Chapter 35 - The Battle Field

The Kitara kingdom is beginning to get under siege as the Punt soldiers are beginning to take a part of it. It is a busy morning in Kitara and the people are attending to their daily lives activities as the warriors of the kingdom are also in the preparation awaiting the intruding Punt soldiers. They seem not to have any other thing to do other than prepare to face their worse enemy who are trying to take over almost all kingdoms existing. This feels like the age of colonializing coming but this time being colonized by a brethren kingdom. The Kitaran army is as strong as the army of the Ptolemaic kingdom, but not as many compared to their approaching enemy. It is either they win the battle against the enemy or live the rest of their lives following the orders of their new rulers, neither will it be easy on them. Life will be living hell for them if they intend to allow their kingdom to be précised over.

The Punt army are beginning to sneak their way into the Kitara Kingdom, and they are doing so by entering through the border that has the weakest or the inexperienced soldiers. They are having it a bit easier due to the information they are being fed by their ally who works directly with the king of the Ptolemaic Kingdom, Emissary Boateng. It is of course becoming easy for them since they know what to do and when to attack, and as soldiers, you follow the commands given by your general. Regardless of that, the kitaran soldiers are vigilant and determined not to be deterred or tempted by their enemy.

Masinissa Linette Duah II, together with his cabinet and the presence of their unknown traitor, are still deliberating of the next steps to take in other to capture the schemer whose intention is to turn the kingdom into a sobering one. This is worrisome as there is no clue to guide them in which direction to take to come to the solution. The citizens have already lost trust in their ruling king as they are wondering if fleeing to other kingdoms is the solution or just to wait and be taken as prisoners by a touting enemy. And with the information reaching the king and his cabinet, the army of the enemy has taken a huge progress in number, as they seem unstoppable at this moment.

The Kitara kingdom is getting occupied, as some of its dwellers are held captive and used as bait against their king, for him to either surrender the throne or be sent the head of his beloved people held captive every single day until they are all executed. They use the Mapungubwe people as an example, who have already given in and surrendered themselves to their rule and are taking their side in the ongoing conflict of interest amongst the kingdoms. The king of the Kitara kingdom seems not to be deterred by the threats of the Punt soldiers, and stood his ground of fighting to the very end, but wouldn't it seem selfish to put the lives of your people at risk just to maintain your reign?

More and more of its people are being taken by the enemy to their camps and tortured mercilessly, some of its women being treated with absolute cruelty and molested, while the able men and young ones are used on the farms taken from the Mapungubwe people. The Kitara kingdom is now requesting to their king to flee from the kingdom since this does not look good on their side, and maybe seek refuge in the Ptolemaic kingdom, while they fight in preserving the land on his return. As undeterred as he seems, he swore not to leave the kingdom until the enemies are driven away by any means possible.

The people together with their king, met the Punt soldiers at an agreed location, in other to fight each other till the last man drops, and with that, the winner will determine what to do with the kingdom he will take. Both set of armies met at the designated location and confronted each other one soldier at a time. But to the surprise of the Kitaran soldiers, the king of the Punt kingdom isn't part of the army at the battlefield. They waited to see if the king will make any appearance since he is their target of attack on the battlefield. It is kind of amazing that one sit in the comfort of his palace and command others to go take the land of the other kingdoms, without getting himself involved in the war. His was seen as the attitude of the coward or attitude of the cowardice in ancient African kingdoms. As king, you take part in all battles that is to be fought whether it is to preserve the and protect the throne as well as the people living in your kingdom, or being it a fight to forcibly take other kingdoms. By doing so, the other traitor gets to the punished on the battlefield either by killing or by capture.

The king of the Kitara kingdom has paid his mandatory task by being present on the battlefield to face their enemy. As he asked of the whereabout of their king and why he is not at the battle, they refused to respond to his question and urges the war to be started. Before any war battle starts, three strong men are presented by both side and made to fight against each other, and which ever side kills the opponent, they get to put it forth before their opponent the options to retreat or fight to face the consequences that has befallen their soldiers, which is death. As this being the case, the first group of the Punt soldiers were killed and beheaded before their commander in chief, as he stands and watch it all happen, yet none of the soldiers of their opponent, which are the Kitaran soldiers, is hurt or killed. They were given the option of retreating or face the same fate that has befallen their warriors, but they refused and sent another set of soldiers, which were also killed and beheaded before them again. This continues for the third time, yet they seem not to get the message of not finding it easy in defeating the Kitaran army. The Punt army chief became furious and threatened to behead all captives of the Kitara kingdom if they fail to submit themselves to the will of the Punt Kingdom.

It is obvious and clear that the Punt army stands no chance of winning this battle and will lose both their kingdom and the Mapungubwe kingdom to the Kitara kingdom. Having this knowledge of not winning the battle, they breached the agreement by sneaking other soldiers into the Kitaran kingdom, while they destruct the kitaran soldiers on the battlefield. The King of Punt, together with his soldiers, decided to cheat and take the Kitara kingdom with everything possible, as they know they stand no chance for them in winning this battle. The fight on the battlefield is beginning to take heat as the commander in chief of the Punt army has charged his soldiers to fight the Kitaran soldiers and kill them all if possible. While the battle is going on, he, the head of the punt soldiers, decided to target the king of the Kitara kingdom, as, if he is captured or killed, their lands automatically becomes theirs and will be under the full control of their coward king.

The king of the Kitara kingdom is one of a lion who is never easy to be taken on. He is extremely strong and have the will power of burning a whole kingdom just for the safety of his people. He has already imagined and known that their target will be him, he has already figured it out that the punt soldiers would want to use the battle as a tool of destruction, so they can get access into the kingdom and make it theirs. It is well known of the mischievous act of a constant breach of agreement to be a part of the punt kingdom, and by knowing so, the necessary steps were taken in other to deal with such incident which was already likely to happen and was made to take them by a surprise.

The battle continued for a long time as the number of the Punt army was much more than that of the Kitaran army, but strength and resilience was in the blood of the Kitaran people. They Punt army is now left dumbfounded as they wonder why they seem not to be taking the lead in the battle, but rather seem to be fleeing one after the other. They seem to have the largest number of soldiers yet no progress is coming from their end but rather from their opponent with the least number of soldiers. This will surely bring the end to their reign and will make them the prisoners if the battle is not won.
