Staring sideways at Noelle was Sylvester, "Miss Noelle, please keep up with me," he requested politely, although he knew that Noelle was disabled and couldn't walk quickly, however at the same time she was being too slow.
Meanwhile, Noelle was only being slow due to staring at the magnificent castle, not that her leg were the reasons she couldn't walk fast.
"Okay, Sir," Noelle replied diligently, as she hastily walked towards Sylvester, catching up with him.
"Miss Noelle, I'm presently taking you to meet Mistress. As you know it's not up to me to decide if you're going to work here or not. It's up to her. So please Miss Noelle, do not be angry if she doesn't employ you. I promise to personally help you find a new job somewhere else if she doesn't employ you," said Sylvester with a reassuring nod, and Noelle couldn't help but smile to the man's words. From what she had seen so far, Noelle could tell that the Butler was a good man.
"Thank you for your kind words, Sir," Noelle appreciated with a reply.
Perhaps Butler Sylvester felt pity for Noelle, since he had already been payed for the acceptance fee by Lord Abraham. But still he wasn't sure if Daphne would accept Noelle's request as a Maidservant in the castle.
Soon enough, Noelle's eyes fell on some portraits upon the wall. Again, she felt as though she had seen the person on the portrait before, but she wasn't really certain. Thus, Noelle chose to ignore it.
She followed Butler Sylvester, until they passed through a particular beautiful corridor. Passing through it, Noelle met with some Maidservants alongst the way, and as always they looked down on her simply because of her shabby black staff.
Perhaps they could already tell what she came to the castle for.
Later on, Butler Sylvester soon suddenly stopped walking upon reaching a particular entrance. The entrance was covered with huge red curtains.
Noelle who had been blindly following Butler Sylvester, was caught off guard by the sudden stop. And almost slammed her face against Butler Sylvester's back. Lucky for her, she was able to get a grip on herself before that could happen.
Staring backwards at Noelle, "We're here," the Butler muttered to Noelle which Noelle nodded to.
Butler Sylvester pulled the curtains aside and knocked gently on the huge wooden door. "Mistress! It's me Butler Sylvester!" he volumed.
A penetrating silence occurred for a while.
"Come in," a solemn but audacious voice eventually sounded from inside the room.
Hearing this, Sylvester turned towards Noelle, "Stay here, I'll call you in when needed, alright?"
"Alright," Noelle assured and stood outside.
Noelle stood outside, as she watched Butler Sylvester go in. Noelle could feel her heart accelerating like never before. She clenched onto her staff, as her face became even more paler than snow.
Besides, what if Daphne refused her? It would mean she would have to start plotting another revenge tactics again, and that might take ages.
Noelle stood there impatiently. She tried to eavesdrop on their conversation but couldn't hear a thing.
Therefore she stared amidst the passageway. Indeed not much Maidservant were present in the castle from what Noelle had seen so far, the castle appeared almost empty.
Noelle was already lost deep in thoughts, but was unexpectedly jolted back to reality when she heard the door opened again.
She gripped the reins of her luggage and looked anxiously towards the person that just came in. It was Sylvester.
"Miss Noelle she wants to see you, follow me," Sylvester informed.
"Okay," Noelle nodded and dreadfully followed Sylvester. Wondering if she had really made the right decision to come here or not.
Entering into the room, as always it deemed exceptionally luxurious and pleasing. Looking around the room, it contained several musical instruments—zither—harp—and a large piano. The room also contained several shelves of books, and a single golden couch and two wooden chairs.
This was Daphne's personal study room. It was different from that of Axel's from earlier.
In the room were two people, one was a woman whose hairs was all white, and likewise her eyes, she was smartly dressed in a decent and royal attire, and was also reading a book as her face was buried in it, and seeing this, Noelle could only guess that she was Daphne Giovanni.
While the second person was a lady, perhaps in her twenties, she wasn't wearing the Maidservants attire which Noelle had seen earlier on the Maidservants body when she was coming in. So Noelle guessed that she was also royalty.
The beautiful lady was dressed in a gorgeous attire, a long velvety gown, and her hairs were brown but had some white strands within them and was packed into a bun. She resembled Daphne a lot.
The lady was busy massaging Daphne's shoulders gently. She was also glancing down at the book which Daphne was reading, and when she noticed the present of the lady which Sylvester was talking about.
She gently leaned towards Daphne who was still reading, "Mother, they're here," Yvonne Giovanni, which was Daphne's daughter stated in whispers softly to her mother who didn't realize this yet.
And upon realizing that Noelle was indeed here. The both of them stared upwards at the new girl expectantly, and as expected they both gave the black staff in her hands an awkward stare. Causing Noelle to feel nervous, but of course she tried to remain calm.
Her face was what remained calm, however so could not be said for her insides.
Butler Sylvester spoke first, "Mistress, this is the lady that seeks a Maidservant job here in the castle." Sylvester could already tell Daphne's answers from the way she stared a Noelle's staff.
Noelle came forward, she hastily made an head bow without saying anything.
Daphne stared at Noelle, as her eyes scanned the girl's body peculiarly.
"What's your name?" Asked Daphne firmly.
Trying to sound as polite as ever, Noelle forced a smile, "My name is Noelle Easton," she said, knowing that she couldn't say her real surname to avoid unnecessary suspicions.
"Where are you from?" Daphne asked. Perhaps this was an interview of some sort, and thank goodness, Noelle was already ready for things like this.
Performing another head bow, "I'm from Wenapia, Mrs Giovanni," Noelle replied with a lie as always. Since Wenapia was a town very faraway from here, so it was the perfect lie.
"Okay. How old are you?" Daphne asked casually.
"I'm nineteen years of age."
Hearing this, Daphne continued, "What can you do here in the castle?"
So Noelle was right, it was indeed an interview.
"I can do the dishes, take care of plants, clean the castle and also do the laundry," said Noelle sweetly, as both Sylvester and Yvonne only stood there watching the scene. They were both certain that Noelle wouldn't get the job.
So they didn't understand why Daphne was even bothering to ask her anything. And didn't just go straight to the point. And chase her away.
"You can't cook?" Asked Daphne, since Noelle didn't mention it. Besides what use is a Maidservant that can't cook?
Lowering her head in shame, "I can't," she stated honestly, already developing plenty doubts about any chances of her being employed. She had a feeling she wouldn't be employed.
"Oh…" Mistress mused. She had thought that perhaps Noelle had only forgotten to mention it and that she could really cook.
"Okay then. What talents do you have?" Daphne questioned again, and Noelle wasn't sure if this type of questions were occasionally asked during interviews, but it didn't matter. She would have to answer anyways.
As always Noelle's alluring voice sweetly sounded, "I can sing perfectly. And also I can play all type of musical instruments even with my eyes closed." Although Noelle didn't want to reveal this because it might raise suspicions, however, knowing that her chances of working in the castle had been deteriorated due to not knowing how to cook. Therefore, she had to say this.
Upon hearing Noelle's statement everyone in the study room became quite surprised. They felt that her claims about being able to play all types of musical instruments was just a bluff. Talkless of having to close her eyes whilst playing it. Unbelievable!
This farther amused Daphne, and she continued staring at Noelle strangely.
This was something Noelle had always known how to do since she was little. Although she had been taught when she was little. But that wasn't only the case, instead it was because she was a mermaid. So she knew almost everything concerning music naturally, as a gift that came with her mermaid abilities.
Knowing that the people didn't seem to believe her. She spoke with the most delicate smile, "Why don't you let me show you. If you could please allow it, I would like you to grant me the permission to play the harp, the zither and the piano for you."
An amused smile appeared on Daphne's face, "Very well then," she replied, giving her approval which further surprised Yvonne and Sylvester but they couldn't say anything than to just observe.
Besides, they also wanted to know if Noelle was telling a lie or not. But seeing the girl's self-confident, they both guess that it wasn't a lie.
Noelle took in a deep breath, 'I've got this,' she said inwardly and nervously. Moving towards the direction of the large harp, she sat on the stool there, and layed her fingers on the tiny melodic strings of the harp.
She closed her eyes, then began playing it. And to the surprise of the people, it sounded wonderful and melodic, she played it for some few minutes. Knowing that she had done a perfect job, however sadly she wasn't able to see the pleased and amused looks on the people's faces as they listened to her playing the strings so perfectly. Since her eyes were closed.
After playing it for some time.
she got up from the stool and then opened her eyes. That was when she could see their amused stares.
"I shall play the piano now," Noelle informed with her former smile still manifesting her soft lips.
Daphne gave her a nod of approval. With that Noelle walked confidently towards the piano with the help of her staff. She played the keyboards on the piano very captivatingly also, as though she had mastered it for centuries, not making any errors alongst the line. She played it so confidently with her eyes closed firmly.
And when she was done, she opened her eyes.
She smiled as she got up from the stool, "I shall play the zither now," Noelle informed, and walked towards the zither which was on the table.
She sighed before starting. She then closed her eyes, then began playing the strings on the zither too, and this time she made sure to play it marvellously, knowing that this was the last instrument to play, and if she didn't ace it, then her chances of working here might be cut short.
Noelle played it perfectly, and passionately. She played it for some time, and when she was done, she opened her eyes and got up from the stool and gently walked towards Butler Sylvester, she then stood beside him.
Noelle spoke elegantly with an head bow, "If there's still more musical instruments, if you want, I can play them for you."
Upon saying that, Noelle stared forward at Daphne and Yvonne who stared back at her, hoping to hear from them.
