"Meet me at the Luxe hotel at 7pm, room number 302. Come alone."
Sara was surprised when she got this text from an unknown number, she wondered who could be sending her such a message and also thought it was a prank.
Sara has been married to the love of her life for five years, and today was their anniversary. She hoped this occasion would bring her and Jose closer. Jose, who was Sara's husband, never had time for her; he was always engrossed in his work.
She woke up with a more energetic and happy feeling as she scanned through their wedding pictures, filled with joy as she remembered how close they used to be and pondered what might have happened. Sara had booked a reservation at their favorite restaurant to celebrate their anniversary, a promise Jose had made to take out time from his busy schedule to be there.
The text from the unknown person lingered in her head, making her confused whether to go to the hotel or to the restaurant she had booked for the anniversary celebration. She decided to brush off the feelings of the text and prepared to go to the restaurant as it was almost time.
As the clock struck 7 pm, Sara made her way to the restaurant, her heart racing with anticipation. She couldn't wait to see Jose and scanned the room, looking for him. When she approached the reserved table, Jose wasn't there yet, and she realized she was a few minutes late. She tried calling Jose, but his phone went straight to voicemail. She waited for more moments, and still, Jose wasn't there. A sense of unease crept over her; then she remembered the mysterious message from earlier that day.
"Meet me at the Luxe hotel at 7 pm, room number 302. Come alone."
Sara decided to clear her doubts, as she knew this message was connected to her husband. She picked up her bag and left the restaurant for the hotel, her heart pounding as if it wanted to fall out.
Luxe hotel was a very grand establishment built with sophistication. Sara admired its features and was eager to uncover the mystery behind everything.
"I am here to see someone," Sara said to the hotel receptionist.
"Okay. Did the people tell you his room number?" the receptionist asked.
"Yes, room number 302," Sara confirmed with her.
The receptionist directed her to the room, and Sara couldn't wait to unveil this mystery. Upon reaching the room, her hands trembled as she pushed the door to room 302 at Luxe hotel. As she entered, she couldn't believe what she saw. She was in great shock, her heart shattered into pieces, as if she had been punched in the gut.
Fiona, who was her best friend, and her husband were sitting on the bed, half-naked. Jose's arms were around Fiona, and they were laughing and whispering in her presence.
Sara couldn't bear the shock. The two people she had loved dearly were hurting her in her presence without any sense of remorse.
"Jose, Fiona, what is going on here?" Sara managed to mumble through tears clouding her eyes and a heavy throat.
"Are you insane? How dare you ask me such questions," Jose shouted, showing no regret as his face changed to anger.
"Sara, I am sorry, it's not what you think," Fiona pleaded, her face turning bright red with guilt.
Sara's eyes narrowed as she looked at Fiona and Jose with disdain.
"Not what I think, you say? You're sitting on the bed with my husband, both half-naked, caressing each other, and you sit there telling me it's not what I think? How cruel can you be? After all these years of friendship, you decided to backstab me?" Sara said, soaked in tears.
"Don't even shout at me! Is it my fault that your husband loves me more than you? Why can't you give him a child after five years of marriage?" Fiona said, switching to a new person.
"How dare you say that to me?" Sara said as she approached Fiona to give her a slap but was stopped by Jose.
"You wouldn't dare to do that. Kindly leave this room before I do to you what we both will regret," Jose said authoritatively.
"That's all you have to say, right? No remorse for your actions. There's no problem, I'll leave, but remember karma will always catch up with you," Sara said, tears rolling down her cheeks.
Sara ran out of the hotel without looking back. She had been betrayed by her own best friend and husband on their wedding anniversary, a day she had always wished would come. She couldn't wait to get home to tell her mother-in-law about all her encounters.
"Why are you looking like this?" Rita, her mother-in-law asked.
Rita had been staying with Jose and Sara since after their wedding and refused to return home despite many pleas. Rita treated Sara poorly because she hadn't given her grandchildren and always advised her son to divorce Sara.
Sara shared her turmoil with Rita, needing someone to talk to and be comforted, but Rita had different intentions.
"You deserve all that is happening to you," Rita said sternly.
"How?" Sara asked, surprised by Rita's words.
"Why wouldn't my son cheat on you? Do you have a child? After how many years of marriage and still, we haven't heard the cry of a baby in this house, and you come here crying that he is cheating on you. Jose really did the right thing, and I'll congratulate him when I see him," Rita said happily as she left the scene.
Sara was shocked by what she heard and felt like the universe was against her. Nobody was in support of her; everyone hated her, even her best friend she had trusted for years. Sara knew she was no longer welcome there, so she packed her bags and left, prepared to file for a divorce.
