As I stood there, gazing into Liam's innocent eyes, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. We were finally together again, and nothing could ever tear us apart.
But as I looked around, I realized that we weren't alone. Maya was watching us, a small smile on her face.
"Thank you," I mouthed to her, my voice barely audible.
Maya nodded, her eyes shining with tears.
I turned back to Liam, who was looking up at me with wide eyes.
"Mummy, what's happening?" he asked, his voice trembling.
I took a deep breath, trying to think of a way to explain everything.
"We're going to be okay, baby," I said finally. "We're going to go somewhere safe, just the two of us."
Liam nodded, his eyes still wide with fear.
I scooped him up in my arms, holding him tightly.
As we walked away from the private airport, I knew that we still had a long way to go.
But for now, we were together. And that's all that mattered.
