Dune and Lace emerged from the room, facing a daunting staircase that spiraled upward. "Are you sure this is the way out?" Dune asked.
Lace gave a resolute nod. "Yes"
"What's your real name?" Dune pressed.
"Devour," Lace replied, the name slipping from her lips with an oddly detached finality.
"Devour? That's... unusual."
Before Lace could respond, a low, menacing rumble filled the air. "The water's almost here. We need to move!"
Dune glanced back, "damn it!" seeing the black water surging toward them with alarming speed. "Damn it!" he cursed under his breath.
In a swift motion, he wrapped himself in the mummy's shroud and ascended rapidly, his heart pounding as the rising tide threatened to engulf them.
Dune and Lace charged up the spiraling staircase, the thunderous roar of the encroaching water echoing through the cavern. "Is this our escape?" Dune yelled over the din.
