Kristie ordered Barbara to stay behind while she inspected the area around the house. Barbara waited by the field, her anxiety rising. The breeze rustled the crops' leaves, and the sun hung high in the sky. Hearing a soft swirling sound, she turned to see Kristie standing by her side.
"The area inside is clear," Kristie said, her voice low. "However, there are sounds of fighting further ahead, so the guards won't be paying attention to this side. Let's go." She motioned for Barbara to follow.
Barbara kept a close distance behind her, ready to react. If Kristie signalled to stop, hide, or run, she would obey. As they slipped into the house, they moved cautiously, always alert for any danger. Suddenly, a group of men ran through the hallways.
"Faster! We can't let those intruders rescue the boy!" one of them shouted.
Barbara pressed herself against the wall, holding her breath until their footsteps faded.
"From here," Kristie whispered.
