Months had passed since I took care of Michael. I had grown attached to the little boy, but my life as a flight attendant was about to get busy again. As I prepared for her upcoming schedule, I realized I needed to find a reliable babysitter for Michael.
I sat at my kitchen table, scrolling through my phone for babysitting services in the area. Michael played with his toys on the floor, oblivious to the plans being made for him.
"Okay, little one," I said,
"Mommy has to go to work soon, and I need to find someone to take care of you."
I made a few phone calls and sent some messages, finally finding a highly-recommended babysitter in the neighborhood. I felt a sense of relief wash over me, knowing that Michael would be in good hands while I was away.
But just as she was about to finalize the arrangements, the doorbell rang. It was Sarah, standing at the door with a mix of emotions on her face.
I stepped aside, allowing Sarah to enter.
