Chapter 23 - Impossible Escape

The sprint didn't slow down even upon impact.

Chad 63B4 and Race 0A1 navigated through the grave silent street, finding their way to the opening that led out of the place.

The populace of Plygania stared at the two humans - even the younger lads, exuding an aura of disdain.

Chad 63B4 was slightly impressed he and his apprentice weren't already being chased by them. But still, he suspected they would have made their own contribution to the chase.

That was Plygania's system. Government of all, and for all.

Under the galley street of Plygania - with a clear blue sky filled with clouds, and both humans sanitized by the scorching heat from the sun, they soon realized their predators were catching up with them rather quickly.

The armies of Luxols soared through the air like angry eagles, darting toward the humans who only tried to maintain their distance.

Race 0A1, the once-upon-a-time student who now tried to escape the gnashing claws of the Luxols felt beads of tears blow from his eyes - from the air he gathered while sprinting through the streets.

His master, Chad 63B4 waved many meters in front of him, shrouded in pulsating blue lines - formed from the pressure that built around him while he darted through the air.

For a while, he even felt neglected and alone. His survival was entirely shrewd on his sole actions.

If he didn't run fast enough, he would end up being surrounded by the armies, and probably slaughtered like a mere calf. And Chad 63B4... he could only try to keep his own life, and maybe end up grief in general over his gored flesh - if he would have even felt that way.

From the eyes of the populace - both from of the Armies... all of them, Race 0A1 felt the peculiar mix of emotion layered upon him.

Irritation... Bloodlust... Disdain... Rage, and more.

It made him more careful of the life that still soared through his veins, easily pushing through the Luxols that minded their business on the pavement.

In the middle of his chaotic stature, Race 0A1 found the colored lines trailing across the streets glowing profusely... especially the red one.

The realization was something he could easily ignore, but for some reason, he felt like the networked telepathy from the lines placed him and Chad 63B4 at a dire point.

If the populace around the scene and beyond... even the armies shared a thought with these lines, the escape motion... though unplanned at the moment, had a further chance of failure.

'I have to severe this thing...somehow!'

Race 0A1 lost concentration, his gaze darting everywhere in a split second.

And finally, he found a kind of picky rod leaning on the glass surface of a certain building.

Acer aimed at the object, and at those moments, he found an army speeding right across his face, lashing at him a brief stare before he continued his chase with Chad 63B4.

And finally, like his own batch of hunters, Race 0A1 found himself being rounded up by a troupe of five armored men, eventually placing him only against the glassy texture of the building behind him.

He was in an obviously dire situation, and although, he stood directly beside the rod pike, even with a kind of black bike standing beside it.

A fine scent permeated Race 0A1's nostril... it's deliciousness enough to disconnect him from his predicament.

But in a near-death situation, he ignored the aroma without an effort, rather, bracing himself with the rod now clenched in his palms.

"D-don't kill m-me... Please." Race 0A1 was in visible tears, pleading for mercy even though it was obvious it wouldn't contribute a speck.

He was probably now the only Human in the vicinity, left alone to the cruel eyes of the Luxols.

Quickly, a sound pierced the deafening silence in Plygania.

The brisky and colloquial gunshot called for the attention of the Luxols in the scene, their eyes fixed on a figure leaning on a glassy building.

A smear of blood further stained the teenager's black clothes, and the ground slowly formed a pool of hot dripping, and red blood.

Anguis painted the face of the latter who could only but let go of the rod in his palms. Instead, placing both palms over his stomach, gushing out a pool of blood.

Race 0A1 fell to the ground staring at his wound that would probably before fatal if it remained unattended.

But yet, what was left to care for?

Held by gunpoint by the brutal army, their face now leaking a smile saturated with satisfaction, Race 0A1 could only think about how it would feel to be continuously penetrated by the bullet.

With a single shot, he was slowly losing himself to a state of numbness, immersed by the insane pain in his stomach, and the electrifying buzz within him... Maybe it was a further addon to the bullet.

'This battle wasn't even mine in the first place!'

Race 0A1 cried in a stream of deject and frustration.

He only wanted to learn a skill - that through interpretation from the words of Chad 63B4, could be handled with or without a mana-core.

Meanwhile, he was mana disabled, his glint of hope only arriving from the ability. Yet, he had to die in place of his predecessor even when he hadn't learned even the name of the ability.

'Such is life... But on the bright side - I'll see them again... Mama, papa, and little sister.'

As Race 0A1 watched the armies now unwield a round of gunshots, an opaque purple dome suddenly appeared over him, along with a tall man in shards of clean clothing.

"Kid! Seems like you'll be chanced to inherit my ability if we survive this." The man stared back at Race 0A1 for a second, a careful smile accompanying the tense atmosphere.

Race 0A1 watched as obvious purple fumes leaked from Chad 63B4's skin. Under such contained space, he almost choked at what aura the man radiated... It was unlike anything he'd ever seen the man give off.

But such radiant of hope could only remain for a moment as the dome...supposed to be a kind of barrier, began to tighten the air around them.

Chad 63B4 paced towards the latter, laying a glance at the boy's wound.

"You're in pain... But you have to hold me very tightly?!"

Race 0A1 nodded over a body shriveling with fear, and goosebumps rumped all over his skin.

The thick fumes from Chad 63B4 equally began to swirl around him, leeching particularly at the wound at his stomach.

A strange energy pulsated through his veins, wrapped in a fit of pain and disruptive force, but at the urgency of the situation they found themselves, he didn't have much time to think.

As Chad 63B4 and Race 0A1 lay into a tight embrace, the former struck into the air like it was nothing, leaving the smoky purple dome that faded into a deck of nothingness.

Only leaving behind, a thick mass of purple-greenish fumes.

Chad 63B4 still soared through the air, and like a propeller, launched himself directly towards a huge circular opening on the great wall that surrounded the territory.

Race 0A1 had his eyes shut all through the propel and launch move made by Chad 63B4... not just because the Skyview would have been too much for him to handle, but also from growing dizziness that drowned him.

From his height, he could feel his blood pour from his guts to soak his clothes - as well as Chad 63B4, and finally, drop from the height to the ground like a rain droplet.

And more darting, the mysterious energy that seeping into his body through the injury could make him run crazy.

It wasn't healing the fatal injury, or doing something similar - but as a matter of fact, it performed the exact opposite. Further leeching the pain into the rest of his body.

Stomach to hands, neck, eyes, brains, and even his pumping heart.

But still, he couldn't muster a word to tell Chad 63B4 of the tragedy. Resorting the bear the pain while it lasted.

Finally, at a scholarly speed thought only to be achieved by a high-tier Luxol missile, Chad 63B4 created a crater under his feet as they made contact with the ground, echoing far into the serenity of Plygania.
