Chapter 28 - A New Beginning

Noelle took in a deep breath as she haggardly layed her head upon the carriage seat.

'Madam Danielle must've find out about the coins by now,' Noelle thought inwardly, and a smile manifested on her tender lips.

'A six hour journey should be a piece of cake. At least it's better than a two days journey, and hopefully I won't get robbed alongst the way again this time,' Noelle stated inwardly as she closed her eyes.

Noelle had already done some research on her own, and from the findings, she had managed to figure out that from where they presently were to the castle she was presently going to was just a six hour ride. And if the weather was good, they would be able to reach there by afternoon and if not, perhaps evening.

Opening her eyes briefly.

Noelle raised her head from the carriage, and looked towards her luggage bag. She opened it and brought out an ointment. It was the ointment that Madam Danielle had given to her in order to apply to her burnt fingers and heal them.

However, Noelle had been in a hurry this morning and had forgotten to apply them.

Opening the ointment she gently applied it on her fingers. 'So from now on. Other than being wary of rainfall I should also always be wary of physical contact with salts too.'

'I guess I should get a book to jot all this down, before it all skip my mind. And also I think I should probably get an umbrella because of the rain. Although it's not raining season yet. But I shouldn't take any risks.' Noelle thought as she continued to apply the ointment on her fingers with care, and when she was done applying it, she closed it and kept it back inside her luggage.

'I have a feeling umbrellas would probably cost a fortune here. Everything is so expensive nowadays, I wonder why? But regardless of that, I should still get one. Perhaps maybe when I get my first salary, I will do that,' Noelle thought. Since she has already spent almost all the coins given to her by gifting Madam Danielle and Westley out of it.

Therefore, she couldn't spend more, or else she would go broke, which wouldn't be good. Not that she regretted giving it to them anyways, they really deserved it for everything they've done for her, and for all the affection they've both showered her.

However buying an umbrella now would really reduce the coins.

Fortunately, there hasn't been much rainfall but only snowfall here for the past few days Noelle had been out of the water. Although whenever Noelle was bathing she doesn't usually percept any signs of herself turning into a mermaid, except for multiple green scales occupying her smooth skin.

And as much as she loved rainfall, she would now also have to be cautious of it. Knowing that if ever she got drenched by it, then her mermaid scales would definitely show and it would put her life in risk.

"Mother, Father. And my two elder brothers. I'm finally on my way. To seek my revenge, and to avenge your deaths. I beg you please support me. Let it go perfectly, and exactly as I've planned. And that way you'll finally be at peace. Please give me your blessings. Please," Noelle fumfered to herself with her captivating emerald green eyes occupied with excess hopes.

She sighed, as she leaned against the window side and stared out the window, watching everything that was going on around the streets and at every passer-by as they walked swiftly, and as everyone was busy minding their own business.

As she continued staring outside. They soon passed by a particular place. The whole place smelled like nothing but fishes. Perhaps it was an area designated for fishery.

And not too far from where Noelle was, she could see multiple living fishes being brought out of a large drum filled with water and then the next moment they were cut into several pieces by a boorish man who was clenching onto a sharp knife.

And this startled Noelle given that she was a mermaid. She could feel herself feeling pity towards those fishes and at the same time, she could feel herself becoming scared by the sight of it, especially at the sight of the red blood dripping from the fishes. Noelle stared for a while at the scene and hastily looked away as she panted slowly.

For some reasons she had started to see fishes and other creatures that lived beneath the sea as somewhat human being. Perhaps living in the sea had changed her perceptive a lot.

Trying to relax herself inwardly, Noelle swallowed, "I'm just overthinking it. Which I shouldn't be. I'm human now, just like I was before. I shouldn't think too much about it. I'm not a fish anymore," Noelle muttered under her breaths in assurance as she casted her hands upon her beautiful face.

She could only wonder what the people would do to her if ever they later found out that she was a mermaid. She didn't know. But what she knew was that no one else can ever find out about this secret of hers. That way, she wouldn't have to find out about what they normally do to sea creatures like her.

Removing her hands from her face. Her face had already turned pale.

Noelle stared down at her aching legs, and slowly massaged it gently with her hands. This leg was the only thing lowering her self-confident currently. If only it could stop aching, at least for just until she finished her revenge mission, then she would be super happy.

But of course, that seemed to be too much to ask for.

Glancing at her shabby black staff, she mumbled, "I guess I'm stuck with you now. You're like my other half which I can't do without," Noelle sighed tiredly.

She couldn't help but notice everyone always looking at her awkwardly and differently whenever they saw her needing a staff to walk. It felt so embarrassing, she could discern how that mailman back at the mail office looked at her awkwardly after seeing her staff, and how all those Guards whom she had troubled back at the local market looked at her also when they saw her holding a staff. And also how that orange haired man stared at the staff too.

This led Noelle into thinking back to how that attractive orange haired man threatened her on that day. Somehow she felt as though they weren't empty threats, she didn't know why but she could feel the strange powerful aura radiating from the man.

'I wonder who he is?'

'And how dare he even threatening me like that. All this wealthy people are really something,' Noelle thought aggravatedly, 'But at least he's sensible enough to have decided to pay for the damages his coachman caused to that innocent woman.'

'Other than his rude voice. He seems generous,' Noelle thought fairly. Besides those large sized gold coins which the orange haired man threw to her feet were enough for her to rent a house, and start a new business. And this meant that he must be extremely wealthy.

'I just hope that we never cross path again,' Noelle hoped, fearing the last words which the attractive orange haired man said to her face fearlessly.
