Chapter 6 - It’s about time

(THIRD PERSON'S POV)

"Can you please stop that, I'm getting a head ache?" It was Beta Steele who said that to his Alpha Aztec.

Aztec had been drumming his fingers on the arm of the chair he sat on and he ignored his Beta's complaint and continued with what he was doing.

"No one asked you to stay up all night partying." Aztec said.

"I didn't know that we would have such an early assignment, your majesty." Steele said with sarcasm in his voice as his spoke.

Aztec snorted rudely but he knew that Steele was right to be cranky this morning.

Usually, Aztec would have joined in to stay up late last night after the event but last night after meeting with Rhea, he had gone to visit his sick mother and then he had retired to his chambers alone. He had not even seen Sera, the she wolf he had told to meet him after the party.

There was something about his meeting with the human that made him feel unsettled last night. It had made him go straight home feeling disappointed that he had to leave so early and anxious to be back the next morning. Which was why, he had made sure that as early as he could, he was back to see her.

"It's important to know that we expect missions anytime. This is the time we have been waiting for, for fifteen good years." Aztec said after clearing this throat.

It was not completely a lie. He wanted very much to get started with his destiny and the mission he had in mind but that was not the specific reason that he was here so early at the Late Beta Kelt's Estate.

Steele grumbled a reply and continued in his position which was him being rested back against his own chair. His head rested on his hands and his fingers gently massaged his temples.

Aztec spared him a glance and ignored his grumbled reply. It was one of the few occasions Steele was intentionally rude to his Alpha even though they were very close friends .

"What do you think is taking them so long?" Alpha Aztec asked as he began to peer around the quiet and some what dark room that he had been led to by the She Wolf of the estate, Lilith who was also the former Beta She wolf.

"I don't know, maybe they were all just asleep just like it's normal to do by this time." Steele said still having a sarcastic tone.

Aztec sighed and narrowed his eyes at his Beta.

"Okay that's enough. I think you should sharpen up now, this is an assignment." He said to his friend in his stern Alpha voice.

Steele groaned but he did straighten up his posture because he recognized his friend and Alpha's tone which meant that he was in a serious mood.

"Fine. I'll sharpen up now." Steele said as he now sat upright and woke his nerves and his sleeping wolf. Then he turned to Aztec with a surprised look on his face.

"I know that you are very serious with this mission but I never did think that you would retire so early last night." Steele said.

Aztec heard him but he did not say anything. They both knew what happened each night after the anniversary.

It was a very moving day for the Alpha and usually he looked for ways to take his mind off it. He would drown himself in as much wine as he could and fuck as many she wolves as he could.

He would most likely spend the early hours of the next morning in his wolf form as he moved through the mountains howling, barking and mourning the night which brought a cloud of darkness over him and his pack.

The night he had been waiting for his father's return and was instead met with the pitiful yet fierceful look of his father's gamma, Rowan. The night his mother's piercing scream had shattered the strength in him and made him quiver like the little wolf he was. The night that had marked the begining of his mother's unending illness and weakness.

He had spent last night with her, watching her sleep and silently swearing to her that he was going to make sure he brought out Alpha Varis from where he was and put an end to his pathetic, dark and blood thirsty life.

Alpha Aztec had truly waited for this time, from that dark and cold night.

He had wanted to immediately avenge the death of his father and trusted team but he had been given strict instructions by his father's Gamma who had told him that a destiny was to be fulfilled in order for them to win the war.

As young as he was, Aztec had been very reluctant to wait for fifteen years. He feared that it would give the Moon shade pack and the Kralins an opportunity to take over.

But Aztec was told that his father wanted their trust put in the hands of some sorcereress. With the hope he had in his late Father, Aztec had gone along with the plan.

The moon shadow pack had focused on defending itself from the evil attack of the Kralins and they never faced war with the twin pack. However , they lived in fear and restriction because they could all sense the darkness that was looming around.

Recently, Alpha Aztec could sense that the darkness was getting closer and stronger.

"My Apologies for keeping you waiting, Your majesty." Lillith's voice interrupted the Alpha's thoughts as he and his Beta now sat up to focus on the present company they had.

Aztec's eyes moved past Lillith up the figure that was following her closely behind. The person he was here to see.

Rhea.

Seeing her was refreshing. It felt like it was the first time he was seeing her all over again with her beauty putting a hold to his thoughts. He was taken aback by the purity and serenity that hee presence gave. Just like yesterday, he found himself filled with curiosity as he took in her presence.

"Well, it's about time." Aztec said with his usual cold and nonchalant voice as their eyes met.
