Chapter 11 - Burned Alive?

I came across a few demons, often called homunculi.

A fox-like man emerged from the tall grass. His lower half was the top half of a fox, while his upper half was human. It was the most horrifying thing I'd seen.

The fox legs supported the full weight of the hybrid, the fox half snarling at me as the black eyed demon spoke to me. "You are the wyrm forged who killed my brethren! I can smell their blood on you from miles away!"

Without talking anymore, it attacked. Bending its fox legs, it leapt at me. I stepped just out of range from the fox, narrowly avoiding its fangs from ripping into my shins. The upper half of the body swung forward and swiped at me. I tried to dodge, but I moved into the attack instead of out of it.

My body was sent back ten feet. I lay sprawled in the grass for a moment.

I could hear the footsteps of the homunculi in the tall grass. The nose of the fox sniffed the grass around me. When it found me, its lips pulled back in a snarl.

Rolling out of range, the human half toppled and tried to drop an elbow on me.

Grabbing my staff, I fired a Bunsen blast at it. The fox half melted instantly. I kept firing the blast, splitting the homunculi in half. The demon fell in two slivers.

A second demon circled over me. Red skin and black raven wings. It dove at me with its talons. Before it could, I blasted it. Feathers were tossed in the air; the stench of chemicals filled the air.

My attack had barely cooled down before a third demon attacked me. Its lizard face opened to reveal a hungry pink tentacle inside its split skull. Clicking two organs in its mouth, it lit the chemicals in the air into a sea of flames.

Red clouds of heat consumed me, burning the grass around me.
