Chapter 16 - Pain And More Pain

The yell to begin had started his misery.

The moment that she had heard the yell, Renna lunged forwards with her sword trying to run him through.

Shocked and surprised at the aggressive play, Dharen sidestepped the lunge intent on swinging his sword down onto her head, only to find that she was already making her next to attack, the lunge had morphed into a vicious upwards slash.

Hastily Dharen was able to block the move, leading to the wooden swords clashing with a loud crack. The clash numbing Dharens hands, with the force that was behind it, but still the two of them did not stop moving around, the blades constantly clashing, although Dharen had found that aside from a few times he was purely on the defensive, and it did not seem like Renna would be slowing down any time soon.

Knowing that he had to launch his own attacks, or he would eventually lose as they fought to who hit first. That hit though having to be on the body or the head, effectively a killing move.

Watching carefully this time, he saw Renna's blade come forwards for a sharp thrust, taking a deep breath he tried to knock her blade aside, which had come as a huge surprise for him, after that though he went on his own offensive.

His blade almost danced with hers, as he pulled off a continuous stream of slashes, and thrusts. These attacks were all blocked without fail, though to his slight happiness, Dharen had found that Renna was now grimacing it looking as if she was struggling with his continuous attacks.

Seeing another opening, he lunged forwards this time, putting all of his body weight behind this attack, making it far quicker and harder compared to anything that he had put into this so far.

"You messed up Dharen…"

Hearing Renna's voice surprised him, but it was soon followed to his astoundment, by her knocking his sword out of his hands, it clattering to the floor. Before he could even mutter any words of surrender or that he had given up.

Her blade smashed into his knee, shortly followed by it hitting into his gut hard.

Feeling all of the wind being knocked out of him, Dharen slowly fell towards the floor. His mind and body soon begin to be overwhelmed by pain.

Groaning loudly, he found himself in the sandy dirt that made up the floor of the grounds of which they had been training on, as he lay there alone however he knew one thing, that being he had truly enjoyed their fight that they just had, had.

His thoughts were soon interrupted however, as sound seemed to return to his ears, from the previous blank noise that had been there before.

"Dharen! Dharen! Are you ok?" Slowly looking up, the dirt falling off of his cheek as he did, he found Justin looking down at him, his face filled with concern. Renna was there, just off to the side and she was being yelled at by one of the instructors for being too hard and this was just practice. It was not any real kind of duel between the two of them.

As she was being yelled at, he saw her glancing at him from time to time, guilt covering her face. It seemed to him that she did not mean to go that far, probably like him he guessed that she had started to enjoy their fight and like him she had gotten carried away and did not mean to do as much harm as she had done.

Justin then grabbed his arm, and helped him back to his feet, while he spoke. "I really did not expect to see a fight like that, not here at least. You lasted so much longer than anyone else has ever done."

Looking at Justin, he was speaking with pride, Dharen could only wonder how every other person must have fared against them while they were fighting Renna. He had not seen any of them fight her, and somehow he had figured that he most likely would never see anyone fight her but him.

The other thing that was nagging him though, like a tiny voice in the back of his head. Is how he could fight so well already. It was as if all of these moves had been drilled into his body before and just by practising them, he had learned how to use all of these moves that his body could do already.

"Dharen, I am sorry that I have hurt you and that I went too far." Hearing the soft voice, he looked up, and found a shy and guilty looking Renna in front of him, he was staring at the ground as she spoke, moving the sand around with her feet.

"Renna, it is fine. You do not have to worry about this. I had fun, I think you did too, so please do not be sorry. It is normal to get hurt like this." Although as he said this, he could not help but groan as the pain slowly took over his mind once more.

A good chunk of his body was feeling sore, and due to her blow on his knee, he could not really walk without any help from Justin as it seemed now.

Glancing behind her though, he caught sight of the instructor who had been scolding her, looking at the back of Reena's head. It was as if their eyes were wanting to burn their way inside to her brain.

Seeing that, Dharen realised that Renna most likely would be punished for this, that was if he did not do anything to help her.

Indicating to Justin to take him over to the instructor. Justin just nodded his head, as the two made their way over, with Renna following behind them both, looking guilty and embarrassed almost.

Once they were before the instructor, Dharen looked up and began to speak. "Ma'am, please do not do anything to punish her, she did nothing wrong."

The instructor and Justin both looked at him in shock, before a sly smile appeared onto the instructor's face. "Well I will think about that student, but for now you best go to the infirmary to make sure nothing was broken.

Nodding his head, Dharen found himself almost being dragged off by Justin.

"Oh and both of you, better come back here afterwards or there will be hell to pay!"
