasure."
Mr. Lin Yu smiled and moved closer to Scott, tapping him on the shoulder. "That's good. I need your help around here, okay." Immediately, he was given a business card by one of the bodyguards.
Mr. Lin Yu said, "Come to the office tomorrow, okay."
Scott replied, "Yes, sir."
Mr. Lin Yu left with his fleet of bodyguards, one opening the car door for him to enter, and they all left, leaving Scott behind. Scott was very happy because he thought that his dream was coming true.
"Scott would be utterly dismayed upon discovering Mr. Lin Yu's clandestine connection to his parents' tragic demise.
He would feel an intense sense of betrayal and outrage, coupled with a deep-seated fear for his own safety.
