Kael brushed a stray lock of Rosa's braid away from her shoulder. "Don't look so surprised. I told you I would always protect you."
Rosa blinked processing his words. She realized he must have had eyes on her during her argument with Zarek. His ability to gather information so swiftly suggested he had infiltrated the Department of Diplomatic Affairs long before she arrived.
"You're incredible…" she blurted out a heartfelt compliment from one guild master to another. She was genuinely impressed by his extensive influence and overseas information network. "…I didn't get a chance to see you last night, nor did I announce my new position here. The speed with which you discovered my whereabouts is truly remarkable."
Kael's smile was self-satisfied. "Even if I hadn't been keeping an eye on you, the palace in Vordania is buzzing about the rain finally falling on the desert sands…"
Rosa looked up at the cloudless sky, then back at him, puzzled.
