Cappuccino entered the bar, observing everything around him.
A boy was sitting in a chair with an empty seat beside him, so Cappuccino took a seat.
"So, you're the hero of the town today, huh?" Cappuccino said sarcastically.
The boy remained silent.
"Not much of a talker, are you?"
"I heard everything you said back there," the boy replied.
Cappuccino turned his head toward him.
"You said you're going to save this town from now on."
"Yeah, I said that."
"I'm curious," the boy continued.
Cappuccino stared at him.
"Why did the government suddenly change the detective, and why did they choose you? You can give a speech like a hero all you want, but I don't trust you to protect this town. What are you up to?"
"Whoa, whoa, too many questions at once! Okay, I'll answer."
An old man served them drinks.
"My father was born in this town, so I have sentimental ties to it, even though my main motive isn't to save it."
"What?!" The boy looked a little shocked.
"Yeah," Cappuccino said as he took a sip of his beer. "I want to save the town, but that's not my main motive. You know we're in the old town, but it's not the only one in the Silky District. There are 25 towns in the overall district, and I want to save all of them," Cappuccino said, his voice a little emotional.
"That's not your job, you know," the boy replied while drinking.
"Saving the people of the town isn't your job either."
"Hmmm! You got me there," the boy said with a slight smile.
"That's why I'm going to give you this." Cappuccino slid a folded paper across the table to the boy.
"What's this?"
"Take a look for yourself."
"I won't take that until you tell me what you want."
"Okay then. I know you're going to fight the other two Peter brothers. The paper has information about them."
"Why are you giving me that?"
"You and I have the same motive. I don't have the power to beat them, and even if I did, the government wouldn't let me. So, that's why I'm asking you to work with me to take them down together."
"What if I decline your offer?"
"Then I'll have to arrest you."
"For trying to save the people?"
"I think so."
The bar suddenly fell silent.
Cappuccino attempted to place his gun against the boy's head to threaten him, but the boy grabbed Cappuccino's wrist and twisted it, causing the gun to fall. He then forced Cappuccino down onto the table and held his pistol under Cappuccino's jaw.
"I wasn't expecting this much from the kid who beat Bitts," Cappuccino said.
"You know that buffalo?"
Cappuccino laughed loudly.
"Buffalo, huh? Nice name, kid. He and I were in the same department before he retired. But I didn't expect him to join the Comboy gang. Good old memories."
Sighs.
The boy released Cappuccino and took the paper.
He walked toward the exit door.
"Listen, I won't work with you, and I won't take your orders. I value my freedom, but I believe leaving the town to you might be the best idea. What do you say, Mr...."
"Cappuccino."
"Yeah, Mr. Cappuccino. Hey, old man, I'm taking my leave." The boy exited the bar.
"Hey, wait!" The old man followed him, as did Cappuccino.
"Hey, kid!"
The boy was already mounted on his horse.
"Once again, thank you so much for everything. I won't forget this."
"I already told you, old man, it's not a big deal. Next time I come here, you better give me the same cocktail, okay?"
"Yeah," the old man replied, seeming happy.
"Be careful out there, kid."
The boy turned his horse to face Cappuccino.
"Beating the Peter brothers isn't easy. You'll need a team to take them down," Cappuccino said.
"I don't need anybody. I can beat them on my own."
He got ready to ride away.
"Hey, kid!"
"What is it, old man?"
"You didn't even tell me your name."
"Yeah, what's your name?" Cappuccino asked.
The boy smiled.
"I'm the man who's going to beat John Hardin and become the greatest gunslinger. My name is David Colt," he said with full confidence and joy.
"Okay then, bye, you people. Bye, old man."
He rode off, waving goodbye to everyone.
People happily waved back.
Cappuccino watched him leave.
David Colt, huh? That name sounds familiar...
