I stared at Conrad with fear and curiosity in my eyes. Surely he was joking right? There was no way he would do what he had just said. The people wouldn't let him sit on the throne after such a heinous act. He was just bluffing, I managed to convince myself. However, upon looking into his eyes once more, I came to realize that the man before me was not joking one bit.
"Y..you're bluffing." I accused, but Conrad merely laughed at me. He knew very well that I could see the seriousness behind the words he had just said, and he was mocking me for trying to convince myself otherwise.
"Believe what you want, Hayley, but I'm only telling you the truth." Conrad replied as he approached me and began unlocking the chains that bound me to the chair. "Since this might be your last hours, I'll give you the privilege of spending it as a free being. You've been a slave your whole life, spending your last hours as a slave wouldn't be nice now, would it?"
