Anyone familiar with transmigration knows the three customary laws for transmigrators:
1. The protagonist's past and present names remain the same.
2. The protagonist is an orphan, often with a notable lineage.
3. The protagonist transmigrates to a remote, impoverished area with no significant experts.
Kent felt that he hit all three points because he transmigrated into a lizard.
Firstly, since the original lizard had no name, he was still called Kent.
Secondly, the lizard he possessed supposedly had dragon blood, albeit extremely diluted, but it still counted as having a notable lineage.
Finally, he found himself just outside the beginner village in the game, an area devoid of any significant experts.
That's right, a game. The beginner village. Kent transmigrated into a game and became an elite monster of moderate difficulty just outside the beginner village.
Outside Kailin Village lies a vast wasteland teeming with countless magical beasts. Everyone on the Immortal Continent knows these beasts are both dangerous and ferocious. No one but the powerful Transcendents dares to venture alone into the wilderness. However, in the eyes of the impending Fourth Calamity about to descend on this land, these creatures are merely sources of experience points and quest objectives.
On a small hill, not very high, covered with lush trees, lay a giant lizard over five meters long. It resembled a Komodo dragon from Blue Star, with a fierce face, sharp claws, and teeth, thick grayish-white scales, and a bewildered expression.
'Who am I? Where am I? What happened?'
Lying in the shade for a long while, Kent finally figured out his situation. He was from Long Country on Blue Star, a recent university graduate turned proud corporate drone. After enduring the hardships of society and the grueling grind of work, he decided to reward himself during the long-awaited Spring Festival.
He shut the door, prepared some tissues, and started playing a game. This was a groundbreaking masterpiece called "Immortal."
No one knew who the publisher of "Immortal" was. Players only needed to fill out their address on the official website, and the next day they would receive a package containing a holographic helmet, showcasing technology far ahead of its time.
Wearing the helmet, players experienced incredibly realistic sensations in sight, touch, taste, and smell, making them feel like they had transmigrated into another world and become powerful Transcendents. For a gaming industry still stuck on mobile, PC, and console platforms, this game was a revolutionary breakthrough. It quickly became a global sensation during its beta period.
In the game's Immortal Continent, players could do anything: battle powerful wild beasts, join armies invading or defending nations, and explore the cultural pavilions of different races in towns.
Kent loved this highly open game. As a beta veteran, he planned to bid a final farewell before the beta servers closed.
He played for an unknown amount of time before blacking out. When he woke up, he found himself transmigrated into a lizard.
'Could it be that my mindless borrowing in the cultural pavilion before the servers closed got me in trouble?'
'I remember the pavilion owner was a succubus. Did she curse me?'
Kent wondered aimlessly, trying various ways to log out but to no avail, until he accidentally opened his system panel.
The system panel was identical to a player's, with three modules: personal attributes, marketplace, and forums, though the latter two were still locked.
Name: Kent

Mana: 450 (Spirit * 50, recovery speed 0.09 per second)
Stamina: 420 (Constitution * 20, each normal attack consumes 20 stamina, full-speed running consumes 1 per second when stamina is depleted, the attack is disabled and agility is reduced by 50%, resting restores 63 (Constitution * 3) stamina per second)

Dragon Blood (Grade D): You possess a minuscule amount of dragon blood, intimidating enemies, reducing their agility and strength by 10% (minimum 1 point), and exerting a degree of fear over weaker opponents.
Poison Fang (Grade E): Your saliva contains toxins. When you bite an enemy, they suffer 15 points of special damage per second for thirty seconds.
Description: A weak lizard that shamelessly claims to be of dragon descent.
There were also four skill panels he hadn't examined closely yet, but he understood their general functions.
The Wasteland Dragon Lizard was one of the easiest elite monsters to defeat outside the beginner village in the game.
Just by looking at the attribute panel, it was clear: its strength and agility were low, with the highest attributes being constitution and dual resistance. It was just a punching bag!
Kent vaguely remembered that he had passed out just before the servers were about to shut down, and since the time in the game and Blue Star were synchronized, this meant...
There were only three days left until the official server launch!
No, it was night when he passed out, and now it was morning. So, he only had two and a half days left!
By then, countless players would flood into this world, raising their slaughtering blades against the wild beasts (experience packs).
Just thinking about it made Kent both worried and distressed. By then, wouldn't he, as a low-difficulty elite monster, be repeatedly killed by players?
The key issue was he didn't know if he would respawn in the wild after dying. Considering his current situation, it seemed like a bug.
What should he do? Run away to somewhere far from the beginner village?
The problem was that those areas were home to even more powerful monsters, and he would die if he ventured there unprepared.
Damn it, couldn't he have two and a half years to prepare?
Just as Kent was at his wit's end, he noticed a line of red text on his attribute panel.
[Design Points: 550 (Earn 10 design points per level up)]
What is this?
Kent clicked on the words "design points" with his mind, and a simple, unadorned panel popped up.
He stared at the new panel for a long time before throwing his head back and laughing, emitting a series of creepy hissing sounds.
A cheat! I have a cheat!
The design points could be used to modify his model data. Whether it was adding powerful skills or changing his talents, it was all possible!
In addition to adding existing skills and talents, he could even DIY his own. Of course, this required more design points.
As long as he had enough design points, he could even change his attributes to "God"!
After calming his excited heart, Kent began to browse the panel, seeing what he could do with the current 550 design points.
Unfortunately, he couldn't add them directly to his six attributes. Otherwise, he could add 90 points to each, making it impossible for those level 8 or 9 players to think about farming him as a beginner player.
It's worth noting that even the fastest scouts and assassins at level 9 would have a maximum agility of about 20 points.
After thinking for a long time, Kent made his decision.
[Spend 500 design points to add S-level talent "Gluttony"]
Kent felt his mouth, throat, and internal organs burn as if on fire. The scorching sensation shot to his head, making him hiss uncontrollably.
Moments later, his thick needle-like teeth fell out, replaced by two rows of sharp teeth: an outer row shaped like daggers and an inner row rougher but equally menacing.
Additionally, he could now open his mouth 160 degrees, allowing him to swallow food he couldn't before.
[S-level Talent "Gluttony": An insatiable hunger allows you to devour anything in the world.]
- Trait 1: You possess an extraordinary digestive ability, able to consume rare resources to permanently enhance your attributes.
- Trait 2: By devouring the life forms you kill, you gain an additional 25% experience and restore 1-20% of your maximum health (depending on the strength of the consumed unit).
What kind of boss is the hardest to defeat? One that is tanky, tough, and can heal while fighting!
This is why the Valkyrie with life-stealing abilities in "Elden Ring" became a nightmare for many. No matter how skilled you are, can you avoid getting hit by the boss?
With the "Gluttony" talent, Kent could not only consume resources to enhance his attributes but also heal himself by eating a magical beast after being wounded by players.
Or, when surrounded by players, he could endure the damage, instantly kill a squishy player, and heal himself.
Moreover, this trait could earn extra experience, making it a perfect growth skill.
It's important to note that the only way to earn design points is through leveling up.
Thinking of this, Kent decided not to use the remaining 50 design points in a hurry.
Rolling off the giant rock, he wobbled towards the nearest water source, relying on the original lizard's memories.
As a simple-minded lizard, its limited brain capacity only allowed it to remember where water, food, and danger were.
There was only one river near Kaylin Village, named Torrent Stream, known in the game map as [Torrent Stream Bank].
This winding stream, with its clear waters, was home to numerous herbivores and magical beasts, attracted by the lush grass along its banks.
Reaching the Torrent Stream Bank, Kent immediately spotted his target—Wasteland Rabbits.
Wasteland Rabbits were [Common]magical beasts of levels 1-3, looking much like the wild rabbits on Blue Star, except for a single horn on their heads and their size, comparable to an adult corgi.
[Species: Wasteland Rabbit Status: Common Level: Lv1]
[Description: How can you not gulp down such an adorable rabbit?]
Since Kent didn't have the players' inherent [Insight], he couldn't see the exact attributes of the Wasteland Rabbit. But that wasn't a problem—design points to the rescue!
[Spend 10 design points to add special skill "Insight": View the attribute panel of targets up to 15 levels higher than oneself]
Instantly, Kent's eyes felt an intense pain, and tears flowed uncontrollably. When he opened his eyes again, a mysterious rune flashed in his pale golden vertical pupils.
With the "Insight" skill obtained, Kent immediately started checking the Wasteland Rabbit's attributes.
[Attributes: Strength 3, Constitution 3, Spirit 1, Agility 3]
[Health: 150/150 (3*50), Mana: 25/25 (1*25)]
[Stamina: 30/30 (Constitution*10, each normal attack consumes 10 points, sprinting consumes 1 point per second, with no stamina, attacks can't be performed, and agility drops by 50%. Stamina recovers at 6 points per second (Constitution*2) while resting.]
Unlike Kent, the Wasteland Rabbit's health was calculated as Constitution*50 instead of *100, and its mana was Spirit*25 instead of *50. This was due to the unique game mechanics of "Immortal"—different ranks of magical beasts had different coefficients.
[Common] magical beasts had a health coefficient of 50, while Kent, an [Elite], had a health coefficient of 100. This meant that even if a Wasteland Rabbit mutated into a ten-thousand-year-old Soft Bone Rabbit with the same Constitution as Kent, its health would still be half of Kent's. Additionally, common-ranked beasts had no dual resistance, so any damage dealt to them was true damage.
Furthermore, the attack and stamina coefficients differed by rank. [Common] beasts had an attack coefficient of 10, meaning a Wasteland Rabbit's normal attack dealt only 3*10=30 physical damage. On the other hand, [Elite] Kent's attack coefficient was 20, meaning his normal attack dealt 10*20=200 physical damage.
The stamina coefficient followed the same pattern; higher-ranked beasts consumed more stamina with normal attacks. This coefficient mechanism ensured that "Immortal" didn't have the issue seen in other games where low-level bosses were weaker than high-level regular monsters.
The Wasteland Rabbit was the weakest magical beast in the wasteland, without even a single skill, and was prey to some wild beasts. This was why Kent targeted the Wasteland Rabbit. He hadn't yet adapted to the body of the Wasteland Dragon Lizard, with uncoordinated limbs and a tail that got in the way.
If he chose to hunt level 4 or 5 magical beasts, it would be challenging, if not fatal. Another reason for choosing Wasteland Rabbits was their strong reproductive ability. Blue Star's wild rabbits could breed 7-8 litters a year, with 7-8 offspring per litter, while Wasteland Rabbits could breed over 10 litters a year, with over 10 offspring each time. If not for humans and magical beasts hunting them as a primary food source, the wasteland's ecosystem might have been destroyed by these small rabbits.
Spring was their peak breeding season, and the first novice task for players in Kailin Village was: [Spring has arrived, time to kill some Wasteland Rabbits].
The banks of Torrent Stream were teeming with Wasteland Rabbits munching on grass, saving Kent the trouble of finding prey. Though he couldn't handle level 4 or 5 beasts yet, hunting Wasteland Rabbits was an absolute overkill for him.
Moreover, his D-level talent "Dragon Kin" could intimidate the Wasteland Rabbits. When he ran over to eat them, they wouldn't resist but rather lay there waiting to die, still trying to eat a few more blades of grass before their end.
Kent opened his gaping maw and swallowed a Wasteland Rabbit whole. The kill notification immediately popped up.
[Killed "Wasteland Rabbit (lv1)", gained 0.8 experience points, "Gluttony" talent triggered, gained an additional 0.2 experience points]
Experience points!
High-level players killing low-level beasts usually suffered experience reduction. Kent recalled someone posting about why they stopped gaining experience from killing Wasteland Rabbits. Players who checked the post found that the player had leveled up to 8 just by killing Wasteland Rabbits and had never left [Torrent Stream Bank]. Clearly, "Immortal" intended to prevent this by implementing the experience reduction mechanism.
At level 10, Kent didn't expect to still gain experience from killing Wasteland Rabbits. Looking at the countless rabbits along the stream, Kent's savage grin revealed a glint of greed.
These were all experience points! Though little, they were perfect for him to adapt to his new body.
