"Why did you argue with her?" Mary felt a strange happiness but she knew she should not feel it. He did not do it because of her. Yet, her heart shivered thinking about it.
"I did not argue with her." Ethan shrugged as he looked at the now opened door. "David is my good friend. And Ana is always precious to me. But she must know that just because I have her does not mean that I will not have other women in my life. If she wants a monogamous relationship then I am not the right person for it." That was a warning for her too.
Mary understood what he meant and nodded at once. She was not planning to monopolize him in the first place, so she did not mind his words.
The door rang again and this time the officer was there. A flash of surprise passed his eyes when he noticed her. He stood up to greet her. When Mary noticed the officer, she stood up and went to the kitchen.
Ethan smiled at the women. But the woman did not waste a second. She opened her briefcase and took out a file and passed it to her.
"Since the paper work was completed. I have placed it in my priority and as promised, I have brought the registration and license in a day." Ethan took it and started reading. His face emitted a strange sincerity and authority as he read the file.
The officer could not help but stare at him as he read the file. The details were still hard to digest but she was sure he was the person she had looked into.
"I was not expecting you to come personally." he smiled at her and extended his hands for a shake. The officer took them and smiled.
"And I have not expected you to try opening a small restaurant like that. Are you trying to make a name for yourself without depending on others?" she laughed softly. Though her face was still cold, her eyes looked much more relaxed as she smiled at him.
But Ethan only frowned.
"You are speaking as if you know me personally, officer?" he teased but in reality he wanted to know. He was still a mystery for himself since he did not know who Ethan was in reality.
"Haha! How could that be? But i would be glad to know more about you." she said with a meaningful smile and then started scanning the restaurant. "Although it was a good choice, it could still be better if you add more staff and open it on a large scale. I am sure you have funds for that. But if you still need any kind of help, just give me a call. I have written my personal number inside." She pressed the hands she was still holding and winked at him.
Under his shocked eyes, the woman left with a smile. He blinked and then stared at the file in his hands.
"That woman knew more about me than myself." he shook his head and read the file again.
He was not over excited about knowing Ethan's real identity. When the time was right, he would know about himself eventually. But if he goes and asks others who he was then others would be suspicious of him and start digging about him.
They could realize that he was not Ethan. This kind of free life was the best. He did not need to be responsible about anything and he could have fun too. Thanks to the powers the grim reaper has left for him. He felt like his life was perfect.
"Are you done?" Mary called him. She had returned with a glass of beer in her hands. He smiled at her as he took the glass. It was chilled just the way he had liked it. See that was the life he was talking about.
"Did we get the license?" She looked excited to see it. But when he passed the license to her, she read the details. Her eyes widened.
"My name?" she gasped, "why is my name there?"
He grinned when he noticed the shock on her face.
"Because you own this place. This will provide you with the security you need."
"..." she looked flustered and dumbfounded. He couldn't help but notice how her skin turned red.
"You look sensuous." he whispered, making her blink. Her face flushed again and she shook her head.
"You are already teasing me." she complained punching on his shoulders, knowing well that he would not feel it at all. "When you have still not decided when he will stay at night here. You are bad."
The way she bit her lips and looked at him with misty eyes made his Adam apple move. He smiled back at her but stopped there. His face turned serious at once.
"Mary, last night when I was packing things from the house, I got a few files you must see. I will give them to you tonight." her face looked serious too when she heard about her father. Though she had told him that she wanted their son to inherit the underworld that had belonged to her father once, she was not sure about it.
Perhaps she was too emotional last night. But he was not the only one who wanted to share something.
"Ethan, i want to talk to you about. About your family. What if they come to me and complain about my presence. They did not seem like they wanted you to be in an affair with someone like me." Ethan paused. He was going to tell her about her father who had left many properties for her and had left keys for her. But he paused when he heard about his own family.
By her face, it did not look like she was just speculating.
"You know about my family?" he asked with a cautious look on his face when she bit her lips but nodded.
"I was not trying to meddle in your affairs. But I think your wife is a jealous type." My wife? Ethan choked on his saliva and laughed but it did not look like Mary was joking.
"Who is my wife?" he could not hide the shock in his voice making her uneasy. Mary looked at them and then outside. She pointed at the Bentley parked on the other side of the restaurant. Ethan followed her gaze and noticed a car too. But there were so many of them and he did not feel any threat coming from it so he did not pay any attention to it.
"Why don't you go and ask her yourself. She has been here since the morning."
