Rosa finished a long, much-needed bath that day, feeling somewhat less shaken by the unexpected confrontation with Count Highmore. Deciding on a blue satin nightgown, she walked out of her dressing room, then out of her bedroom, and headed toward her father's study with Roxan following closely behind. The young maid's footsteps were quick and light as she tried to keep up with Rosa's usual pace since Rosa felt less inclined to put on an act when it was just the two of them.
"Are you sure about this, my lady?" Roxan asked. "It is not my place to say, but hearing that you plan on locking yourself in your father's study..."
"I'm certain," Rosa replied with a smile reserved for those she truly liked. "After the conversation we had in the carriage, I realized I needed to take responsibility for the family's accounts. It's something the heiress of this household should have done long ago."
