Chapter 3 - Home?

After the delivery the great hero phonzo was renamed by his so called "mother" who gave birth to him as Gonzo.

They lived under the old mid wives roof located at the deepest reaches of the forest lying steadily on top a small cliff for a whole month as guests.

yet Gonzo's mother aided her with chores despite the mid wives protests whether it was to arrange and clean her shack or to fetch wood for fire from the abundance of trees below.

During this time Gonzo began to enjoy his new life as a baby considering he only had to relax and feed on his mother's breasts milk daily.

On the last day of the month it was time for Gonzo and his mother to depart back to her village away from the familiar mountainside and forests which he had began to recognize as home .

With Gonzo at her back his mother had laid down the last stack of wood for the old woman as a final gesture of gratitude before her departure even offering that the old woman should follow and live with them in her village.

sadly the old woman refused the gesture, giving Gonzo's mother the cold shoulder as she glared at the distance of the cliff enjoying the view of the beautiful arrangements of mountains at the horizon, continuously turning a deaf ear to her pleads.

Letting out a "sigh" she gave up all attempts and turned towards the opposite direction setting up a mat where she would lye upon and sunset.

Finally the sun's rays grew dimmer, it's presence slowly elapsed taking all it's warmth along as it fell into the distance making way for cold and uncertainties of the night as the moon slowly arose from it's long slumber.

"It's time for us to leave" she said softly with a smirk on her face whilst lying down on the mat gently stroking the hairs on sleeping Gonzo's head.

She went to the room of the old woman but found her deep in sleep. With no intentions of waking her up she crept out the door without uttering a word except for a gentle "Thank you"she whispered as she closed the door behind her gently.

Carrying no belongings except for Gonzo at her back she descended into the dead woods which echoed with the orchestral chirps of the crickets and insects creeping with the bush and grasses.

"Hold on!" Suddenly the orchestral chirps of insects was disturbed by a loud yet distorting voice that echoed from the distance of the opposite direction .

"Huff Huff Huff"

"I can't believe you were leaving without saying goodbye" the old woman asked as she continued panting incessantly, trying to gasp in a breath of air.

"Madam! Did you run all the way after me?"

"Well not exactly. I went out for a stroll and decided accompany you on your way out"

Unable to control her emotions Gonzo's mother let out a slight snicker as she found the old womans lie amusing especially with how her eyes always wondered aimlessly whenever she was being dishonest.

Despite how obvious the lie was she continued to play along, placing her left hand softly on the old womans shoulder

"Now that you're here, let's go"

Hearing this made her drop her stare lower making all her wrinkles expand when she squeezed her face in sadness. She gently placed her long lux of hair backwards and used her hands to corres her cheeks.

"Once again I'm very sorry dear, but I can't come along with you. This forest is MY village and the mountains are my home so I can't just leave it behind and go to a foreign place"

"I understand and I'm sorry if I was compelling you in anyway you didn't like"

"It's okay though you should get going, if it gets any darker you might have to wait till morning"

"No! I'm afraid we can't do that, me and my baby need to leave here" she replied with with a saddened expression and tears slowly filling up her eyes.

The old woman was puzzled about the circumstances she was under which made her behave so strangely but never the less hoped the best for her.

Before leaving them to continue on her journey she reached into a small pocket sewn into her raggy scarf on the top left corner of her dress and brought out a small necklace with a coin dancing in the middle of the thread.

"Take this with you and I hope it will bring you as much fortune as it did me back in the day"

Reluctant to accept she enclosed the old womans hand into a fist with the necklace in between"keep it mam. It's yours and it should remain your's" she conjured"I'm sure it must hold some sort of sentimental value, doesn't it?"

Unwilling to argue the old woman let out a breif "sigh" and grew tired of arguing "I've become too old for this. Do whatever you want, Goodbye!" She spoke as she walked in the opposite direction waving as she slowly vanished into the distance beracaded by forest trees.

That was the last conversation they had and probably would ever have but Gonzo's mother decided to cherish it deeply placing her hand on her chest and squeezing it tightly.

"Goodbye Mam" she whispered underneath her breath before moving from where she left of

"It's Time to look towards the future with a smile"

A few hours passed till they were able to exit the forest completely with Gonzo's mother having a heavy heart while he continued to sleep at her back comfortably.

After many days they passed various villages and routes before finally being able to hitch a ride home from a merchant who was transporting exotic oils for his business. she pleaded to him with her hands folded together but the merchant was hesitant with the fear of his valuable goods being stolen but after a while had his heart melted by her sobbing.

After the many trials and herdals the journey brought the sun's rays began to grow brighter illuminating the shadows and uncertainties cast by the nights darkness as well as marked the end of their long journey.

"Excuse me mam! but I think we've reached your final destination"The merchant said while gently shaking her gently

Though drowsy Gonzo's mother widened her eyes a little to catch a glimpse of him but was caught of guard by the sun's light.

"Gahhh....! My eyes! My eyes!" She yelled ferociously as she reflexively jumped out of her sleeping position causing carriage to nearly loose balance on it's path

"Would you please calm down!"The merchant yelled as his vains rose throughout his face and his glare focused staring daggers at her with flames burning in his eyes.

However she returned his vicious stare with an innocently confused expression pure as snow (What's got him so worked up?)

The long journey had come to an end and the bright glow that shone on her face as she glared out the window was proof of it. Cloaked in a blanket in the carriages rear was the sleeping gonzo.

"Wake up now Gonzo" His mother spoke softly waking him up.

As Gonzo slowly awoke from his slumber he glimpsed a small light which caught his attention in a part of his mother's dress. It resemble a small coin held on a string of thread but was seemingly unknown by his mother.

With an even calmer and more tender voice she whispered softly into Gonzo's ear as he laid on the furnished wood"Rejoice my son, We're home!"
