Chapter 6 - Light Affinity

"Alright, your path toward strength will be harder than I imagined," his grandmother sighed softly. As someone who had developed the darkness attribute, she knew firsthand how challenging it could be. There were few references and little guidance for such a rare element. It was akin to pioneering new technology: the more people used it, the easier it became to develop. Most of the development in this world focused on the seven basic affinities because of the numerous users who could offer guidance. That's why the strongest individuals in this world typically only wielded the basic elements, with Victoria herself being the notable exception. Some even called her the pioneer of darkness because she single-handedly developed this element to its full potential. If Lysander wanted to become strong, he would need to become a pioneer of the light element as well.

Lysander, seeing his grandmother's sigh, understood that this would be even harder than he had initially thought. The only exception was that he had a system, an otherworldly aid that could potentially help him develop more rapidly in this uncharted area. The system, with its unique capabilities, might give him the edge he needed to navigate this difficult path.

"I understand, Grandmother. So, are you still going to train me?" he asked, knowing their elements were not compatible.

"Of course, but only in mana manipulation," Victoria replied, her voice firm with resolve. "This technique was personally created by me, and only your mother and big sister know it. The Academy teaches their own mana manipulation techniques, but they are basic. Many strong families and organizations have unique mana manipulation methods tailored to their needs. This is something everyone must learn, regardless of their affinity. Proper mana manipulation allows you to generate more mana and control it more smoothly, enhancing your ability to maximize your strongest elements."

She paused, letting her words sink in. "This technique will help you channel and control your light affinity more effectively. The foundation of any strong mage, regardless of their specific affinities, is superior mana control. With this skill, you can push your light abilities to their highest potential."

Lysander nodded, a determined look in his eyes. He realized that since his grandmother was one of the strongest people on the planet, her mana manipulation technique was likely of the highest quality. He muttered to himself, "If this technique can help me even half as much as it did Grandma, it will be invaluable."

"Then let's start now," he said, urgency clear in his voice. He knew there were only two months before the academy began, and time was not on his side.

"Hehehe, that's the spirit," Victoria said, clearly satisfied with his attitude. Not only did he refuse to despair upon learning his affinity, but he also seemed more motivated than ever. Perhaps he could become someone like her, a pioneer in his own right.

Victoria led Lysander to a secluded part of the garden, a serene spot surrounded by tall, ancient trees. "First, sit cross-legged and close your eyes," she instructed. "Mana manipulation starts with sensing the mana within you. Feel its flow, its rhythm. Become one with it."

Lysander did as he was told, closing his eyes and taking deep breaths. He could feel the ambient mana in the air around him, a gentle pulse that seemed to sync with his own heartbeat.

"Good," Victoria said softly. "Now, I want you to visualize a small, glowing orb in your chest. This orb is your core, where your mana is concentrated. Focus on it and try to expand it slowly."

As Lysander concentrated, he imagined the glowing orb in his chest, feeling the warmth spread through his body. The orb pulsed gently, responding to his focus. He could feel his mana beginning to flow more freely, a gentle stream that gradually became a steady river.

"Excellent," Victoria praised. "Now, I want you to slowly guide that mana throughout your body. Feel it flowing to your fingertips, your toes, and then back to your core. This exercise will help you control your mana more precisely."

Lysander concentrated, guiding the flow of mana through his body. It was a strange sensation, like a warm, comforting wave washing over him. He could feel his control improving with each passing moment, the mana responding to his will.

Victoria watched him closely, nodding in approval. "You're doing well, Lish. Remember, control is everything. The more you practice, the more natural it will become. This is just the beginning, but you have a strong foundation to build on."

Lysander opened his eyes, a look of determination on his face. "Thank you, Grandmother. I'll keep practicing."

Victoria smiled, her eyes filled with pride. "I have no doubt you will, Lish. With hard work and determination, you can achieve great things. Remember, this journey won't be easy, but I believe in you."

Lysander nodded, feeling a surge of motivation. With his grandmother's guidance and the help of his system, he was ready to take on the challenges ahead. The path to mastering his light affinity would be difficult, but he was determined to succeed.

Without him noticing, the sun had already begun to set. The garden was bathed in the warm hues of twilight, casting long shadows that danced across the ground.

"That's enough for today," his grandmother's voice broke the silence. Lysander opened his eyes, slightly disoriented by the sudden end of his training session.

"This kid really has good patience and a high level of focus," Victoria muttered to herself, impressed. Usually, beginners who were just starting to learn about magic were awkward and clumsy during their first attempts. But not Lysander; he had shown remarkable composure and concentration.

"Excessive training will only harm your body. You must train in moderation," her voice left no room for refusal.

"Okay, okay," Lish muttered, feeling the soreness across his body from the intense session. He hadn't realized just how taxing it had been until he stopped.

"Since it was your first day of training, your mother has prepared a grand banquet for dinner," Victoria said happily, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "She wants to celebrate your progress and ensure you are well-nourished."

Lysander's face lit up at the mention of a banquet. "Really? That sounds wonderful!"

Victoria nodded, smiling warmly. "Yes, Seraphina has gone all out. She's prepared all your favorite dishes."

With a gentle touch, Victoria placed her hand on Lysander's shoulder, and in an instant, they were enveloped in darkness. The sensation was disorienting but brief, and moments later, they found themselves back in Aurelia, their nation.

The grandeur of the Aurelia estate greeted them, its tall spires and elegant architecture bathed in the soft glow of the evening. The air was filled with the tantalizing aromas of a feast being prepared, and the sounds of laughter and conversation drifted from the dining hall.

As they entered the dining hall, Lysander's mother, Seraphina, greeted them with a warm smile. Her eyes sparkled with pride and affection as she approached her son. "Welcome back, Lish. How was your first day of training?"

"It was intense but rewarding," Lysander replied, smiling. "I learned a lot."

Seraphina nodded, placing a gentle hand on his cheek. "I'm so proud of you, my dear. You're showing great promise."

The dining hall was beautifully decorated, with garlands of flowers and candles casting a warm, inviting light. The long table was laden with an array of dishes, each more mouth-watering than the last. Roasted meats, fresh vegetables, aromatic breads, and an assortment of desserts filled the room with their delicious scents.

"Come, let's sit and enjoy this feast," Seraphina said, leading them to their seats. "Tonight, we celebrate your hard work and dedication."

As they began to eat, the conversation flowed easily. Victoria recounted tales of her own training and the challenges she had faced, her stories filled with both wisdom and humor. Lysander listened intently, absorbing her words and feeling a deep sense of connection to his family's legacy.

The evening continued in this joyous manner, with stories, laughter, and an overwhelming sense of warmth and togetherness. Lysander felt a deep gratitude for his family's support and love. They believed in him, and that belief gave him the strength to face the challenges ahead.

As the night drew to a close, Seraphina raised her glass in a toast. "To Lysander, may your journey be filled with strength, wisdom, and success. We believe in you and are here to support you every step of the way."

"To Lysander" echoed Victoria, her voice filled with amusement.

"To Lysander!" the room chorused, their glasses clinking in celebration.

Lysander smiled, feeling a renewed sense of determination.
