Chapter 19 - Friendly Fire

I looked straight into the observer's eyes. Heh, the eyes immediately averted, and the observer began to run. The cloak this person was wearing is really something. They totally hid the sounds of their footsteps.

This person had already covered a distance of 200 meters, so I have to hurry too.

BANG!

There was a small 20-meter crater left behind after stomped my legs and began to run towards this person. This crater was 7 meters deep.

Hm. I think adding more stat points would be fun. Imagining a strength stat with 2000 stats point would be ridiculous but not impossible.

SWOOSH!

A pair of rusty daggers dropped by the slimes were slowly coming at my face. I just dodged them by lowering my head.

Before anything else could happen, I was already running besides the person.

I increased my speed by a little and grabbed the cloaked person's hand. Surprisingly, the cloaked person immediately vanished upon my touch, and there was only the cloak left in my hands.

It was a decoy?!

I sensed the area and heard some noise from the north-east direction. This voice was similar to the sound of constant running.

After putting the cloak in my inventory, I looked towards the direction where I could hear the steps from. The distance was barely a little 780 meters.

"Hehe! I'm going to catch you~"

BANG! BANG!

This time I used my full speed to dash, and it left a 48-meter wide crater that was 10 meters deep. I guess I have a very good perception, so It's easy to discern these details.

Completely turned into an air missile, I reached the cloaked person in a matter of seconds.

CRACK!

I tried to control my strength, but I think something broke when I grabbed the hand again.

AGH!

BANG! BANG!

The cloaked person didn't vanish this time, instead they banged into one of the black trees not far away from us.

Hm? I can still feel the sensation of something in my ha-

Shit! There's a hand in my hand?!

...

A few kilometers from Elias' direction.

A small city's entrance gate was full of commotion.

This city's walls were a 100-meter tall and there were various cracks on it. There were even some marks that had cracked from its top to the bottom, yet the wall stood strong.

These walls were 20 meters thick too and if looked upon closely, they were covered in a layer of dense blue color.

It was covering the whole city in the form of a blue dome.

At the entrance gate, there were people wearing all kinds of armor. There were people with different species too like lizardmen, elves, dwarves, fairies, and even half dragons.

In front of these people, an old man with his closed eyes was meditating. There were various scars on his muscular body. There was a black greatsword on his back which would usually shine with red and black lines of energy surging out from his body. He was only wearing a standard armor filled with scratch and cracks.

...

At the entrance of the Goblin dungeon.

"K-Kieeeek!" A screech resounded from the dark cave's entrance.

Even though the dungeon break had occurred, there were no monsters coming out of it.

*Rumble*

A rumbling of steps could be heard from the dungeon.

Suddenly-

A goblin rushed out on its four limbs with black splashes of gooey like substance all over its body. It was afraid and running for its life.

Before it could go any further from 10 meters from the entrance.

A skeleton hand with black and red lines pierced through the goblin's head, making it motionless. The body was dragged immediately to the cave.

The skeleton hand would occasionally kill and drag the goblins that had begun to run away from their own dwelling.

After a little more than ten minutes, the incident stopped, leaving the area in an eerie silence.

...

Back to the city.

The old man suddenly opened his pitch black eyes.

"Retreat." He sighed helplessly for some reason.

The people behind him were looking at him with shock, as if they heard it wrong.

"The dungeon is mutating higher from the S-rank." The old man turned back and looked at the people before he began to walk inside the gates.

The emotions on their faces suddenly became horrified.

"W-What?!"

"But the scout is still outside, Sir Hero!"

"Aren't we going to save the scout?!"

The old man heard the murmurs and screams behind him and stopped.

A blue doorway with various runes erected from the ground and shined with blue light.

He looked in front of him, where the bright blue doorway stood. He smiled and spoke softly, "Don't worry about the scout's safety.... and you don't need to call me by that title anymore."

The voice was soft yet every one of them could hear it crisp and clear.

He began to walk again and went inside the doorway disappearing along with it.

"WHAT?!"

"Sir Hero is retiring?!"

"Maybe Sir Hero found his successor?"

The last person's scream had ignited a spark of ambition in everyone's eyes.

They all stood silent in unplanned unity and began to scan their 'competitors' with scrutiny.

It was obvious yet no one planned to diverge deeper into this scene.

The city gate closed, and the city barrier shined with an unknown force surging within, making it slowly become transparent to the surroundings.
