Eve was sitting in her office at the Knight Company, her thoughts still lingering on her anger with Alex and the recent events at work. She wore a sleek navy blue blazer over a white blouse, paired with a pencil skirt and heels. Just as she was about to dive into a report, her phone buzzed. It was Claire.
With a reluctant sigh, Eve answered the call. "Claire, what is it?"
"Eve, we need to talk. It's urgent," Claire's voice was strained with worry. "Can we meet up somewhere?"
"What's going on?" Eve asked, her curiosity piqued despite herself.
"It's about the Sinclair Estate. I feel like mother is about to make a terrible decision," Claire's voice was desperate. "Please, Eve. We need to meet.
Eve agreed, albeit reluctantly, and they decided to meet at a café close to her office. When she arrived, Claire was already there, her face pale and drawn. She was dressed in a simple green dress, her hair pulled back in a loose ponytail.
"Eve, thank you for coming," Claire said as Eve sat down across from her.
"Just get to the point, Claire," Eve replied, not in the mood for pleasantries.
Claire took a deep breath. "Victoria is planning to sell a significant portion of the Sinclair Estate to a foreign investor. She thinks it will bring in more revenue, but I believe it's a terrible idea. This estate is our legacy, your father's legacy."
Eve felt a pang of anger. "And what do you expect me to do about it, Claire? I'm not involved in the Sinclair Estate anymore. That's your battle to fight."
Claire's eyes filled with tears. "Please, Eve. I know you're upset, but you're the only one who can talk sense into Victoria. She respects you, even if she doesn't show it. Please, let's save the estate."
Eve shook her head, her heart heavy. "I don't care what happens to the estate anymore, Claire. I have my own life to worry about."
"But you do care, Eve," Claire whispered. "I know you do. Think about your father and all the hard work he put into it. He wouldn't want to see it torn apart."
Eve stood up, her expression stony. "I'm sorry, Claire. I can't help you." She walked away, leaving Claire sitting there.
As Eve returned home that evening, her mind was a whirlwind of emotions. She changed into more comfortable attire—leggings and a cozy sweater—and sat on her couch, trying to relax. But her thoughts kept drifting back to Claire's words and the image of her father's tireless dedication to the Sinclair Estate. She remembered the long hours he had put in, the sacrifices he had made. The estate had been his life's work, and he had poured his heart and soul into it.
Eve's eyes welled up with tears. She couldn't bear the thought of seeing her father's legacy dismantled. She couldn't let Aunt Victoria make such a drastic decision without at least trying to intervene. But what could she do? She had distanced herself from the estate and her family, and stepping back in now would be complicated.
Eve buried her face in her hands, feeling the weight of responsibility pressing down on her. She knew she had to do something, but she was torn between her desire to move on with her life and her deep-rooted connection to the Sinclair Estate.
The next day at work, Eve arrived looking composed in a crisp white blouse and black trousers, her hair pulled back into a neat bun. Despite her outward appearance, her mind was buzzing with thoughts about the Sinclair Estate. She had spent hours the previous night researching the shares that the Knight Company owned in Sinclair Estates. She needed to understand how much influence the Knights had and whether she could leverage it to save her family's legacy.
Determined to get some answers, she decided to speak with Daniel Brooks, the head of luxury real estate development at the Knight Company. She found him in his office, dressed in a sharp grey suit, his salt-and-pepper hair perfectly styled.
"Daniel, do you have a moment?" she asked, trying to keep her voice casual.
"Of course, Eve. Come in," Daniel replied, gesturing for her to take a seat.
Eve sat down and took a deep breath. "I have a hypothetical question for you. If the Knight Company holds significant shares in a real estate venture, can we influence decisions made by that venture?"
Daniel leaned back in his chair, considering her question. "It depends on the specifics of the situation, but generally speaking, if we hold a substantial amount of shares, we do have some influence. However, any major decisions would typically need to be approved by Alex, given his role as CEO."
Eve nodded, her mind racing. "I see. Thank you, Daniel. That's very helpful."
As she left Daniel's office, Eve felt a glimmer of hope. She now had a potential avenue to pursue, but it would require Alex's cooperation. She needed to find a way to convince him to help her save the Sinclair Estate.
Eve took a deep breath before knocking on Alex's office door.
Alex looked up from his desk, his surprise evident when he saw Eve standing in the doorway. "Eve, come in," he said, gesturing to the seat in front of him. He was dressed in a crisp white shirt with the sleeves rolled up.
Eve sat down, maintaining her composure. "I need to talk to you, Alex."
Before he could respond, the door opened again, and Robert walked in. He was impeccably dressed in a tailored navy suit. "Eve, how are you doing?" he asked warmly. "Welcome to the family. I was wondering why you didn't honor my dinner invitation."
Alex started to explain, but Eve cut him off. "I apologize for missing the dinner, Mr. Knight. I will be there tonight."
Robert smiled, clearly pleased. "Good, I look forward to seeing you both tonight." With that, he left the office.
Alex turned back to Eve, his expression a mix of gratitude and confusion. "Thank you, Eve. I deeply appreciate this."
Eve held up a hand to stop him. "I didn't do it for you, Alex. I have some conditions, and I need you to meet them. We'll discuss it after dinner." She stood up and walked out of the office, leaving Alex perplexed and anxious about what she might demand.
