Second day, Larry go to the Empire Group.
Looking at the grand office building of Empire Group, Larry felt deeply moved.
He had a long history with Empire Group, the largest real estate company in New York, which had many construction teams under its umbrella. Years ago, Larry had come here to demand his unpaid wages but was thrown out by the security guards. Now, he was the president of Empire Group. How ironic.
"Stop! What are you doing here?"
The head of security appeared with two men, shouting.
As they got closer and recognized Larry, their faces showed disdain. "It's you again. Get out of here, and don't stand around being an eyesore."
Larry gave a wry smile. "I'm not here to demand my wages."
The head of security looked him up and down, suspiciously. "If you're not here for your wages, are you looking for a job?"
Just then, an abrupt, nasal voice rang out, "Who's looking for a job?"
The head of security turned, immediately standing at attention and saluting. "Good morning, Manager! This man is looking for a job."
Eric, dressed in a stylish black suit, looked upset. Already in a bad mood, he berated the head of security, "I specifically emphasized this morning that the new company president is arriving tomorrow. We need to maintain the company's image. How could you let anyone come in looking for a job?"
The head of security kept his head down, not daring to speak. Eric, the HR manager, was known for his temper and was not to be provoked.
Eric's gaze fell on Larry, and after a few seconds of recognition, he sneered, "Larry?"
"Eric!"
Larry realized that Eric was the HR manager of Empire Group! It was indeed a small world.
Eric, already looking to vent his anger, saw Larry as the perfect target. He pretended to pinch his nose in disdain, mocking, "Oh! No wonder it smells in here. A stray dog has wandered in!"
Larry frowned slightly. "Watch your mouth!"
Eric sneered, "Do you know where you are? How dare you speak to me like that?"
"This is Empire Group. So what?" Larry replied.
Eric crossed his arms and ordered the head of security, "Tell him who I am."
The head of security straightened up and solemnly introduced, "This is our HR manager, who oversees all employee positions in Empire Group!"
Eric nodded in satisfaction. "Hear that? Without my approval, you won't get a job here. After all, this isn't a place for trash."
"Oh…" Larry replied, nodding thoughtfully. "That's quite an important position."
"Glad you understand!"
Eric, with a sly look in his eyes, pretended to be heartbroken and said to the surrounding security guards, "You might laugh, but this was my high school basketball teammate. He was a troublemaker with no ambition. As the team captain, I looked after him for years, but he never changed. Look at the difference in our statuses now. It's truly heartbreaking!"
The head of security immediately chimed in, "Manager, you've always been kind-hearted. It's his fault for not appreciating it. He deserves it!"
Eric nodded, then earnestly said to Larry, "You've ended up like this because of your own doing. Honestly, I didn't want to interfere, but since you've come here, I can't just stand by. There's a janitor position available, cleaning the toilets. It pays two thousand dollars a month. It's a job that's perfect for you!"
The head of security and his lackeys clapped and praised, "Manager, you're so righteous!"
Larry, his face darkened, realized that he didn't know this Eric at all. Eric was obviously mocking him and being hypocritical about it.
Eric glanced at his watch and told the head of security, "I have something to attend to. Take good care of my old classmate!"
The head of security, catching the hint, replied, "Understood!"
Eric walked away with a self-important stride, not looking back at Larry.
Watching Eric leave, Larry smiled faintly, deep in thought.
At this moment, a Toyota stopped at the company entrance. Out stepped a man with a gold chain, chewing on a toothpick with a cocky demeanor.
"Well, well! Isn't it Larry? What are you doing here?"
It was Kevin, the brother of Larry's ex-girlfriend and a team leader in Empire Group's construction division. He had previously withheld Larry's wages and, leveraging his family background, became a team leader before even graduating from college. It was his men who had beaten up Larry before.
The head of security took a few steps forward and smiled, "Hey, Kevin. This guy came looking for a job and we've arranged for him to clean the toilets!"
"Cleaning toilets?"
Kevin laughed heartily. "Seems like getting beaten up yesterday wasn't enough for him. Now he's here to clean toilets!"
The others joined in the mocking laughter, filling the hall with a cheerful atmosphere.
Larry seemed unbothered and said calmly, "Kevin, aren't you worried that I'll report you? Embezzling workers' wages could get you audited by Empire Group."
"Report me?"
Kevin looked at Larry disdainfully. "I wouldn't do it if I was afraid. Try it if you dare!"
The head of security taunted, "You probably don't know that Kevin here is the cousin of the Empire Group's finance manager. Go ahead and try reporting him if you can."
Kevin gestured to the head of security, grinning, "Keep it low-key."
Though he said that, his expression couldn't be more smug.
Kevin whispered to the head of security, "I just got word from my cousin that the new president is coming for an inspection today. We need to prepare to make a good impression. Unimportant people should be cleared out first."
"Really?"
The head of security was surprised and quickly straightened his uniform.
He then ordered his men, "Take him to clean the toilets!"
Kevin added maliciously, "This trash loves that smell. Make sure he cleans it thoroughly!"
"Got it!"
The two security guards grabbed Larry by the arms and started dragging him towards the toilets.
Larry didn't resist, but calmly said to the guards, "Following their orders might be the most regrettable decision you make today."
"Stop bragging!"
One of the guards slapped the back of Larry's head.
Larry just snorted coldly and stayed silent.
As they were walking away, a group of people emerged from the elevator, consisting of Empire Group's senior executives. Leading them was a woman in professional attire, standing 5'6" tall, in black high heels and stockings. She was about 27 or 28 years old, attractive, and exuded both maturity and sensuality.
"Vice President Caroline!"
Seeing her, all the security guards and employees bowed and greeted her. She was Caroline, the current vice president of Empire Group!
Caroline glanced around and asked, "Have any of you seen Hermes?"
