Chapter 8 - Chapter 8. (CHOICE)

(Tring Tring Tring, Chip, Chip, chip) The alarm was ringing, the birds were chirping and Sophie was sleeping. Sophie's mom enters the room and is surprised to see Sophie still sleeping.

"Sophie, Sophie, wake up or you will be late for school," Mom said a little angrily while opening the curtains of her room. "Quickly, wake up and come downstairs for breakfast." She said while heading for the door to go out.

Sophie then slowly opened her eyes and looked around. She then slowly got up and sat on the bed. She was looking as if she didn't sleep well and was stressed. She then looked at the time and saw she was 15 minutes late from the time she usually woke up.

"Oh noooooo. I'M LATE!!!!!!" Sophie said while jumping off the bed and running to the bathroom.

Sophie then quickly got ready, and as she was about to go downstairs, she saw the stone, she didn't know why but she grabbed the stone and headed downstairs. She reached the table and quickly grabbed the bread and tossed it in her mouth. She grabbed her bag and rushed to the door.

"Sophie, I will drop James off. So you just need to catch the bus. Ok." Mom said as Sophie reached the door. "OK, Bye Mom," Sophie said while the bread was still in her mouth.

Sophie then quickly ran to the bus stop, only to find out that the bus left just a few seconds ago. "Oh no. Now what?" She said while being frustrated.

Sophie then checked her watch and saw she had 20 minutes before school started, so without thinking she started walking to school. As she was walking, she put her hand in her pocket and felt the stone. She pulled it out and held it. She then remembered everything that happened last night.

"Was that a dream or was it real?" She thought while looking at the stone. She then remembered what Digi told her. "Only one way to find out." She said while stopping at a point on the sidewalk.

She looked around to see if there was anybody, but there was no one, she was alone. She then took a deep breath, closed her eyes, held the stone close to her, and said with confidence, "REMIS."

She then opened her eyes and looked around, and nothing happened. Sophie sighed in disappointment. "Of course, it was just a dream," She said. "What was I thinking?" She said while keeping the stone in her pocket.

She then looked at her watch and saw that she had time. She then started to walk. "But it felt so real, it should have worked," She said while being confused. She then heard a voice from behind her, saying, "It did." She turned around and looked, but she didn't see anyone. As she turned back she saw Digi and got scared.

"Oh My God, Digi," Sophie said while being scared. "Will you stop doing that?" "Stop doing what?" Digi asked. "Scaring me," Sophie replied.

"Oh, Sorry," Digi apologize while putting her hand on the back of her head. Sophie then realized that Digi was right in front of her. "Wait, You're...here???" She said. "Of course, I am here," Digi said.

"No, I mean you came," Sophie added. "Of course, I did. I just got the call late." Digi implied. "So...that means...it was...real????" Sophie said, surprised.

"Of course it was," Digi said. "Or maybe I am just dreaming again????" Sophie asked. "OK, now that is concerning," Digi said annoyed. "Why did you call me? and where are you going?" Digi asked.

"I am going to school. I missed the bus so I am walking to school." Sophie replied. "Oh is that why you call me?" Digi asked. "No. I just wanted to see if you are real or not." Sophie replied. "And am I?" Digi asked.

"Fortunately, you are," Sophie responded. Sophie then checked the time and found out she only had 10 minutes before school started but she was still far.

"Oh no, I am gonna be late, I have to get to school," Sophie said worriedly. "Well, since I am here, why don't I help you get to school?" Digi asked. "How?" Sophie said while being confused.

Digi then opened a portal. Sophie was surprised and looked at Digi. "Just think about where you want to go and enter the portal," Digi explained.

Sophie then closed her eyes and entered the portal and when she opened her eyes and found herself at the backside of her school. Sophie was happy. "Thanks, Digi," Sophie said. "No problem, just call me whenever you need my help," Digi said.

Digi then went back to her place, through the portal. Sophie then quickly enters the school and goes to her class. When she enters her class she doesn't see Bella in their usual seat. She then puts her bag on her seat and looks around for Bella, she then asks the guy in the front seat.

"Hey Mike, have you seen Bella?" She asks. "Yeah, they called her for the debate competition," Mike, the boy with black hair and brown eyes responded. "Oh okay, thanks," She said.

Sophie looked at the time and she had 5 minutes before the class started. So she decides to see her friends. She left her class and headed towards the locker area where she saw her friends.

"Hi, guys," Sophie said while waving. "Sophie?" Phil said, surprise to her, as she came late. "Wow Sophie, that's a surprise, you came very late today," Lucy said. "Are you OK?" Faith asked concerned.

"Yeah, Me and Bella didn't see you at the bus stop. We thought you were sick. Are you alright?" Nick implied. "Would you guys let her talk?" Brian said. They all kept quiet.

"Thank you, Brian. Well, I slept in, and because of that, I missed the bus. So I...." She stops for a second. ".....I walked to school that's why I am late."

"Well, at least you made it on time," Miles said. "Yeah Miles," said Sophie. The bell rang. "Oh well I'll see you guys later," Sophie said, walking back to her class.

They then went to their class. After some time Bella enters the class with a very worried face. "I am very sorry for coming late to class, Mr. Filch," She apologized to the computer teacher.

"Are you one of the debate competitors?" The teacher asked. "Yes sir," Bella replied. "Well, now brilliant minds like you do need time." Mr Filch implied.

When Mr. Filch said that Bella looked more worried. "It's alright, come in." He said.

Bella then thanked the teacher and entered the class. Sophie could see that Bella was worried. Bella went to her seat and saw Sophie.

"Oh, Sophie. How are you? I didn't see you on the bus so I thought...." Bella was saying but Sophie talked. "That I am not coming today? Yeah, I was just late."

"Oh okay," Bella said but was worried again and Sophie saw that. "Bella, what is it?" Sophie asked, concerned about her friend. "I'll tell you after the class," Bella said.

At the end of the computer section, "Alright, that's all for today. So since I have taught you about the topic of Basic Programming, I will give you a Project, it must be submitted next month and it's an individual work." Mr Filch explained. Everyone looked surprised.

"You are to create a Programming, it can be anything, a website, a game, a pop quiz anything. But create a program. Ok? And mind you if anyone's work is the same that's a zero. See you in my next class." Mr. Filch said and left the class

"Oh great, another project." One of the students said. "Don't worry we can do this." Another student assured the others. "Hope so," Mike said.

Sophie heard other students talk about the project but she then turned her full attention to Bella. "OK, now what's bothering you, Bella?" Sophie asked.

"It's the debate. The teacher called me today to tell me, that I haven't been performing well. I am just stressed out about it. And she said that if I keep this up, I will have to leave the Competition. And now I am getting nervous. What if I don't do well?" Bella implied.

"You're nervous? Bella, you're one of the most confident people I know. You can't let negativity get to you," Sophie reassured Bella. "I don't know," Bella replied uncertainly.

"You know what? Let's practice during recess. Just you and me. I'll help you," Sophie offered to help Bella. "Thanks, Sophie," Bella said with a smile.

"What are friends for?" Sophie smiled back. During recess, Sophie and Bella went to the school garden to prepare for the debate.

"Alright, first do the introduction," Sophie instructed. Bella started her speech and they spent 30 minutes practicing. Bella was getting the hang of it and regained her confidence.

"Thank you," Bella said after finishing her speech. "That was good," Sophie complimented and clapped. "Thanks, Sophie, for the help. I appreciate it," Bella said.

Sophie smiled back. Bella then started going the speech for the last time and Sophie was enjoying the breeze with her eyes closed and when she opened her eyes she saw Digi in front of her. "Hello." Digi greeted while waving. "Digi! What are you doing here?" Sophie said worried because Bella was also there. She turned to Bella, but she focused on the paper.

Digi floated to Sophies left side and Sophie turned to her which made her back to be visible to Bella. "You have to go, Bella will see you." Sophie warned Digi. Digi just giggled. "It's not funny Digi." Sophie said unhappy. "Sophie, Nobody can see me except you. Because you are the guardian and I am only visible to you, She can't even hear me." Digi explained. "What?" Said Sophie in a whisper.

"Sophie?" Sophie turned to Bella who was looking at Sophie with a worried face. "Who are you talking to?" Bella asked. Sophie was shocked and turned back to Digi, Digi made a "I told you so" face. Sophie then turned back to Bella who was waiting for an answer. "Well.....I.....I was ah...just talking.....to myself. Hehehe" Sophie replied nervously and when she looked back to Digi she was no longer there.

"And why were you talking to yourself?" Bella asked. "Come on Bella, everyone talk to themselves, have you never talked to yourself before?" Sophie replied hoping Bella would understand. "Right, but still-" "Told you we'd find them here." Sophie and Bella turned to see Miles and Nick were approaching them.

"Fine, you were right," Nick conceded. "What are you guys doing?" Miles asked expressionlessly. "Sophie was helping me with the debate," Bella replied. "Yep," Sophie said, relieved for them to come on time.

"How was your soccer practice, Nick?" Bella asked Nick. "Oh, it was good," Nick replied. "He injured his leg," Miles said, pointing his thumb at Nick. "Miles!" Nick protested.

"Are you okay?" Sophie asked, concerned about Nick. "It was just an injury. It'll be fine. It happens," Nick assured them "You should be more careful, Nick," Bella said.

"And Miles, how was your computer club?" Sophie asked. "It was good. Exciting to hear we have a computer project now," Miles said, smiling.

"Oh yeah, about that. Since you're a computer nerd, could you help us with the project?" Bella asked. "Yeah, please, Miles," Sophie also requested with googly eyes.

"Fine. Since I'm helping Nick, I can also help you two," Miles sighed. They chuckled a little.

"Well, thanks for helping me, Sophie. I guess sometimes you have to choose to do something even though it's hard because if I do this, I'll be proud of myself. It's once in a lifetime," Bella implied.

"Agreed," said Miles. "That's so true," Nick added. "Yeah," Sophie agreed. After hearing that, Sophie suddenly remembered something Digi had told her.

"Once...in a...lifetime?" Sophie thought, lost in her thoughts. They all looked at her.

"Sophie?" Bella said. "Sophie, hello?" Nick waved his hand in front of her eyes. "Huh?" Sophie snapped back to reality. "Where were you lost?" Miles asked, arms crossed.

"Oh, uh, nothing. Just something about the project. Anyway, let's go. Recess is almost over," Sophie said, trying to cover up her distraction.

They were all confused about what Sophie had said, but they shrugged it off and went to their classes. After the day ended, the gang met up again.

"Why is life like this?" Phil whined. "Why, Phil?" Faith asked. "The computer project, that's why," Phil replied.

"Don't worry. It'll be fine. Right, Miles?" Lucy said, nudging her elbow into Miles. "What?" Miles said. Brian, Phil, and Lucy made puppy eyes. Miles sighed. "Ugh, fine." "Thanks, Miles," said Brian.

"Alright, see you guys tomorrow," Bella said. They all said goodbye to each other and left. Sophie, Bella, and Nick were waiting for the bus when they saw Nathan and Gia.

"Oh hi," Bella greeted Gia. "Hello, Gia," Sophie also greeted. "Hi, Nathan," Nick greeted Nathan. Nathan and Gia greeted back in unison. They got on the bus and went home. Sophie reached her house and entered to see her mom in the kitchen cooking something delicious as always.

"I'm home," Sophie greeted. "Welcome, dear," Mom greeted back. James came downstairs. "Haha, I came first," James said, pointing to Sophie. "Oh yeah, come here, you monster," Sophie said, tickling James.

"Now someone had a good day in school," Mom observed as Sophie tickled James. "It was good, Mom," Sophie said as she stopped and put her bag on the chair. "Alright. Go change and come down to eat," Mom instructed.

Sophie went to her room, cleaned herself, and changed. She then felt the stone in her pocket, pulled it out, held it in her hand, and smiled. She left it on the table and headed downstairs. During their meal, Mom had big news to share.

"So, I have big news," Mom said. "What is it, Mother?" Sophie asked. "Am I getting a PS5?" James asked with his mouth full. "What?" Sophie looked at James.

"Ah, no James. Your dad called and the deal he went for is final," Mom said happily. "Wow, thank God for that," Sophie said. "So, with that, he's coming back tomorrow," Mom announced.

"OK, that's good to hear," Sophie said. "So I'm not getting a PS5?" James asked. "Seriously, James?" Sophie said. "What?" James said, shrugging. "OK, enough. Now finish your dinner," Mom said.

After eating they went to their rooms. Sophie went to her room and waited for her mom to sleep. Around 12:30 a.m. She woke up and carried the stone.

"I'm doing this," Sophie said confidently and took a deep breath. She closed her eyes, held the stone, and said "REMIS."

After she said that, a glowing light appeared and Digi popped out. "Oh hi, Sophie. You called." Digi greeted Sophie. "Yes. Digi, I've decided." Sophie said and sat down on her bed.

"Oh?" Digi said. She then sat down on the chair that she magically brought. "So?" Sophie took a deep breath and look at Digi with a serious face and smiled. "I'll do it." She said.

"Are you sure?" Digi asked with a serious expression. "Yes, I mean it's a choice I have to make, that comes only once in a lifetime. Yes, it will be hard, but if I try my best and believe in myself I can do anything. And there was also this thing I read in a book that life is full of mystery and expriences that awaits you, for you to be able to discover the unknown and since I am already doing that in my universe I know I can learn more in others. And besides, you'll be with me, right? You will be my guide, right?" Sophie implied. "Yes of course. My name, Digi means DIGITAL GUIDE." Digi said.

"Why isn't it Sigi, since you are a spirit?" Sophie asked, teasing. "I like Digi better," Digi said and laughed. Sophie also laughs. She stops and looks at Digi "I am ready."

"Alright then, Mistress," Digi said. "Why did you call me mistress?" Sophie asked. "Because now you are officially my master," Digi replied.

"Call me Sophie. That's what friends do." Sophie said with a warm smile. Digi was surprised to hear that and was happy that someone called her a friend.

"Alright then Sophie, we will begin your training tomorrow." Digi implied. "Training?" Sophie said.

"Yes, you need to prepare. You can't go for a fight like that." Digi implied. "You have a point. Alright." Sophie agreed. Sophie then smiled and Digi smiled back. Digi then went back and Sophie then went to sleep.

"Everything will be fine. God is with me and I can do this." Sophie thought and went to sleep.
