Chapter 41 - 20. Mission (part 1)

Character : Nathan Fiore, Mission

-----

For the next hour and a half, I just spent my time playing around with these boys.

To my surprise, they are all quite funny. I know from experience that I can get along with just any group of people, but the nerds squad will always be the most fun to be with for me.

We all moved to the very corner of the yard, right behind the trees and below the tall academy walls. The bald guy, Henry, is an earth origin user. He created multiple target practices for everyone to shoot at, and all four of them started shooting their best attacks one by one.

And honestly, their attacks weren't that bad. The origin techniques they showed me are more or less at Lily's level, but aren't polished whatsoever.

The things that Miss Hilda said during class A's training class, like spinning, sharpening, or pressuring the origin techniques, these guys don't do any of those things. They just fired a fireball raw, the stone spike was messy, and so on.

The guy with round glasses, Jerry, fired a wind blast to the pile of rocks that bald Henry made. The wind blast was purely just a lump of compacted air being thrown, and though it managed to push the pile of rocks down, there's no way such a thing can damage a titanium wall.

And yet, when I watched Nyssa use the wind spear technique yesterday, she can pierce the three times thicker titanium wall. The difference is just mental.

But, that doesn't mean these guys are without talent. They definitely have the talent, but it seems like they are just untrained.

Especially… the one with the darkness origin. The long haired tall guy, Elzir. He is very good at controlling his darkness origin, even though his firepower when attacking isn't really good.

How… interesting.

"Elzir. Are you from the dark republic?" I asked him after seeing him shooting a darkness arrow to the pile of rocks.

He turned to me quite surprised, and he awkwardly nodded. "Yes. I am."

"Oho! I've always been curious about the weather over there. I heard it was super cold, right?" I cheerfully asked, and Elzir looked really surprised by that question. For sure he must've thought about something else, and I can see right through him.

"Is the dark republic that cold? How cold is it compared to Ellen?" Jerry with the round glasses asked, and I tried remembering what I read.

"If I'm not wrong… because of its mountainous area, snow falls almost every day of the year!" Hearing that, everyone was really surprised.

"Wow! I've never even seen snow!" The spiky hair, Kareem said with excited eyes. Jerry also agreed.

"Same!"

Henry the bald guy turned to Elzir with confusion. "If the dark republic was so cold, then was it a big surprise to you coming here? Ellen must be really hot for you."

"Yeah, that's what I was wondering as well. How's Ellen for you?" I asked Elzir, and the tall guy looked really uncomfortable from the amount of questions thrown at him.

"It's… not that bad." He answered awkwardly, and everyone can tell he is lying.

"You must've hated the desert, huh? I bet you really wanna go home!" Jerry said as he patted Elzir's back, and honestly, well said!

"How are things these days in the dark republic? It's currently summer, right? Is there any vacation for the people there?" I asked Elzir some, trying to dig deeper. "I'm sorry, I'm just really curious! The weather there must've been so cold compared to here."

"Yeah, I wanted to visit there someday. Do you reckon we can come with you to your place on holidays?" Kareem asked, and seriously, these guys just share the same brain cell as me.

"It's…" Elzir looked like he had trouble answering, and it was just as I expected.

This hunch of mine is usually never wrong. This guy is a spy.

"Hey. Elzir." I called him out of the blue, and he turned his sweaty face to me. "Are you okay? You look like you've seen wars."

Hearing such words from me, Elzir looked extremely surprised. Everyone else also noticed this condition of him, and they all turned worried.

"Yeah, Elzir. Are you good, man?" Jerry asked as he patted Elzir's back.

"I'm okay… Sorry, I just had a little headache." Elzir quickly gathered his thoughts, and it looks like he is back to normal. "My bad, I've been feeling under the weather recently."

"Must've been your body coping with the temperature. You look like you're sweating bullets!" Kareem said while pointing at his face, and Elzir laughed as he nodded.

"Yeah! It's very hot here, actually! Sorry, I'm just really weak right now. Can we sit under the tree again?" Elzir continued, and no one seemed to mind it.

Funny. This guy suddenly turned quite talkative.

"You think this 'Elzir' guy is a spy from the dark republic?" Miss Hilda said while she put on her academy jacket for teachers, and I nodded while reading her origin science book.

I went to her office straight away when the class ended because I wanted her to know about it. Fortunately, she hasn't left the academy just yet, so I was able to catch her in her room.

And from the amount of boxes in here, I can tell she spent all day just preparing. From the looks of it, she is going to leave in just a bit. She is already wearing her jacket now, so it seems she really is leaving soon.

While sitting down at the empty sofa in her office, I told her my suspicions about this Elzir guy that I just met. I mentioned my methods of obtaining information from him, and I told all of that to the vice headmaster.

Hearing such things from me, Miss Hilda thinks quite deeply.

"To tell you the truth, we are keeping an eye on all the children from the dark republic." She said while taking out a stack of papers from her storage bracelet, and she placed it on top of her already empty desk. "Aside from this Elzir kid, there are also twenty others from the dark republic. And combined with the second and third years, there are over sixty of them."

"I'm guessing you have problems keeping an eye on every single one of them?" I said while closing the book, because she finally gave me information that we can talk about.

"Well, it would be great if you can reduce the search size by investigating the first years. I'm not doubting your skills, but that might be difficult for you to do, even for someone at your level." Miss Hilda said with a cunning grin, and I know she is purposely baiting me into agreeing.

I let out a sigh and stared at her with a cold glare. "If you want me to help out, just say so."

"Wow! You're so considerate! You definitely take that from your father." She said as a response, and I was reminded of Dad's considerate behavior.
