I hailed a taxi to my father's house, hoping to escape the tension that had been building between Priscoll and me. I didn't want my parents to think I had come home because of our fight, so I tried to compose myself as I stepped out of the taxi.
As I approached the entrance door, my mom's surprised face greeted me.
"Baby, are you okay?" she asked, concern etched on her face.
I stared at her, unsure of how to respond. "Yeah, I'm fine, Mom. I just miss you guys so much," I said finally, my voice barely above a whisper.
My mom's expression softened, and she welcomed me in.
"Come in, your dad is not home, he traveled," she said, her tone matter-of-fact.
I smiled and followed her inside, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. I told my mom that I would stay with them for a while, and she asked me why. I explained that Priscoll had gone on a business trip, and she nodded understandingly.
