Chapter 10
"Who are you..?"
"My names Hinami and I live next door. And you two were very loud!"
"W-We're sorry about that! We'll try to keep the noise down right Sora?"
"Yeah sure.."
"Good shut up and keep it that way!" Sora closes the door and sighs to herself not knowing what to do about the situation.
"I suppose we have to start being quieter Ayane.."
"Okay!" Ayane walks into her bedroom and starts redesigning the entire room.
"Wait, what are you doing Ayane?.. Don't you like your room..?"
"Yes I suppose but I want it to look.. Like my style!"
"So you want your room to look like what I did with my room?.."
"Yes! Exactly!" Ayane continues moving her bed. There wasn't really anything else to move, Ayane after all didn't have a lot of stuff. All she had was a couple of pictures, some clothes on her dresser, and a cat designed trash can that she got from her sister for her eleventh birthday. She moved the dresser from the wall with the entrance of her dorm, next to the windowsill that was on the left from her bed. About an hour later she decided to take a break.
"That was a lot of work so far Ayane.."
"Yes I know!" Ayane seemed out of breath. After all who could blame her, she was re-organizing her room. She was moving things that felt as if they were ninety-three tons. Sora walks to the fridge after sitting Ayane down and grabs her a bottle of water. The bottle of water was chilling to the skin of the hand with water beads from the outside of the bottle. Sora steps in front of Ayane with an arm crossed under her chest and hands her the water bottle.
"Thank you Sora!"
"Don't overwork yourself ok..? It'd kill me to see you hurt.."
"You really care about me huh?"
"Of course I do, how could I not..?" Ayane jumps in surprise and blushes a little to the thought of her words. Hearing Sora utter those words felt a little embarrassing, but the more she stared at Sora's expression she could tell she was genuine about what she said.
"I-I think that's really sweet.. That you care so much about me Sora.."
"Of course.. If there's anything you need… anything at all… Let me know ok?.. I'll be happy to oblige.." Ayane and Sora both smiled at each other. This sweet moment was to be savored in both of their memories for quite some time.
The next day Ayane woke up completely unaware of her surroundings. She looked around to see Sora wasn't there. She walked to the refrigerator. There was a piece of paper with a note on the door which read: "Hey it's Sora today's Monday but you weren't waking up.. So I left you some breakfast in the fridge have a nice sleep.."
'Today's Monday?' Ayane thought. she had a concentrated face expression. 'Should I go to school? Even though it's–' Ayane looked at the time. It was still 8:34. She had time to make it to school still. She quickly got dressed and accidentally grabbed a small pinto box without looking. Quickly she put on her shoes and heads out of the door.
Ayane was walking the pathway to her second class. She missed her first class, so she went to her second one earlier than normal. She waited by the building doors and sat on the cement next to the opening doors of the computer science building. She sat there for a while looking at the ground picking the grass. She was reminded as she sat there, she realized just how alone she felt.
In a world full of pain, only a few can really make you feel complete. That was Sora's mindset. She just hadn't found the right person to make her feel that way. Until Ayane showed up. Sora could vividly remember the first time she saw Ayane's face. She didn't think much of her until she started to spend time with her, but, she'd be lying to herself if she said Ayane didn't catch her eye. Sora walked through the doors single file after being ordered out by Mrs. Sakura. One person went away with their dorm partner after another. Then before she knew it, Ayane and Sora were face-to-face. Sora's eyes glistened as she stared at Ayane, feeling a bit nervous at first. Ayane stutters caught Sora by complete surprise.
Reminiscing back on these memories Sora snapped back into consciousness. Staring at the sky through the window next to her seat. She looked down and saw Ayane sitting on the ground from the second floor of the building she was in. Picking the grass. 'A bit odd' she thought. But it was Ayane. She's done a lot of odd things. She's not upset, is she? Whatever the case, she made a promise. She cannot let Ayane go without being safe or feeling upset. Sora, watching Ayane look upset, began to feel upset herself.
"Oooohhh~ Who ya lookin at Soraaa~" Sora jumped at hearing the voice next to her, apparently the bells rang as she was snapped back out of consciousness looking at Ayane. She looked at the person whom's voice was calling her name. It was a girl named Rikai. She had black hair and yellow eyes, sort of like a cat.
"O-Oh nothing.."
"Are you sureeee~"
"Y-Yes I'm sure…" Sora looked quickly back at the spot where Ayane was, and she was gone. Almost as if she had vanished into thin air.
"Aww dammit.." Sora said, Rekai gasped.
"You were looking at someone!~ Who was it?! Was he nice!? Does he smell good?! Doe—"
"Actually Rekai… It's a girl.." Sora puts a hand under her cheek and rests her head on it, as if she were daydreaming.
"That was certainly unexpected Sora– I never sought you out to be the type to like a girl"
"Yeah me either.. But there's just something about her that.. Keeps me going ya know.."
"Yeah me and Cori were like that at one point"
"I really.. Like this girl.. And comes to find out her older sister happens to be my inspiration for writing books in the first place…"
"I see that must have been very eventful."
"Yeah somewhat– More shocking than anything else though…"
Rekai looks at Sora with awe. She's the second girl in the school who has a crush on a girl. To be courageous enough to try it was beyond her expectations. Sora looks back at the window, and then stands up. Sora grabs her bag, Rekai does the same. They both walk out of the classroom Rekai in front of Sora. Sora gives one last glance at the window, knowing someone knows her secret about her liking a girl. But at least Rekai didn't know who the person was. She didn't tell Rekai that on purpose. Sora wanted to be the one to announce it to Ayane. Rejection didn't matter to her, but all the feelings Sora had bottled up inside, had to come out.
Ayane sat in class typing out her given assignment. All she could think about was Sora. No matter what she did to clear her head or connect it to something else. It was always about Sora. Ayane went on break with a couple other people, and she looked in the mirror when she got into the bathroom. But on two opposite sides of the campus, their hearts were somehow connected.
Ayane: "Sora…"
Sora: "Ayane…"
Both of them: "How am I supposed to tell you that… I love you if I'm too nervous to tell you…" They both said in unison.
