Chapter 40 - A New Future

"Why would you do such a thing without at least asking me?" Dharen yelled at her.

Renna just looked at him feeling surprised at his sudden outburst.

"Dharen, I.." She tried to speak but was soon interrupted once again by Dharen.

"No Renna. You do not get to say anything. You could have at least spoken to me first, before sending any kind of message. But instead you just did it without bothering to ask me a thing." As he spoke, Dharen's voice became more and more quiet.

Renna just gave up talking as she realised she had hurt him. She had believed he would want to get to safety but instead, well she had gotten it completely wrong.

Dharen looked at her for a few moments. His heart truly did ache for how he was talking to her, but he also had a plan. And that required him to stay here and prepare himself. He did not want to be outside just yet.

"I am going to my room, to think."

He soon walked off, leaving Renna alone as she looked at the ground, tears silently falling from her eyes. The professors who had come with her did not say anything but the one who had spoken about the sword followed Dharen to make sure that he was safe.

This professor, though, did not simply want to follow him from a distance and sped up so he was walking side by side with Dharen, who had glanced at the Professor before focusing on the road once again.

The Professor soon broke the silence with a question. "Dharen, can I ask you a question?"

Dharen just nodded his head.

"Well you see, I have a fascination with historical artefacts, so do you mind if I tell you about one of the users of this sword in the past?"

His words sparked Dharen's interest a little, who just nodded his head at the Professor.

"So as I mentioned earlier, there were two people who used this sword in the Chaos age who were not part of your clan. One is only remembered as the Slayer, the Second is more well remembered. His name was Adoh the Demon's Bane."

Hearing their titles, Dharen felt impressed. Both must have done a lot in their time.

"Adoh, is one of my favourites in the history of the Imperium. He is one of the few Heroes in their history. At this point in history, it was at the peak of the first Chaos War. The Imperium was barely existing at this point, its core territory had been lost to demon-kind, due to a rift in there capital and a lot of the outer territory was under warlords from the Clan's or it had simply rebelled."

He then stopped looking at Dharen's face as they walked, a little unsure if he should say more or not.

"Well, he had joined the military and seen what we assume was his friends be killed before he was recruited into a secret military faction which I think was a part of the Shadow Clan at the time. Not that I can be sure, anyway he lost nearly everything in this time, his brother to the Clan's and his lover lost her life to a Demon. In the end, he became the Bane of Demons and he closed the Rift and allowed the Imperium to be restored."

His story, although having been heavily summarised, was interesting to Dharen, as he began to slowly release the history that this sword had.

"What I am trying to point out to you is that it is not simply a sword. It is a legacy and an icon in many ways. It will rally people to you, but also give you more obstacles." The Professor then went quiet as the two carried on walking right up to Dharen's room.

Dharen, who was entering the room, heard the Professor speak once more. "Good luck Dharen, and Renna was right. You should leave, it will not be safe here for you."

Dharen turned to look at the Professor, his eyes showing his deep and complicated emotions. "I know she is right, sir. Just I did not want to leave unless I was graduating."

The professor just nodded his head as he heard Dharen's words. Understanding how he felt completely.

Then the two split up, Dharen entering into his room, while the Professor left to go and handle whatever task that he had to do next.

Inside of his room, Dharen found Jason. The two looked at each other for a moment before Dharen just sighed and looked away moving into the washroom, to make sure that he could wash all of the blood on himself away.

Jason did not say anything as he just watched Dharen go on with his business. In fact Jason was doing nothing at all.

Just sitting there on his own bed. His assigned sword lay on his lap. His eyes though were empty. As if his soul had vanished.

Dharen had not noticed any of this as he carried on with his wash.

Once he left the washroom however, some light had finally returned to Jason's eyes. Dharen, though could not see this, as his back was turned but then again he also did not want to see it.

Truly he did not know what to do about Jason, to him what Jason had done was far worse than the actions of Renna. In some senses it was comical really both of his friends had hurt him today, both and betrayed his trust for no reason at all.

Jason then finally spoke, "Dharen. I am Jason of the house Swifttide. A member of the nona-city alliance. I…for my actions I swear to aid and serve you to the best of my ability and my des-"

Hearing his words, Dharen had turned and silenced Jason.

"I do not wish for your descendants or your oath Jason. You are or at least you were my friend and you left me alone."

Jason heard his cold voice and shivered a little.

"It does not matter, I swear it on my own Gods. I will fulfil my oath, I am bound to you now. I just hope I will become your friend again."

Dharen only sighed as he once more turned around.
