Several months had passed, and the operation to implant the Gene-Seed, along with Vergil's training, was complete. Vergil heard that Dante was becoming busy with his Task Force, and several Brotherhood of Knights from the Grey Knights had also been dispatched to defeat the Daemons that had appeared on the battlefield. Vergil noticed that he was much larger than before, to the point where he had to wear Terminator Armor while continuing his training. Vergil was pleased because, in the Grey Knights' library, he could study many methods and techniques for defeating daemons. Vergil wondered if other Space Marines were the same. He received news that, although he was a Psyker, because he was from a different world, he had a bit of freedom. Not long after, Vergil heard that someone was looking for him.
"Brother Vergil? It is time for your final test," the figure said.
Vergil looked at the Grand Master clad in white power armor. Even though the Grand Master was over 200 years old, Vergil could still sense the immense strength that radiated from him. The man wore a silver robe with red lining, and on his Power Armor, there was a halo bearing the symbol of a Grand Master.
"Grand Master Aiden," Vergil said, kneeling before him.
"You arrived here a few months ago, brought by the Custodes. Initially, I was hesitant to accept you, but in these past months, you have grown far beyond what I had imagined," said Grand Master Aiden.
"Thank you, Grand Master..." Vergil replied.
"It is time for your final test... Come, follow me," Grand Master Aiden said as Vergil followed him into a grand hall.
The hall was quite large, with several Terminators also preparing for their trials. Grand Master Aiden was ready to administer the test for the new members of the Grey Knights. Shortly after, other Grand Masters joined, but Vergil noticed that one was absent—Supreme Grand Master Kaldor Draigo. Vergil had heard that the Supreme Grand Master was in the Warp, hunting the Daemon that had slain Supreme Grand Master Janus.
Vergil and the other members knelt and began their trials. The Grand Masters of each Knight Brotherhood watched closely. The Grand Masters started by offering all manner of power, but Vergil and the others completely rejected these temptations. During the second test, the atmosphere shifted. Vergil could see Daemons beginning to appear, attempting to seduce the other members undergoing the trial. Vergil too was tempted with power and wealth. However, Vergil knew this was a basic trick of all Daemons. Having faced Daemons in his previous adventures, he was accustomed to such offers and found them utterly uninteresting.
"Rise, all of you..." said Grand Master Vardan Kai. Vergil, still kneeling, glanced around and noticed that some members were missing.
"Those who have failed must repeat what they need to learn or become Serfs. To those who have succeeded, congratulations," Grand Master Vardan Kai declared. "From this day forth, you are officially members of the Grey Knights and will soon receive assignments from the Inquisitor of Ordo Malleus."
"To the Terminators, you will be equipped with Nemesis Spears as your weapons and Aegis Armor as your armor," added Grand Master Aiden. Vergil and the members who had successfully completed the trial nodded with satisfaction.
Vergil and the other successful candidates soon proceeded to the chamber where they would receive their new armor. Tech-Priests and Grey Knight Serfs were waiting to assist them in donning the armor. Vergil was the first to suit up, and with the help of the Serfs and prayers from the Tech-Priests, he fully donned his new Terminator Armor, the finest the Grey Knights could offer, along with a Nemesis Spear.
Vergil could smell the strong incense from the Tech-Priest. Servo-Skulls hovered nearby, inspecting to ensure the armor was properly fitted.
After donning his armor, Vergil immediately began training with several members of the Silver Blade Brotherhood. Unbeknownst to him, Grand Master Caddon Varn of the Rappier Brotherhood was observing closely, noting Vergil's mastery over all things related to Daemons and his performance during the training. Without a hint of hesitation, Grand Master Caddon Varn approached Grand Master Aiden.
"Grand Master Aiden, I lost several Terminators in the last mission assigned by Shield Captain Dante of the Adeptus Custodes, and it seems I might recruit some newly inducted Terminators," said Grand Master Caddon Varn.
"The Adamnadula Campaign, where we seized the Agri World that was attacked by the Iron Warriors yesterday, correct? I will consider this matter," replied Grand Master Aiden.
"If possible, we need to act quickly. We must remain strong so that the Ordo Malleus does not become suspicious of our previous oversight in underestimating Calas Typhon and the Plague Marines," Grand Master Caddon Varn said.
"Very well then... our new recruits are already quite elite," said Grand Master Aiden.
"What do you mean, as given by the Custodes a few months ago?" asked Grand Master Aiden.
"I have seen that all of his test results were perfect, from combat techniques to resisting Daemon temptations," said Grand Master Caddon Varn. "According to the Custodes who found him, he is the best Daemon Slayer. I've heard that even hearing his name causes Daemons to tremble with fear."
"The Custodes never lie, and the results speak for themselves. Also, I hear that Vergil is the twin brother of one of the Custodes who requested my troops for the Adamnadula Campaign, Task Force 413, if I'm not mistaken."
"Task Force 413, you say? I hear they always travel with a Gloriana-Class Battleship and have a base on a Agri World," said Grand Master Aiden.
"Can I request that he join the Reaper Brotherhood?" asked Grand Master Caddon Varn.
"I will take care of it soon. Make sure he becomes the most elite Daemon killer," said Grand Master Aiden.
"Everything can be arranged... it's just a matter of whether he will agree to undergo it all," said Grand Master Caddon Varn.
Vergil was still training against Terminators more senior than himself. The drills were routine, but the weapons used were real. Grand Master Aiden soon entered the training room, and everyone immediately stopped and knelt before the Grand Master.
"Vergil, you are the finest graduate of the Grey Knights, and other Brotherhoods need your skills. Henceforth, you will be transferred to the 6th Brotherhood of the Silver Rapier. You will carry out all tasks assigned by Grand Master Caddon Varn, and your advanced training will be even more challenging," said Grand Master Aiden.
"I accept this and will proceed to the headquarters of the 6th Brotherhood immediately," Vergil replied.
"Very well, then... And for all of you, we are under the jurisdiction of the Inquisitor of Ordo Malleus. Should the Inquisitor request our deployment to the battlefield, it means that the world is under attack by Chaos Daemons, and we are the hammer that drives those Daemons back to their place of origin," Grand Master Aiden declared.
