I couldn't help but blame myself for everything that was happening. The attack, the chaos—it all felt like it was my fault somehow. If we hadn't left the castle, if it wasn't for me always acting like I was miserable, maybe none of this would be happening. Damian cared and wanted nothing but the best for me, however I couldn't help but feel like everything he does to please me always ends up backfiring one way or another.
I paced the room, my thoughts a whirlwind of guilt and fear. I wanted to see him, to be with him, but I knew that the guards outside would rather die than let me get in harm's way. There was no way they were letting me leave this room, let alone the castle, especially not in all of this chaos.
"Is there anything you need, my lady?" One of the guards inquired from the door. I could tell they were hearing the sound of me pacing up and down my room, it was probably the only reason he was asking me that question.
