"Oh Professor, I am sorry for that, I did not see you there at all," Dharen laughed awkwardly.
The Professor just looked at him and smiled a little, a soft glint of light in his eyes as he looked at Dharen.
"Well, I guess I will not be taking offence to that, but still what were you doing in that room all alone?" He asked, although Dharen felt that he already did know the answer as it would have been impossible to miss Reenna leave through the corridor.
"Well Professor, I was getting a lesson on the Dragon-Kin by Renna, it seems like she intends on doing one every single night now until I have a full understanding of everything that occurs and is going on with the Dragon-Kin." Dharen explained politely.
The Professor just nodded his head. Then smiling softly, "Well if that is the case, it should be fine. Can you follow me for a moment?"
Even though he asked the question, making it seem like he had a choice, Dharen felt that if he had said no, well it would be best not to think what would happen if he had said no. He just did not want to cross the Professor for any reason,
The Professor took him through the school building before the two of them arrived at his office. Inside Dharen was surprised as it was something that he had not expected to look at all.
The walls were covered in what looked like old battle maps of different types, some looked to be more recent but some of them gave off the impression that they were ancient. On one wall was a bookshelf, covered in books fully, some being thin and others extremely thick.
The desk of the Professor though, was extremely empty unlike how he had directed his office. Well, that is plain aside from the short sword that was on the desk, being held up by some stands. It, like the maps on the walls, looked old although there was not much rust, showing that it had been cared for a lot by the owner, the Professor presumably.
"Take a seat then Dharen, I want to tell you some things that I do not believe that Renna or any of the other Dragon-Kin here will mention due to, well, their own past."
Feeling curious, Dharen quickly sat down, earning him a beaumused chuckle from the Professor, who had since he had first met him not long ago, found this Dragon-Kin different and far more interesting than any of the others that he had met.
"So Dharen, what I want to tell you is the truth of what happened when the Imperium… The Second Imperium collapsed in on itself."
Hearing his words, Dharen looked at him surprised and wondered at why he thought that such an important thing would not be told to him by the other Dragon-Kin. His thoughts though were not heard this time as the Professor carried on his own personal lecture on this bit of history.
"So the Imperium had been falling apart for a while at this point, unlike what most say, the Dragon-Kin at the top. Had become stagnant, arrogant and full of pride. The new faiths that had sprung up all over the Imperium were growing in strength and had begun to clash with the traditional faith of the Imperium."
Dharen hearing of this could not help but think of the rise of christianity and how that had affected the then Roman Empire or that of the Rise of Islam both faiths having changed the world in many ways.
"Professor, I did not realise people still worshipped God."
The Professor just gazed at him annoyed at the interpretation, "It is Gods, with the s. And secondly of course we worship them, they are very real beings. Many times there avatars have come down or up depending on the church and rained living hell on this world, or in the rare case given many blessings to the beings of this world."
Hearing his words, Dharen fell into silence and shock. He did not know what to say to this at how the Gods as he had been told, were real and had been interacted with. Though they did not seem to be the kind of God or well Gods that he had been taught about. They seemed to be far more warlike and aggressive compared to what he thought they should have been.
"Now, the Imperium was decadent but its military was still powerful as ever. This is why the churches and their followers had been kept in line. You have to remember there were many Dragon-Kin then, and the human populace was well more loyal to the Imperium that had been ruling over them for multiple generations at this point."
Dharen just nodded his head, urging for the Professor to go on, as he had not learned or ever heard of any information like this before as the talks on recent history were not really common in the classes or in the lessons that Renna was giving him.
"Then the Orcish Empire suddenly happened, no one to this day knows what happened, but all of the Orcs were suddenly united when the steam rolled the unprepared western forces and burst through the central mountain range into what was the central province of the Imperium. That is to the north of us, past the great river."
Hearing about Orcs, took Dharens attention more so, he had just thought that there were only humans and the humanoid races like the Dragon-Kin in this world, as well as the Dragons themselves, but clearly this was not the case at all.
"The invasion of the Orcs led to the armies of the south being recalled to the capital to mount a defence and beat the Orcs. From what we know they lost and none of them came back, nor did any of the higher ranked Dragon-Kin clans who had gone north with there own personal troops. This led to open rebellion in the south and the slaughter of any Dragon-Kin was found."
Hearing this, Dharen visibly shook, and what appeared to be a genocide.
"The remaining Dragon-Kin fled to the plateau region, where some old military forts stood and there they have held and existed for a long time, with the remnants of the holy army forming the Inquisition, who hunt down any Dragon-Kin that they find. That is it in short, now go and rest. It is my class tomorrow."
Dharen being shooed away, soon found himself back in his room, with Jason sound asleep. He kept thinking back on all that he had been told today, and it really did seem like his life would be hopeless.
