I spent the next week trying to find a shop that could equip my Petal of Summons to my Staff. Apparently, only a few shops in the entire kingdom could work with magic items.
I traveled to a small town called Ego. It was a large city, filled with tall white towers and snobby nobles. Unlike in Spiritus city where bumping shoulders with someone was a frequent occurrence, even grazing someone here was considered assault. I decided to take the alleyways whenever I wanted to go somewhere.
The Twig of Yggdrasil hadn't bloomed since my encounter with Noir, meaning I hadn't been endangered since then. Also, the system only sent me hourly notifications that my Scarlet Bunsen Blast was fully charged and that my house did not need repairs.
"How can I help you, arcanist?" the shopkeeper asked. He was a small man with a bald head. A pair of gloves hung from his belt, as well as a hammer and a few other tools.
Arcanist. Alchemist. Wizard? Why can't these people find one word and stick to it?
"Hello," I greeted the man. Laying my staff on the counter, I told him what I wanted.
Stroking his wide belly, he nodded. "Aye. I can do that. But it'll cost ya."
"How much?" I hadn't spent much of my gold, so I hoped what I had left would cover the charge.
"Forty gold. Toss in an extra five silver and I'll throw in a dagger." he pointed to a wall on the left. Dozens of daggers and swords hing from it.
"I'll just do the forty gold." I said. I'd still have nine hundred gold left.
The shopkeeper shrugged. Taking my staff and the petal, he walked into the back of his store. He shouted from the back, "It'll take an hour or so, so feel free to browse my shop."
There were a few grimoires, ancient tomes, staffs and wands.
A few wands had the same ribbon that was on Noir's. The wall of daggers were the only weapons. Each of them had a prismatic shimmer to them. They must have been enchanted.
There was also a wall for mage robes. Most of them were overpriced, but I found a suit that piqued my interest.
It was a dull red shawl over a white button up with baggy pants. The trousers were the same material as the shawl, a velvet material with gold trim. The button on the pants was an eclipse, a moon with droopy eyelids over a wide eyed sun. It read:
"Enchanted with elemental resistance and magic attack resistance, this costume will make you the best dressed combat mags for miles. Cost: 150 silver"
"Just seventy five gold!" i exclaimed. I promised I wouldn't spend as much money, but the costume was so nice! And it had resistances!
"I can do that one for fifty gold if you take it off my shelf today." The shopkeep laid my staff on the counter.
"Is there something wrong with it?"
He shook his head. "The arcanists around here think using defense magic makes you weak. According to them, protecting yourself is emasculating." the shopkeep snorted. "Can you believe a nobleman's son told me that?"
"No, I can't. You think a prissy noble would want to be protected."
We laughed for a moment. I took my staff in hand. The shopkeeper didn't notice I had opened the system.
According to the Twig's menu, I could use the Petal of Sealing three times a day.
"Thank you,'' I slid the shopkeep his payment for both the Twig and the costume.
"You're welcome, kid. Come back anytime." I left the store and headed home.
